So, on the subject of Legacy...Tancharoen has said in interviews that he's open to or inclined towards the idea of having someone other than Liu Kang win the tournament since we've already seen Liu's story in the original movie and he'd like to do something different.
My question is...who else fits winning the tournament?
Liu was the only one there whose entire storyarc was about defeating Shang Tsung and saving the world. Well, except Raiden, but if a god wins Mortal Kombat, it kinda makes the mortals look like chumps, doesn't it? It sorta changes the moral of the story.
But like, Scorpion seems to be Tancharoen's favorite for the role of "main character", but that dude only fights to get at Sub-Zero. What does he care about Shang Tsung or the fate of the world? Sonya and Jax are just after Kano, Johnny's only in it for the glory...I guess if he's adding Kung Lao to the story, he could work...
I'm just wondering, in terms of "thinking like a writer", concerning oneself with character arcs, development and payoffs, etc...who the hell other than Liu can you write as the winner of MK1 that fits their personality and serves the plot best?

Tancharoen REALLY,I mean,REALLY likes Kenshi. If Liu is not gonna win it,my money is on the blind swordsman. Especially considering,if Kenshi wants to avenge himself and get to Shang Tsung,he needs to do that by entering the tournament. Which kinda makes sense to me.
But we gotta understand that Kenshi could be stopped by Ermac, because Tancharoen retwitted the question of the fan asking if there will be a fight between Kenshi and Ermac. So there will be no time for Kenshi to deal with Shang Tsung yet.
But again, then I don't understand the POINT of Liu Kang in the tournament. He was always this "Chosen One". and his character has always been this Champion of MK.
I HONESTLY think that nothing will change storywise for Liu Kang. He will still beat the shit out of Shang Tsung and(?) Goro and become MK champion.
Goro will be in for sure, because Kevin asked long time ago if he should do him CGI or real makeup guy. But I have this gut feeling, that it won't be Liu Kang who will challenge Goro, but either Johnny Cage or Kung Lao.
I am still pissed there is no Reptile!

I find it to be very interesting that despite all odds, she was able to recognize Raiden as the god he is.
Furthermore, along with her name, she doesn't seem like an average human being. She seems special. I'd like to know more about who she is.
I must point out, regarding episode 6, Blue was released to the public before Raiden was, so that must count for something.

My best option is that Liu Kang wins MK1... but dies at Shang Tsung's hands. This wouldn't change the result of an Earthrealm victory, but for the next "games"/plots, we can choose a more likeable main protagonist.

It's too early to say if Tancharoen's version of Liu will be likeable or not, considering the way he changes things and the fact that there have been well developed and relateable versions of Liu in the past, i.e. Defenders of the Realm.
(Plus K-Tanch's take on Johnny Cage, who would normally be the most likeable main cast member, isn't goofy and lovable like in the games and first movie, he's just kinda bitter and dark.)

I think almost all of Liu Kang's portrayals have been likable (but maybe not so developed). He's determined to win the tournament and he understands that the fate of the world is at stake, but personality-wise he's still a mellow, relatively friendly (for the most part), peace-loving monk. Whether or not he is interesting in all of his portrayals is up for debate, bit I still think he was meant to win the first tournament.
Kenshi is definitely more of a selfish, loner type character. I'm sure he cares enough about his realm to fight in the tournament, but his real motivation for winning is to kill Shang Tsung. Liu Kang doesn't like Shang Tsung either, but his primary objective is not to get revenge; it's to save millions of lives by winning the tournament.
The only way I could see Raiden winning is if he takes on a full-blown mortal form like he did in his MK1 story, and even then, I think Raiden works better as the leader seeking a protege. Even as a Mortal, Raiden has been alive for thousands of years. He's got infinite wisdom and he's pretty much all-knowing. There would be no heroic journey for him, he's just win it and call it a day.
There is no way I could see Scorpion or Sub-Zero winning the tournament. Their stories are way more wrapped up in killing each other than even worrying about the fate of the realm. In Legacy, Scorpion isn't even fighting for EarthRealm and Sub-Zero is probably working as Shang Tsung's bodyguard. The same goes for Kano versus Sony, Jax and Stryker, and Kitana and Mileena are currently working for Outworld. If anytihng happens with them, it will probably be Kitana turning on Outworld and joining EarthRealm.
Johnny Cage would also never work. We know he's a powerful character, but to be honets, he's the comic relief. He didn't even know what he was getting into in MK1. If he ever becomes the main character, he'll need to gain some serious determination and basically throw out the whole cocky attitude that basically defines his character. Even then, that would be pushing it and it would risk ruining a great character.
So that leaves Kung Lao. Kung Lao. In earlier games, Kung Lao seemed like a more violent version of Liu Kang. Even his backstory was pretty much a copy-paste of Liu Kang's story. I don't like how the more recent games make him a Liu Kang wannabe though. If anything, it seems like he's in over his head and he'd throw himself into any dangerous situation just to prove he's as good as Liu Kang. If Kung Lao id the one who wins, they better get rid of the jealous little brother attitude.
Personally, I don't think anyone should replace Liu Kang as the MK1 champion. All the other characters would still get plenty of time to shine by fulfilling their own goals. Liu Kang was never really a spotlight character, even when he was the main character in the first few games.

I posted this in another thread too,but since it is about future MK,here it is:
Okay, maybe I am reaching here, but my dream of Celina Jade probably playing Kitana might actually become reality. She has all the looks of Edenian Princess (better than Sam Thjia in Legacy Season 1) and speaks perfect English, plus her father is Roy Horan, which automatically means she is martial artist. People who watched Legendary Assassin will know what I mean.

https://twitter.com/KTANCH/status/227470371010514945
Some guy actually flat out asked if she talked to Kevin about MK,she said "who knows what life will bring :)"

Now my attention for this project is tripled. Here is my hope for Katheryn Winnick play Sonya, and then I will die happy.

I loved Jeri (beautiful woman, talented actress, lovely and humble personality), but, I seriously hope he finds a more fitting and better Sonya for the role.
As great as Jeri was, we need a younger, sexier and a lot more athletic Sonya.
As for the story, I hope it follows the mystic and canon story of the games the way the first movie tried to do it. I don't want any more "free" episodes like Raiden's (as cool as it was) or anything close to the horrible first trailer (doctor Baraka).

Personally, I'm excited for another season of MK: Legacy as well as the MK movie. Even with flaws, I'm sure they'd still be superior to the crap we got in MK 2011's story. There are some things that I wish Kevin Tancharoen would take into account when doing the second season.
For one thing, it would be great to see the episodes be longer. I can understand that this is a web mini-series, and there's a certain budget involved, but I do want to see more. I hope he takes his time in telling the story instead of rushing anything. Another thing to note is the fight scenes. One big problem I had in the first season was that the slo-mo effects were overused. If they're going to be implemented, they should be implemented very sparingly.
Tancharoen has a lot of good ideas, and I think he has the right mindset regarding certain issues. I feel that while most of the characters were well-done, characters like Shao Kahn could have been done better. Being one of my favorite characters, he needed more menace to him. I still look back to Jeffrey Meek's fantastic performance in MK: Conquest, so I would love to see that level of acting for the character again.

Kahn shouldn't really appear if the season's about the tournament anyway, it should be The Shang Tsung Show at that point.
And really, if it's too late to completely redesign him, I'd much rather have no Kahn at all than see him depicted as some bland fuckin' normal guy with a Julius Caesar haircut again.

Sonya shouldn't look older than Jax. That is not realistic, that's bullshit. The only thing I liked about MK Annihilation was the actress they cast for Sonya(Sandra Hess, her name I think)...Pretty much how I imagine Sonya Blade throughout the games:athletic, strong and sexy as well But character-wise,she sucked, should have been much tougher, like Bridgette Wilson portrayed Sonya in the first movie.
My ideal choice is Katheryn WInnick, she has black belts in Tae Kwan Do and Karate (so she is very good with legs, how Sonya is supposed to be),and she is pretty decent actress as well,I mean, the movies that I watched with her. And plus, she is pretty beautiful.

How was Jeri Ryan not athletic and strong? And Sonya's sexiness comes from her strength and confidence. She was capture and injured in the first series so hopefully we'll see more ass kickery from her but Jeri Ryan is beyond a suitable Sonya.

I don't care if she is 16 or only 1 year younger than MJW,she still looks like she is in her 40s on the screen of MK Legacy, however in MK1 bio kard it is stated Sonya is 26.Doesn't reach the criteria. Have you seen all these wrinkles? Hell, even Kano, who is supposed to be 33 in MK tournament, looked younger than her.
Don't get me wrong,I love Jeri, especially her other movies, but she is not Sonya. Maybe she is your favorite actress,I dunno, but you gotta keep your mind open. Can't believe you don't see what I see.
