I meant that I would like to see a bad romance, as an answer to the question. I think the fans deserve to see this develop one day, once and for all.
(I admit, I was a bit vague on that!)

In the current timeline, they are both dead, so I guess it already is a bad romance in a way? :P

This is a demonstration of how it would work from now on as zombies.

Actually, that tradition was broken already in MK4. In Liu Kang's ending, Kitana shows up and offers him a place at her side as king of Edenia. She more or less proposes to him... and he says no. He would rather stay in Earthrealm than to be with Kitana.

There is no need to progress on their relationship, because Liu Kang ended it.

only for them to reunite later...
briefly but it happened none the less. besides thats the OG timeline, as of right now most of that is irrelevent.
now it appears the tradition has been fixed in MK9...from a certain view.
more things may yet change this new go around(yes them both being dead this early on is certainly a change but that wont last as im sure you know).
all this is to say that obviously this pair is here to stay(like it or not, i take it you do not), if its going to stay, it needs to progress into something a little more(IMO)... what better time to start than right now in the past?

Reunite? The next time they met, Liu Kang was a zombie. They didn't exactly reunite then.
Also, yes, that was the old timeline... but apparently, the MK Legacy follows the old timeline. Kitana and Mileena growing up together is kinda proof of that.

Ah right, forgot about the Spirit Liu. He freed her form Onaga's mind-control. However, there was no romance shown there at all.
I just hope there won't be a focus on some romance between them. Not in the games, not in the movie, not in the MK Legacy series. So I guess we jsut have to agree to disagree. ^^

that "relationship" has been almost 20 years running,
obviously by the recent game, its not 'dying' any time soon...HAHAHhaa, the irony.
but okay we can agree to disagree. had a nice CIVILIZED chat with you though, your the first one.

Kitana could still have feelings for him. Seeing the circumstances, it could be just because they are grateful that eachother is okay. There might still be a spark between them, but that doesn't have to mean their relationship will progress. Liu Kang turned her down, he's not interested in her like that, at least not enough to want to be with her and rule Edenia alongside her.
I don't find a fully fledged romance fitting in a game like Mortal Kombat. As long they keep it on the downlow and don't focus on it, I can accept it. MK is about tragedy, it's about blood and fore, it is about the fighting. If they tuned up the romance, it would go from being Blade to Twilight, to make a vampire movie metaphor. :P
I got the irony you stated there though. ;P
Am I really the first civilized chat you've had on here? I hope I wasn't disappointing then. XD
I doubt it was because he didnt WANT to be with her... as champion and a hero, you have a higher calling, its not just about YOU anymore, its about saving the people, protecting them against the vile villains they've come to know and hate. Liu knew this and he couldnt be selfish. as any noble hero should have reacted, he 'regretfully' said no to love due to something seemingly more important; being a hero, a choice one makes with their head...not their dick... ..hehea
ironically he dies during his next confrontation with the villian he came to know and hate...
so anyway
yes i would HATE to see mortal kombat turn into twilight...i HATE twilight!! and im not saying there needs to be a full fledged liutana romance( hugs, kisses and sex...oh my)right now, but one 'kiss' wouldnt hurt...right? hahahahaa
BUT at the same time from the kombatants point of view, i would hate to see them in constant battle too...(hey,that rhymes, hahaa)
its one thing as a fan to enjoy the blood, the gore, the fighting, but what if YOU were in thier position, what if you were Jade(and not in a character selection sense...
what do you suppose will happen once this time line reaches its armageddon point? it starts all over? would you really like that? for there to be a constant repitition of the story and the same chars to come back from the dead and appear back to back to back to back to where MK could eventually become 'Jaded'?...hahaha
no...they have lives too, its no fair for them to be in konstant battle just for OUR amusement...? thats just not fair!
its time we go into a new mk era one with freshmeat for the slaughterhouse jive. let the old ones DIE out...hehaha, perhaps live out the rest of thier lives peacefully or piece-fully, haha
wouldnt you like to see Jade living happily ever after, peacefully? or dying then coming back to life only to 'repeat til 'JADE'd" hehahahaa
P.S. yes you were the first and you didnt dissappoint :)
its just, some others on here are sooo KOLD. perhaps from the Sub Zero surroundings in here...hahahahahaa

Actually, no, I don't want a happy ending or a certain death for Jade or any of the other characters... except for maybe a few. If it all ended, one way or the other, that would mean no more Mortal Kombat. The strife must continue to keep the series going.
You dont think the series could survive with All NEW boils and ghouls(since thier going to die anyway)?
id hate to see the old crew go, but id hate it even more if they never experienced a violence free life they have yet to know...i mean, they have killed for it!
it wouldnt be nice to see it happen?...just for a minute, then about meh, another 500 years later, let a new batch of Krazy(with a K) kids come to camp Outworld? we'll still have the Violence, the gore, the fighting, the tragedy, it'll be just like old times man. just new faces thats all. new spines ripped out, new hearts pulled, new souls taken, new people taking an acid bath, new people to get over there, new rotten corpses to fuel your every bloody desire.
tell me thats not a Bad idea man? huh?

When MK Armageddon was released, I actually made a game pitch to how the next game could be like, storyline wise, and it had mostly a new cast of characters with a few returning ones.
What you say though is that there should be an era of peace. I don't mind that, however, I do not want MK to end happily or with everyone dead, because then the series would end. Only a few game series have successfully made a sequal with an all new roster. Street Fighter kinda did it with SF3, but it is still one of the less popular games of the series.

Only a few game series have successfully made a sequal with an all new roster. Street Fighter kinda did it with SF3, but it is still one of the less popular games of the series.
well how long do you want it to last man?
the pizza i just ate was VERY GOOD, MOST of the slices were good! i didnt want that to end but if i save it, eventually it will become stale and old, sure i could stick it in the Microwave and "reheat it" but it wont be as good as before, so i had to 'finish it', haha then "take a break' and get the next NEW Pizza ready since my hunger isnt quite satisfied, sure it may not be as good as the previous pizza but for the love of pizza thats the chance i have to take man, you cant expect every pizza to deliever...heheheha

I want it to last for as long as it can. Until MK becomes unpopular and the sales are so bad that there is no need to continue to make MK games. I want it to evolve though, the story should go on instead of making games about the same story over and over again. This is the fourth game that is about the MK1-MK3 era, but they made enough changes to make this different. Some good, some bad. Besides that we have movies, cartoons and comics telling this story as well. Then yeah, it can easily get stale and boring. That's why I want the story to continue and evolve and STOP going back to this same point.

oh i agree man, thats why i think we need a Resolution for the cast and the past stories, so we can 'kickstart' the Evolution...that means new chapter in the story and NEW BODIES!

Mortal Kombat already has ALOT of characters and with that ALOT of loose ends. Would be better if they tied up those ends first before moving on to whole new characters.

J-R, the reason Liu turned down Kitana's proposal in MK4 is because he didn't have much choice.
As the MK champion, it's his responsibility to stay on Earth and defend it the next time there's a tournament. It's a burden he carried. It's one of those stories where the Hero has to sacrifice personal happiness for the greater good.
