I too am a huge Kitana fan. She's my favorite character along with Mr. Subzero. This team will give you guys on the PSN such a headache!

Kitana is by far IMO the most intereting female, if not, character in Mortal Kombat. Her story is one of a kind and her specials are flawless. I love eveything about her.

Subzero has always been my favorite, he used to be my only favorite until I finally decided to admit to my self about Kitana. Anyways, Subby is fukin amazing, his story is also very interesting. I mean this guy controls Ice! How can you not like em!

Well I'm straight, but I would still like to put my input on characters.

Cyrax had always been my favorite since the first time I ever played as him back when I was a kid. If I had to choose a female character, which I hardly play with any of them; it would have to Mileena and that's just on the fact that she's evil, I like bad girls hahaha

Other than Cyrax I like Sektor, Reptile and Ermac, but this game has gotten me excited to play with alot of characters that I didn't give the time of day like Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Sonya, Jax, Stryker and Nightwolf.

Well, I'm straight despite having a female as a favorite, which according to your recent discoveries, may be where the rarity lies? And I don't have a boner for Sonya or anything (although if she were real, I would do things to her), I've just always found that hot females whooping someone's ass is a lot more entertaining than the generic "big, tough guy" doing it. That's why movies with a female lead killing a bunch of people are popular.

actually yes, I have seen some members post their sexuality on the forums. It's usually in context of what's being discussed, but I have noticed lol. Being a gaymer, stuff like that sticks out sometimes.

I see your favorite female is Sonya, who's your favorite male? EDIT: and in my experience, which isn't much, you are a rarity. I have never played with a straight guy who's main character was a female. Growing up, I actually got made fun of because I always chose Sonya in MK1, Kitana in MK2, Chun-li in SF2 *until I kicked their asses lol*. But that's just my personal experience.

Very popular observation. I've often just gotten lost in the story and boiled it down to "hot chick kicking ass", and enjoyed it for what it was.

Favorite Character: Kitana

When I first played MK2 I was already a fan of Street Fighter II. I played as several characters in SFII and only stood a chance playing as Chun-Li because of her speed. I soon realized that females were weaker, but much quicker so I gravitated toward the ladies from that point on. With only two females to select from in MK2, I selected Kitana because of her steel fans. It was totally new and cool (at 14, I was easily impressed). I actually never played MK3 and got back into Mortal Kombat when UMK3 was released to consoles. So at that time I went back to a character that was familiar to me and I've been a fan ever since. I think her story (best in the series in my opinion) is what kept me as her biggest fan through some of the let downs the MK team has given her in some games.

Favorite Male Character: Rain

I have a tendancy to root for underdog characters and Rain was definitely that in the circle of male ninjas. I'm also really into meterology, so I like how his moves were weather based. (likely why Storm is my favorite x-men character). He also tied into Kitana's story and was also from Edenia.

No- there was at least one thread where *tons* of gay folks were making their preferences known... don't remember what it is.
From my observances, having a Jade or Mileena avatar or sig means you're probably gay.

My favorite MK female is eternally Kitana (though I do love Mileena as well).
What can I say... I was in love from the moment I first drew like a gallon of blood with one of her fan throws!

My favorite is Raiden. He's badass and has the best head gear. I don't know how he'll play, but I'm sure he won't disappoint. I hope he uses his staff this time around like they were going to have him use in MK2. All I'm certain about is that he'll have his classic moves back, but I'm not sure about his Reverse Lightning.


His appearance in this game is decent. Not my favorite, but not the worst. Though it does have many similarities to my least favorite look for him (MK2). It is still a very classic, and badass design for him though. I hope to see his MK look as his DLC Retro Skin. From the description of his alternate costume, it sounds something along the lines of Dark Raiden. Something that pleases me greatly. The best part about it is that he'll have his lightning effects back in that costume.

Storywise, this is an interesting take for him to say the least, but certainly not the best. They really need to explain his ability to send messages back to himself. Is it only possible to do when he is on the brink of death? How come he's couldn't use it when his Champion was slain and things starting to go to hell. I think it's gimmicky as well.

My favorite female is chained up in Kahn's Coliseum, but no doubt she'll be DLC. By some she's considered a ninja, and to others, she's not.

Whenever they bring her back, I expect something similar to her default MK4 costume, and I hope to see the return of her MK4 alt costume as well.

Her moveset will remain intact, but I hope they change the fire to some other form of magic/energy. I'd like both of her MK4 fatalities to make their return also.

I had the same experiences (sorta explained it a little in what I just posted). I played a lot of video games with my older brother. He and his friends never played the females and would always kick my ass. I started using Chun-Li and kicked their asses because she was fast. Those were good times having him laugh at me for selecting her and then throwing the controller across the room in frustration after several straight losses :)

They didn't experience playing against that type of gameplay style (in human form). So I learned that speed was a major ally in taking down the powerful player. I think that's why I tend to still choose the ladies. Times have changed though, there are quick guy characters (Vega in SF) and slow powerful characters (R.Mika in SF). But in games I've played for years, my loyalty to them keeps me with the same characters I grew up with.

I have loved her ever since I seen her in MKT. I thought she was completely unique, and I also thought she was really good.

My favorite Male character is pretty much a three way tie between Rain, Stryker and Nightwolf.

I think Stryker was awesome because he is the morst human like character in the series and brings a sense of reality to the game. I like Nightwolf, mostly because of his gameplay. I am extremely good with him, and he is actually probably the best character, gameplay wise for me. And I actually hated Rain at first, but decided to play as him because my favorite color is purple. It took me a little bit, but eventually I became really good with him. I just hope that he gets his roundhouse kick back! lol

It seems that my favorite characters are the most underrated characters, and the most disliked characters in the first three games. lol

Interesting. I'm pretty much indisputably straight and my favorite character is Jade. Followed by Kitana. And I really don't have a preference for the male characters, since I don't play them very often. Also, I play the girls because they're hot. Still, interesting theory.

Gaymer here and yep I seem to always pick the girls in beat em ups.
I always used to think it was because they seemed more agile and acrobatic but the attraction could come from somewhere else?
Again (like others) I was teased for playing as the girls in any fighting game but when I whooped ass as miss Blade or Chun-Li my mates soon piped down.

I've always wondered why the gay community follows powerful women so much? You don't tend to hear of homosexuals having another gay man as a role model... it's always Kylie Minogue this or Sonya Blade that lol.

This is an interesting thread, I never stopped to think about wich characters would prefer a gaymer (to be fair I never stopped to think about wich characters would prefer a hetero girl, I always though that it deppended on if the characters had a good story and background more than on everyones sexuality), but for the responses here make me realize that Kitana is actually a gay idol.

I'm not a gaymer and my first preferences are men for most games (Sub-Zero followed by Kung lao for MK, Yoshimitsu for Tekken, Ryu for Street Fighter...) but usually on my top3 there is usually a girl like Sareena (I like her because I liked the relationship with Subby and also considered her to have the best looks of the MK females) or Anna Williams for Tekken and I know about some straight pleaople who have females as main characters.

I have found a very interesting fact on many fighting games: As programmers are usually male, they tend to give gameplay favoritism to the sexiest girls. Sometimes they aren't the best overall, but they tend to be the best for not experienced players as they give them a lot of easy ways to exploit combos.

Don't believe me? Play Dead Or Alive wich is probably the best example of this, I have only played it one day in my life, against the owner of the game who had experience. I fought him two times, each time I selected the girls with most cleavage I could find just for fun, and smashed buttons trying to do something logic as I haven't played before: It was a curbstomp on my favor.

In Tekken 6, Alisa and Lili are a pain when you play online because all players always do the same easy combos on you. You end up knowing how to avoid them, but even then sometimes they manage to exploit the combos, specially when your connection is as bad as mine U.U They aren's as good as the Mishimas used on expert hands, but they are very explotable. In MKA Sareena was one of the most popular characters because her proyectile was fast enough to be used on jugles and her specials were effective...

In my experience you can find straight gamers who play with female characters either because of how easy to combo-exploit they tend to be, or because they just consider them sexy or to have a good story.

But I never thoug about this other option of gaymers choosing some females as main characters and I wonder why most of you are choosing Kitana over other females, I never liked Kitana too much and always considered her boring or unappealing, and now I'm finding many Kitana fans are gaymers, wich is so interesting from your side about the character?

I'm a gaymer, and my favorite is not a female. It wasn't always so though. I used to use Sindel and Jade a lot back in MK3. I think because Sindel had a pretty easy combo that I used to abuse and she the had that cool hair that I may have wanted to play with... Anyway though I'd say Jade is in my top three faves behind Nightwolf and Ermac. And I can definitely remember using Sheeva a lot too.

So yeah, I definitely did and still do favor the ladies a lot more than the guys in general... as far characters go...

Nightwolf is my fave though. He's a good guy and very underrated. I can't wait to get a hold of him in MK9 because as in past games I'm sure he can be quite deadly with good timing.

Aaanyways, to the topic at hand.
I'm a proud MK gaymer, or rather, fighting game gaymer overall. SF, Blazblue, Tekken, Killer Instinct, Dead or Alive... I've played most of the fighting games out there. What I like about MK though is that it such an amazing storyline and is so rich on lore. It's not just "Here's a tournament, people enter and kill eachother, last man standing is the winner"... No, Mortal Kombat has enough lore to make an awesome RPG, and I've even once posted an idea of an MMORPG on these forums, but that's ages ago and can't be bothered to find the thread. :P

My favourite female character is Jade, and I have multiple times throughout thousands of threads stated why that is, so instead of making a huge rant, here's a link to a past thread I made about Jade when I first saw her newest render...

My favourite male MK character is Reiko. He wasn't always my fave though. I liked Rain and Sektor in MK3-MKT, but then MK4 came out... First of all, he had shurikens which I thought was just brilliant. I am a great fan of ninja-characters, but the traditional ninja-style, not the superhuman ones like Scorpion and Subbie. Though I won't count Reiko as a ninja, he did have the ninja-attire in maroon colours back in MK4, and the shurikens were a big plus for me. Also, his spin kick, the teleport grab and the quick twirl were really cool. Too bad he lost the quick twirl in MKA.

In MKA I REALLY fell for Reiko. His looks are simply awesome in MKA, looking brutal and sexy. wielding a great hammer and his new supermove, the Helmet Headbutt was really cool. His given fighting style in MKA isn't fitting at all though, but I always use the weapon style with him anyways, so it's alright. :P

I hope Reiko returns in the future games and with a more panned out storyline. For some reason, both Jade and Reiko's storylines aren't really explained. They are very mysterious characters with hidden pasts...
