Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Official Trailer
We Saw The First Ninja Turtles Footage -- And It Changes Their Origin [io9]
Alright. We've all heard the rumors. We've got the first trailer fresh off the stream - it's time to get this bad boy going. What are your thoughts?

I'm really looking forward to it, it stars Megan Foxx. Also the budget was $100 million, so I think it will be a good watch.

Budget means nothing. The Adventures of Pluto Nash had a budget of $100 million, yet got horrible reviews and is considered to be one of the biggest box office bombs of all time. (It only made $7 million worldwide.)
Honestly, while I think William Fitchner does a great job playing villains, I just can't get over the whitewashing of the Shredder into a caucasian character. The original Shredder's background was so thoroughly Japanese that casting a white actor means we'll be looking at a totally different backstory. It's not as if there aren't any good Japanese actors we could get to play a villainous role, after all...
Trailer is very, very generic. Like any other trailer for any modern action movie. Not very exciting.
Aside from that, I can accept Turtles being so big, but their faces are so ugly...It's hard to ruin a good design, but somehow Bay prevailed. Seems transforming certain robots into pile of random metal rubbish was not enough for him.

I don't understand all the complaints about them looking ugly. So everyone WANTS them to look attractive?
The only thing that really bothers me is how human they look, Mikey's eyes and mouth are very uncanny. That's the only thing that creeps me out.

That's what most people have problems with. Random clothes aside.
It's not about Turtles looking cute, but about them not looking repulsing, which is not the case with those designs.

This Shredder is apparently the adopted son of Oroku Saki.
That said, I'd like to remind everybody that the original TMNT film not only still holds up and didn't need to be remade, the Jim Henson-made animatronic turtle suits look better than the CGI in this movie.
So let's all just sit at home and watch that again on DVD instead of going to see this mess, shall we?

There are so many red flags in the trailer that it's fucking silly. It has a transformers vibe, but more than that, it reminds me of the Spiderman Reboot a lot. The mountain slope bit has Bay written all over it. I'm surprised there's no lingo for contrived-changes-in-scenery. That should be a thing by now.
I actually dig the new designs. Leonardo looked incredible. Not sure what the hell was on Donatello's back in the trailer, but I doubt he'll be lugging that around the whole movie. And as for the Michelangelo mask scene, I honestly have no problem with it, but I don't know why the hell they thought that would be good for the trailer.

Yup. Saw trailer today and i just don't know why there's yet another modern rip-of-an-old-idea CGI/action movie full of modern cliches. If this film wants to succeed it needs to stand out and be different from the rest, the trailer indicates none of this.

Not sure how I feel about this. I was huge TMNT fan growing up. On one hand I'm one of the few that did enjoy the Transformers movies and i probably will go and see this, as I have friends who are already planning on seeing it. I also do like the more serious tone of the movie, especially after how bad TMNT 3 was/
One the other hand, the move does feel generic and I'm not sure if the design chooses are going to work out.
I think despite them changing Shredder's nationality, I think a more serious tone could help him in the movies. On the other hand, I also think Danny Woodburn is a horrible choice to play Splinter as well.
It almost feels like the movie is taking 1 step forward and two steps backwards, based on the trailer.
I also managed to get a couple of screen grabs:
Shredder:
Leonardo:

All I could think was that it was a Proton Pack and they were going to bust some ghosts.
My real guess is that it's something to contain mutagen which leaked out somehow making super Foot soldiers. Pure speculation.

I'd argue it's both because they also look more real on account of being an actual practical effect.
The Bay Turtles look kinda Phantom Menace-y. I know it's just a trailer and they'll add polish over time, but they don't exactly scream "This is what we can accomplish in 2014, look at how far technology has come." I suspect the special effects industry has kinda plateaued on rendering things that have soft skin and curved features as opposed to robots with metallic textures and flat surfaces.

I know that Bay's only producing this movie, but man does it ever look like a "Michael Bay movie" and everything that implies. I don't watch a lot of cartoons (though more power to you if you do), but I really enjoy the new TMNT cartoon. I'd much rather see a film from those writers than anything Bay's attached to, but who knows, maybe he'll prove me wrong?

I definitely hope it's something scene-specific, but I was looking at some of the other scenes in the trailer... I don't know, it's hard to say, but it looks like that same proton pack/xbox thing on his back is in the snow hill scene as well. It's not going ruin the movie for me, but Donatello is my favorite character. I don't want him to have ugly bullshit on his back the whole film.
Though now that I know Jonathan Liebesman, my expectations for this movie sunk even lower (which I didn't even think could be possible).
