what??? this thread is actually good man, compared to all the shit that has been being posted for the last 5 months, theres a lot of people here who like the Godzilla franchise and want to talk about the new movie, so i dont see nothing bad about it... this farrrrrrr from being the worst thread ever, hell its far from being a bad thread period...

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it pointless. I'm not a huge fan of Godzilla either but I find it interesting to read what other people think about that do really like it. I would much rather read about somebody that is excited about a new movie coming out than alot of other crap that has been on here lately. By far, this is not pointless.

All the Godzilla movies, some have been bad, some good, however only 1 was unwatchable.

There are a few corny ones from the 70's that are bad, but that's part of what makes them good. I will watch them anytime.

The one with Matthew Brodrick, however, sucked big time.

Personally, i find Godzilla a little dorky.
But if the new movie is any good, i might give it a chance.

ok here is a hell of a lot of info for those who have questions and for those who dont know much about the film! enjoy..............

1.Who is directing the film?

Ryuhei Kitamura, who recently directed the hit period film, Azumi, and in the past directed Aragami, Alive and Versus.

2.Who will be in charge of the special effects?

It has been announced that Eiichi Asada will be the special effects advisor. He was previously the special effects advisor for last year’s GMMG.

3.Who will be doing the suits for the film?

It has strongly been implied (although not officially confirmed) that Shinichi Wakasa will be doing the suits for the film. Wakasa has been responsible for creating the suits for the Millennium series.

4.Who will be the cinematographer?

The cinematographer will be Takami Furuya, who has worked with Kitamura on Versus, Alive and Azumi.

5.Who wrote the story and screenplay?

An original storyline for the film’s first draft was prepared by G2K scribe Wataru Mimura and Shogo Tomiyama. However, Isao Kiriyama, who worked as a writer on Alive and Azumi, has worked on it from then on with Kitamura himself.

6.Who is the action director?

According to Kitamura in an interview with the Midnight Eye, the action director for GFW will be Tak Sakaguchi. He has previously appeared in Versus and is described by Kitamura as,” a streetfighter. He fought with a bear once and won. Otherwise, he would be dead now, of course (laughs). He fought a crocodile, he even fought a bull (laughs). He's a real fighter. He's just like he is in Versus, he's a crazy guy, but I love him.” The decision to bring him in was a desire to “bring some new blood to that (Godzilla) series.”

7.How is overseas shooting being handled?

The overseas shooting is being handled by a second unit director. The name of this director is Ryuichi Takatsu. Kitamura describes him as his “best friend –he went to Australia with me when I was 17 and he is now the second unit director on Godzilla, shooting the overseas sequences.”

8.Who is scoring the film? Will Akria Ifukube do it?

There has been no indication of who will be scoring the film. Akira Ifukube, although he is the musical father of the series, will most likely be unable to do so due to his advanced age and health. It is more than likely that some of his music in one form or another will be in the film.

9.Who is doing the conceptual designs for the monsters?

The conceptual designs are being done by Yoji Shinkawa, who is responsible for some of the amazing mechanical designs for the Metal Gear Solid series (it would not be a stretch of the imagination to see him working on the design for Atragon). At the very least, Terada Katsuya (who has worked on Blood: The Last Vampira) has handled the design of Monster X.

10.Who is overseeing the design team?
Shinji Nishikawa is overseeing the design team

11.Who will be designing the opening credit sequence?
The opening credit sequence will be created by Kyle Cooper.

12.What has Mr. Cooper worked on prior to "Godzilla: Final Wars"?
His previous work includes films such as "Se7ev" and "Spider-Man", as well as the "Metal Gear Solid 2" videogame.

13.Who will play the leads in GFW?

The main male lead will be played by 27-year-old Masuiro Matsuoka of the band TOKIO and the female lead will be played by 26-year-old idol/model Rei Kikukawa.

14.Who will Matsuoka play?

Matsuoka will play the role of soldier Shinichi Ozaki, a man with a superhuman body and is in charge of gunning operations on the Earth Defense Forces' Main Battleship.

15.Who will Kikukawa play?

She will play Miyuki Otonashi, a molecular biologist who studies these monsters at the sub-atomic level.

16.Who will Akira Takarada play?

The legendary Akira Takarada will play the United Nations Secretary General Naotarou Daigo, a man whose plane disappears during the monsters’ attack and later reappears with the aliens and suggests an alliance with them.

17.Who are playing some of the aliens from Planet X?

According to a late addition from Monster Zero board member John Cassidy, Kazuki Kitamura who has previously played one of the Crazy 88s from Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol. 1 will play an alien from Planet X.

18.s this Kitamura related to the director?

Good question. I have absolutely no idea, but will try and find out more information.

19.Who are the suit actors in the film?
Tsutomu Kitagawa will once again don the Godzilla suit, having previously played the part in "Godzilla 2000", "Godzilla vs. Megaguirus", "Godzilla against Mechagodzilla" and "Godzilla: Tokyo SOS". King Ceasar and Monster X will both be played by Motokuni Nakagawa, who previously took on the role of Kiryu (Mechagodzilla) in last year's "Godzilla: Tokyo SOS". Angilas, Hedorah and Ebirah will all be played by Toshihiro Ogura, while Rodan and Minya will be played by Naoko Kamio, both of whom are new comers to the Godzilla series.

No news has been released on Gigan, Mothra, Manda, Kumonga or Kamacuras, although one would assume many of these would be implimented with pure puppetery.

20.Why are there only 4 suit actors playing 8 monsters?
This is most likely due budget limitations. Since actors are paid flat-rate in Japan, paying 4 actors to play 4 monsters will cost the same as paying 4 actors to play 8 monsters. This way Toho can put the extra money (4 actors wages) towards other things, such as visual effects.

21.Does this mean we won't see all the monsters together?
While we may not see all the monsters fighting with one another, it's always possible that through CGI and blue/green screen that we may see them on-screen together.

22.Will there be any celebrity cameos?

At the moment, the only name being tossed around is that of Hideki Matsui, outfielder from the New York Yankees who has previously had a cameo in Godzilla X Mechagodzilla.

23.Who are some of the veteran Godzilla actors scheduled to appear in GFW?

Will there be any veteran Godzilla actors/actresses in the film?
Yes, Kumi Mizuno and Kenji Sahara will be both making appearances in the film. Ms. Mizuno is perhaps most remembered for her role as Miss. Namikawa in "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero". She has also appeared in such Toho classics as "Frankenstein Conquers the World", "Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster", and 2002's "Godzilla x Mechagodzilla". Mr. Sahara has also appeared in many Toho science fiction films, including "Son of Godzilla", "Destroy All Monsters", "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla", and as the Prime Minister in several of the Heisei (1984-1995) Godzilla movies.

24.Will a manga artist create a magna version of the script?

Although this has been done in the past with Godzilla films and is likely to be done in some form for GFW, there is at this time no published information about who would be doing this and to what extent.

25.What purpose would a magna version of the script serve?

The purpose of it would be to act as a massive storyboard for the film to help pre-plan certain shots ahead of time and to allow the director to see how well the film and story will flow or whether corrections might be needed.

26.Will there be any foreign actors in the film?
Yes, American martial arts fighter Don Frye is scheduled to have a large role in the film.

27.Who is Don Frye?
Don Frye, also known as "The Predator", is a professional heavyweight American fighter, and an expert in mixed martials arts. As a life long Godzilla fan, Don expressed "finally my dream comes true".

28.What role will Don Frye play in the film?
Don Frye will play a character called Douglas Gordon, Colonel of the Earth Defence Force and captain of the warship Atragon.

29.How many monsters will be in the film?

According to published reports, at a bare minimum there will be ten monsters and, at most, around sixteen. At the moment according to Toho's website there are 13 monsters not including Godzilla.

30.What is the new monster list?

The new monster list that was posted on Toho’s website (and uses their spellings) is Gigan, Rodan, Minilla, Mothra (adult form), Kamacuras, Kumonga, Manda, Ebirah, Anguirus, King Caesar, Hedorah, and Monster X. Although this list in some ways contradicts the previously reported list by the omission of Gorosaurus and King Ghidorah and the inclusion of Hedorah, it should not be seen as surprising, since the film was most likely still in pre-production at the time the designs were observed. In addition, the removal of a monster was not an unlikely event or it could be that the two monsters will appear in the movie, but are not being listed at this time.

31.Who or what will Monster X be?

A design sketch of Monster X has been released and is available at Monster Zero. The monster appears to resemble mixtures of the Predator, Alien, and a Balrog. Granted, this is only my point of view and may not be entirely accurate.

32.Where will the monsters attack?

A tentative list includes New York, Shanghai, Paris, and Sydney.

33.Have there been any specific sites to be destroyed in GFW that have been mentioned yet?

According to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge are supposedly going to be destroyed, but there has been no confirmation as of yet.

34.Was the title always Godzilla Final Wars?

No, the film was originally announced with the tentative English title of “THE GODZILLA.”

35.What will be the origin of most of the monsters in GFW?

Many monsters besides Godzilla will be born from nuclear testing.

36.What is the setting for the story?

In the near future, monstrous beasts begin to appear where war and nuclear tests have occurred, due to hasty advances in science. Due to these appearances, the countries of the world lend their hands to organize the Earth Defense Forces -- with their greatest enemy being Godzilla. Until one day, when the mummified corpse of an unknown creature is discovered off the coast of the northern island of Hokkaido.

37.What is the plot of the story?

This is copied from Monster Zero (which was translated by Piro) with some slight tidying of the grammar and punctuation by my editor:

Repeated wars and nuclear tests... too advanced science breaks the earth's environment and wakes up the sleeping giant Kaijus. The era of humans fight against each other is over, and the new era of humans fight against the menace of Kaijus has begun—the "Earth Defense Force" was born. In the past few years, the existence of "mutants,” super humans who have special powers, have been found all over the world. The “Earth Defense Force” organizes an anti-Kaiju squad against the mutants. They call the squad "M kikan (M-Force)."
In 20XX, a mummy of a giant Kaiju is found in the north sea of Hokkaido. Shinichi Ozaki, a mutant soldier of the M-Force, investigates the mummy with Miyuki Otonashi, who is a biologist sent from the UN.
At that time, Kaijus appear in cities all over the world simultaneously! New York, Paris, Shanghai, Sydney—Kaijus appear one after another!
The “Earth Defense Force” uses the full war potential, but they can only fight defensively because of too many Kaijus.
Among the worldwide confusion, the airplane of Secretary General of the UN Naotarou Daigo disappears.
The “Earth Defense Force” fights desperately, but cannot defeat the Kaijus. Ozaki, who arrives on the sight of a Kaiju arrival, strives to fight against the kaiju with another mutant soldier, Kazama, by using their super physical powers.
Among the intense battles all over the world, UFOs suddenly appear in the sky and eliminate the kaijus. UFOs are concentrated above the base camp of the “Earth Defense Force” in Japan, and Daigo, the missing Secretary General of the UN, appears from the UFOs. He suggests peacefully terms with the aliens that introduce themselves as "X-seijin(X-Aliens)." The heads of the world decide to form an alliance with the X-Aliens.
However, Ozaki and Miyuki have doubts about the X-Aliens and research their nature with Miyuki's older sister, Anna. While researching, they ask for assistance from the captain of "Kaitei Gunkan Gouten-gou (Atragon)." Now the final wars of Ozaki and his companions on the Atragon begin!
Godzilla continues to sleep in the ice of South Pole during this time

37.Will there be any special attack craft in the film?

Yes, and the best part about this is that it appears that it will be a classic Toho one. According to numerous translations of the story that have appeared on Toho’s website, the one and only Atragon will return. It is not known at this time whether Atragon will resemble its famous form or the semi-later spaceship Goten in The War in Space. It is known, however, that it will appear as an Earth weapon. It is referred to in the story description as Kaitei Gunkan Gouten-gou (translation by Piro).

38.Will there be Aliens in the film?

Yes, the plot description also mentions the existence of aliens from Planet X that will play a large part in the story. It is unknown at this time whether these are the same aliens from Monster Zero. However, they are referred to in the story as "X-seijin (X-Aliens)" (translated by Piro).

39.Who are these mutant soldiers?

The plot also mentions the existence of what are known as mutant soldiers. They are described as, “from a few years ago, the existence of ‘mutants,’ super humans who have special powers, were confirmed all over the world. The earth defense force organized an anti-Kaiju squad with the mutants. They called the squad "M kikan (M-Force)" (translation by Piro). They seem to resemble the X-Men, although this is purely speculation on my part and should not be assumed to be true.

40.When will the film open in Japan?

The film’s release date has been pushed up to December 4th from its previous date of December 11th.

41.What will the budget be for this film and is it any different from the previous Godzilla films?

The budget for this film is being set at 4 billion yen (which is approximately $35,806,457.94 according to xe.com as of May 26, 2004). The previous Godzilla budgets were only around half this, or at 2 billion yen (which is approximately $17,903,924.28, according to xe.com as of May 26, 2004). This number, however, is probably severely inflated, as it has been rumored that the last Godzilla film had a budget of maybe only half of that. One plus side of this is that in Japan unions and stars do not command such high wages as they do in the United States, so more of this budget will wind up going directly towards the movie itself.

42.Will this be the last Godzilla film?

Most likely not, despite aspiring to be “the final film for the generation,” as Shogo Tomiyama has said. He has also stated that it will be the last film for perhaps five to ten years. It seems unlikely that it will be the last; it may perhaps only herald a small rest in for the series.

43.Will the film be teamed up with Hamtaro?

No, Toho has decided to not team GFW up with Hamtaro, as it has done for the previous three Godzilla films.

44.What is the target date for completion?

According to the press conference, the film is set for completion at the middle of November.

45.Will the film be ready in time for the Tokyo International Film Festival?

No, Shogo Tomiyama has given the film extra time, since supposedly some shooting may continue into November (this may be location shooting). This will be the first film since Godzilla vs King Ghidora to not premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival.

46.Will the monsters have their traditional designs?

No, supposedly all the monsters will have revamped designs.

47.Will all the monsters be suit-mation or will some be CGI?

According to an inside source no monster will exist purely as CGI.

48.How strong will Godzilla be in the film?

Kitamura has stated that he wants to have a Godzilla that can defeat a foe with one blow.

493Can I be an extra in the film?

Sort of. Toho has only posted applications for extras in Japan, much to the dismay of overseas fans. Australia may be the best chance, since it has been speculated that numerous scenes that appear to take place overseas will actually have the acting component of them shot in Australia.

50.Are scenes with 'fleeing extras' being shot?

Yes, such scenes are supposidly being shot in several different countries around the world.

51.Which countries does this include?

Presently known countries include Japan, Australia and China.

52.What is the number of people that Toho is aiming for to view the GFW?

Toho has stated at their May 25, 2004 press conference that they are aiming at having over 4 million people view this film worldwide.

53.Will the film premiere outside of Japan?

Although Toho spoke of the desire to have the film premiere outside of Japan, there have yet been no confirmed details for this plan.

I54.'ve heard the film will be rated "R", is this true?

No. A film cannot be rated until it has been completed and reviewed by a board of film classification. Since the film is still in production, it's impossible for it to have already been rated.

55.I heard there is going to be foul language in the film, is this true?

An unconfirmed report states that a scene recently shot in Sydney, representing New York, involved a police officer and a pimp who frequently used the "F" word while arguing with each other. If such a scene should exist in the film, it will undoubtedly be re-dubbed to remove the foul language for American audiences when released in the U.S.

Godzilla Rules Baby!!!
I'm still waiting for Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla II to be released on DVD in the USA. I'm looking forward to the GFW movie, and especially Godzilla: Save The Earth video game. Looks to be way better than Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee. Here's to the big G. Congrats on the first fifty years....here's to another fifty!!

The 1954 original Gojira is still one of the greatest and most symbolic movies ever, no matter how outdated the effects are.

Since then, some of the films have been good (Mothra vs. Godzilla, Ghidrah:TTHM, Detroy All Monsters, Godzilla vs. Destroyah, and GMK) an some have been wy too corny (GvsMegalon, Gvs.Gigan, GvsSpaceGodzilla), but there is no character in the world with the history and reputation greater than Godzilla.

Yes, GFW should be great. I have both Azumi and Versus, and while Versus is a bit wierd, Azumi is one of the greatest films I have watched. So, I definitely have faith in Kitamura.

Oh, and for those of you hoping to see Ghidorah, it was confirmed that Monster X is going to turn into the most powerful Ghidorah of all: KaiserGhidorah!

As for the costumes, Gigan and Rodan look great. As does Monster X, Ebirah, Kamacuras, Hedrah, and Rodan. Godzilla looks ok, but I hoped he looked either like he did in 1954 or they gave him a more evil, sinister look. More menacing. I'm dissappointed with Angilas, he looked much more fierce in 1955 and the 60's. Kumonga is dull and Seesar looks more or less the same to me. And Minya should just die.

Finally, no matterwhat the outcome and fate of all the monsters, 2004 is definitely the year of the Godzilla.
