Right here is where the end gon' start at... Konflict, kontact 'n' kombat
I must say, it's not hugely bothering me about the Joker's fatality, even though I thought it was all good, but I have a suggestion. If firing at the head is the bad idea, then I have a viable suggestion for an edit, one that they won't have to censor.
Hopefully, you guys here have watched the Batman Beyond movie Return of the Joker. Assuming you've seen the unedited and uncut version, then you already know what I mean by the change that the game here can implement.
The first time it happens is in the current time, when the Joker offs Bonk, one of them from that Jokerz gang, who was complaining about things not going their way, specifically why they weren't rich with MONEY yet.

The second instance is when Barbara (former Batgirl) as the new Commissioner Gordon flashes back and tells Terry what happened with the Joker all those years ago, in that The New Batman Adventures timeline. Here is the footage of that flashback:

It means that Midway will have to change the gun graphic to a compact spear gun in order to get it to work, but that IS doable, right?
Pointing at the head, pulling the trigger and the BANG! flag comes out, the Joker hangs onto the gun as he laughs, and when the other person is turning back around, the Joker has the spear gun back up but pointing at the chest, and then actually fires the spear that the flag is attached to at the other person, killing him or her.
Though it is not just like firing a bullet into somebody's head, I defy you guys to TELL ME that you don't think this is good enough for a replacement, one that needs no censoring.

Makes me scared to wonder what else is going to be cut. You know what, The MK guys should NEVER have compromised. The folks over at DC KNOW what kind of game MK is. I don't think they should have any right to change anything that is normally done in an MK game. If they didn't want their characters killed and/or mutilated.. then they should never have decided to do a game that crossed over with MK.
This sucks. Period.
Toned down? ... they completely axed the best part (and I'm sorry, having it happen off screen doesn't count!)

QFT.
Fuck the T rating. I want Mortal Kombat back the way it was meant to be. Midway, don't do this shit after MK vs DC, for your own sake. No more T rated crossovers.
you know what? FUCK this game.

I called it. From the very beginning, I warned everyone that the backbone of the MK series was gonna get the biggest kick in the teeth. Don't expect any good fatals, cuz you won't see any with this game.
The whole T-rating nonsense is mostly DC, but it slaps the MK franchise in the face. No one can sit here and tell me they'd have had any interest in Mortal Kombat when it came out 15 years ago if it didn't have fatalities and blood. I love MK and MK2, but had it not been for the blood and fatality to draw us in, then for me and most other fans who were around back then (and not this newfangled generation of kiddies who never knew MK existed before DA), the only amount of money that Midway would have ever made off of me with the MK franchise would be 25 cents (I think arcade games were still 25 cents when MK came out). This is only the beginning of the cut downs...I expect we'll be hearing about more drastic cuts in the next few weeks leading up to release. Don't be surprised if blood goes missing too.
They want to rectify this? Make the more violent fatals DLC...this way the game can retain a T-rating, and the only thing that will potentially cause it to go 'M' would be a purchase that you have to verify d.o.b. Problem solved.
DCU: We're hearing so many stories of how this game came about, some say you guys came to MK and some say MK came to you guys. The point is you know what kind of game MK is and you know what it is known for. If you didn't want your characters getting brutal than you shouldn't have did a MK VS DCU game, you should've went to capcom or somewhere else. Its kinda like the producers of "friday the 13th" asking disney if they wanna do a Jason Vs. Hannah Montanna movie and disney agrees but then starts complaining about the violence in the film. See how dumb that sounds?
MIDWAY: You should have NEVER sold out. What you should have said was "Ok look, we can't make any promises about that T rating but we will cut back on blood and give DC heroes finishing moves that won't kill the opponent but thats the best we will be able to do. In our eyes a MK game without brutal fatals isen't a MK game" and then if DC would have backed out then oh well. It just pains me to see Midway stooping down to this level. They need to just cut finishing moves out all together, save us the pain and the humiliation MK team.
All in all, MKVSDCU has great potential but maybe only as a comic book series or a graphic novel. I really don't see why DCU is making such a big deal over their characters killing, I mean mostly MK fans will buy this dumb game any way and plus with "the dark knight" you would think they would embrace making the characters dark. Anyway, I believe that if this was MK VS. X-Men then Marvel would probably be creating fatals for the game themselves, lol. Marvel is a lot more laxed than DC.
I mean, you all knew this was DC. Where is all this shocking reaction coming from?
I do agree DC should have just allowed the M Rating as long as the fatalities, etc weren't too violent.
I mean, Joker's fatalities were nothing!!! But I guess they want this to look good even for people who carry DC lunchboxes.
I'll repeat the sentiments that I have done so elsewhere, however; it is very disappointing that they had to scale back the Fatality, but then again, this isn't 1991; complaining about lack of gore in a Mortal Kombat went out of style when Nintendo allowed an uncensored version of Mortal Kombat II to release on the Super NES. Yes, the Fatality is one of the major reasons the series gained popularity, but if anybody's followed a video game series, sometimes it's for the best to eschew or tweak key elements.
Is anybody really surprised by this?

Understood, but... I wonder what all those people thought when Joker pulled the shit he did in The Killing Joke? DC has had some moments that were much more violent than Joker's head shot fatality. Besides, in the original fatality, it's not like you saw Kitana's face get blown off. Or a huge gaping hole in her forehead. There was a bit of blood and she fell over. It was actually kinda tame (well, for MK anyway.) There's no way that particular fatality should have earned an M-rating. There are plenty of T rated games out there where things happen that are equal (or worse) to that. And some of the stuff in comics actually surpass it by quite a bit. So this is more a case of, IMO, "We'll do what we want with our characters, but YOU do what we say. Period."
The gameplay is looking very tight in the latest videos, and I can't wait. The fighting system got an overhaul, which it sorely needed. Only thing I am worried about is having to use a 360 dpad.
If any of you think that fatalities are the best part of Mortal Kombat, then you aren't in it for the game itself. Go back to masturbating while watching Faces of Death or something.

Actually, while Fatalities aren't the end-all-be-all of the franchise, they have been a VERY important part of the franchise since the day the series was created. MK was just another fighter.... until Sub-Zero ripped his opponents head off. I'm sure most people were too young to remember it, but I remember the crowds that gathered in the arcades when MK1 was released and someone did that, and I remember how cool it was when they went "woah cool!" "Do it again!" "That was awesome!"
That had nothing to do with gameplay. Nothing to do with special moves. It had everything to do with shocking and wowing the crowd like no game before it.
Fatalities became a trademark of the franchise, outraged parents across the nation, and helped usher in the creation of the ESRB.
Fatalities alone did that.
So, while Fatalities aren't all that's apart of an MK game, they're an ESSENTIAL part of it regardless. The rest of MK vs DCU looks very much like the same combat engine I've seen before, with the same moves, same animations, and same specials I've come to expect over and over, so I'm not interested in what I'm sure will be a decent but underwhelming combat engine.
Fatalities need to return, full force, and make me say "wow" again. Joker's fatality did that, and now it's gone. Regardless of the gameplay, that hurts the overall game experience.

Nintendo is comprised of three Japanese words. Nin, Ten, Dou, and when combined it means we kicked the holy shit outta Atari.
All without M-rated violence. See? It's not all bad.
This is great news. Maybe now we'll get to see Luthor have a quality finishing move.

Yes.
See? You don't need an M rating to have good finishing moves. You just need some imagination and a decent sense of humor.

Besides , I knew this game would be shit from the start .
Edit : I mean WTF ?!?!? I have a shooting game called " Syphon Filter " for Playstation 1 , and you can shoot people in the head ( It even says head shot when you aim at head I think too . ) , yet in this game it's considered gruesome or some lame answer to defend themselves ?
Great job Midway , DC Universe , and ESRB . You actually hyped people for once with that fatality from Joker and now you take it away . Look at the many people at Kotaku , MKO , and other places that are complaining which includes trashing this game .
