BustaUppa, here is what I think about your latest post :
BU : a gamepad forces you to do everything with one thumb. With a keyboard your whole hand is free
when youre playing on arcade cabinets, you have one hand on the stick and the other hand for 6 buttons(run, block, hp, hk, lk, lp), that is 5 fingers for 6 buttons. When youre using a controller, in addition to have the opportunity to choose the setting that suits you the best, you can obtain (for instance with a psx2 pad) the following one : the thumb of the left hand for the directional buttons, the index of the left hand for 2 buttons, the index of the right hand for 2 buttons, and the thumb of the right hand for 2 buttons...in that way you have 1 finger for 2 buttons, and you dont have to do everything with only one thumb anymore. The important thing is about picking the setting that suits you the best. anyway, the whole hand is free is not an advantage for umk3 since none movements require to hold 3 buttons or more at the same time, so your 5 fingers wont do anything more or anything better than what your 2 thumbs and your 2 index can already do, moreover the keyboard is definitely not convenient for doing diagonals, gamepads and arcade sticks can make continue moves like f, f-d, d or b, b-d, d, f-d, f much easier than the keyboard.
BU : and you can leave your thumb on the run button if you like (and of course, any move that requires you to hold a button down become MUCH easier).
as far as the pads are concerned , you can leave your finger on the run button too, no? (even your thumb or the finger you wish in fact , it all depends on your personal setting). About the moves that require to hold a button down, its not easier with the keyboard since you can assign the buttons you wish on the side of the pad, and I can tell you its quite easy to hold a side-placed button while youre playing. Moreover you can assign until 4 side buttons on psx pads (the L1,L2,R1,R2 buttons), so youre completely safe about that.
BU : In this way, using a keyboard is actually VERY similar to playing with the arcade controllers that the game was designed for.
The only common point of the keyboard and of the arcade sticks is that all the buttons are placed on the same surface. But the directional moves on pad are much more like the directional moves on the arcade stick than like those with keyboard. And it does a big difference about KB and arcade controllers.
BU : But the reality is that on a gamepad you have to adjust to radically different hand movements, which deviate from the way the game was originally intended to be played.
well in all cases about the directional moves definitely not, because all the moves you do with your wrist on the arcade cabinets, you just do them with your thumb on pads. Moreover if the creators of MK had thought that pads are inappropriated to play at their games, they would have released some kind of special pad for it, believe me...what can bring much money is done, but the truth is psx2 pad fit perfectly umk3 (unlike for instance the racing games or the simulations, where a pad is useless compared to a wheel).

Hey you can add me to the list my name is d87 or dragonj87 on there, you've played with me a lot. My AIM is SKYESLICE.
There's also some other good people like Ninja, night of the living zit, Axem Glitch or whoever, that I play with a lot.
Everyone should play on Godweapon, it is the best kaillera server. I'm still a noob, but Shock is helping me get better. I'll play any kind of game: MK1, MK2, MK3, UMK3. I just don't have MK4 and MKT though.

AIM BustaUppa if you're up for some Kaillera (after 6 PM Eastern... can't slack off THAT much while I'm at work)

Hey that reminds me... who on this thread plays MKT on Kaillera (with ePSXe)? PM / AIM me if you're interested, or if you need help setting up. I haven't had much time to play lately, but I could at least help set someone up if they were wondering how to get started.

I can do, but I haven't yet. When I tried to play Twisted Metal 2 through epsxe on mame it didn't work But I would like to play some MKT sometime, though I'm not gonna sit there with an MKT game open waiting for a challenger - I'd be there all day
So maybe one day we can set something up through AIM...

Kaillera.com has been down for quite some time, I don't know if and when it will ever be back, but as long as that is down, the server list will be as well. You'll have to ask people who play for server IPs as you go.

I just uploaded 4 tournament match vids of me vs Konqrr. There awesome Ermac playing in the first match, I get two pretty hot combos, and in the second match there is some nice Subbery by Konqrr keeping my Reptile in check not letting me zone.
Also, all the matches have been renamed so it's easier to tell what's what.

awesome quick thinking Sub-zero corner combo on Ermac tonight, HP, freeze SUJK, RH, HK 4 hits 50% = hot.
I got one decent Reptile combo, I think it was FB, HP,HP, FB, HP, HP, dash, HP,HP, dash, uppercut for 9 hits 45%
Lag was pretty bad, of course not in my preferred server.

Hey, is there championships for the Kaillera matches, like one undefeated player becomes "Flawless Warrior"? Also, I play MKII and UMK3, although I'm not very good. If it's free (THE kaillera gaming), then IM me with that fact and your challenge.

It's a nice idea, but I don't know how we could keep track of it faithfully.
we can keep a reliable track of kaillera matches if one (or both) of the 2 players record them. The INP file shows in the properties the date of creation, so it will be easy to check if this is the right file for the concerned matches, on the condition that each set of matches on kaillera is indicated here before, in a special thread for example, where people would see when, between who and where the matches happen....

It would be a lot easier if Kaillera could check wins and losses as you play, I don't know how exactly it could do that, but I'm sure it could register something like, how many times a player presses the start button to initiate gameplay after losing, since in 4Player games it instantly switches controls based on which character is in, I assume there's a way to do that, unless of course I'm totally off on that, I'm sure Dreemer has theories.

The ways of checking would not be super reliable. It would have to be something specific to each game tracked parts of memory.
There are versions of mame that allow for very accurate recordings though. Those mame replay tourny pages use a version that supposedly makes close to certain replays are accurate. Both players recording would be the best.
Sinala you have played with me tonight without even knowing it ; I'm actually "Albert Kravitz " you remember? I wasn't sure that you had guessed right, so that's the reason of this post. Since you didn't want to play me anymore, after having dragged me sneakily in a place where I couldn't do anything and having written bullshits about my tactics, I have changed of pseudo...and then you have joined my table, for a set of 22 matches.
If my memories work well, it was 16/6 for me there, on the Godweapon server where you had 18ms and I had 94ms. Moreover I know you haven't got any delay this time because you even haven't complained about anything...which is very rare with you !
I hope you realize now who I am, it can sound vain and it's maybe not wise but I take great satisfaction of having shown you that you were completely wrong. Indeed when I have a slightly better ping like tonight (around 90ms instead of around110ms), it suddenly turns in my complete advantage.
I'm definitely among the best players, and you will have many difficulties to find someone of my level on kaillera. Now you can react of 3 possible ways:
1) keep playing with me to get better and forget that stupid shit between us (which began when you said on MKonline that you were better than all the European players)
2) never play with me anymore, but stop your bitching about me
3) keep talking shit about me (=I don't know how to use a pad, I get lucky repeatedly, I'm not better offline than online) and just missing a very good opponent on kaillera, and in that third case I tell you "go buy a brain".
I'm always up for playing against anyone cause I'm just interested in doing great matches and having fun, also it's a pity but I have to admit that the average level of the umk3 player is terrible, both in America and in Europe besides.

*16-6* did you happen to record?
What server were we playing on again? My "favorite" Godweapon, and didn't I say before I left "Albert don't I know you from somewhere?" The only server I really like playing on isn't there anymore. Even if I get under 20 ms to Godweapon it still plays like it's in the 70s, but you don't believe that because you can't understand it.
I also recall many times where I got complete misatches on random selects, and won. Don't brag about winning a handful of matches against a lot of random Sheeva's, Shangs, and Mileenas, even though I still did extremely well with them. I still don't understand why *you* think you can prove anything playing online.
Edit: Don't forget I've been playing offline a lot lately, which would add to the "handicap"
