Since people still have no idea what number this series is on since people are referring this to MK8 still, MK9 might not be such a good idea.

Well the MK team are referring to it MK9 so I guess we should too. I don't think they should call the game that though, wait for MK10 for that, it'll sound awesome.

Calling the next MK "Mortal Kombat 9" would be like Calling MGS4: Guns of the Patriots of the 6th Metal Gear installment because of the Substance and Substsistence add-ons.

If they call it MK9, I'll take a magic marker to my purchased copy and make the correction myself. That's if I buy this game. If the rumors are true about the small returning roster, I'm laying down my arms and calling it over. I'm an MK fan, not a "15 fucking chumps I've never heard" fan.

What are you talking about Temp? Where did you hear that? Also, just curious... But what was it exactly? That we wouldn't have a lot of returning characters or that the roster in general would be small?

Oh, and as for the title... If the game is good, they can call it "Mortal Kombat: Fujin's Windy Day" for all I care.

Nothing specific, really. The number I heard a while back was 6 returning characters, but that could either be coming from the ancient announcement of "a fresh start after Armageddon," or could just be a deduction from the recent announcements (Subzero/Scorpion + Sonya/Kitana + Raiden/???).

Still scares me, though. Queve may be able to confirm or deny it, as I think he still has a solid contact (people thought I had one back in the day, but everything I knew could be traced back to Konqrr, and his legitimacy was no secret).

If they called the next game Fujin's Windy Day, that would rock my shit. This could be the cover art.

Well this game is obviously the 9th game, since umk3,trilogy,gold are just updated versions and mk vs dc is not canon.

Finally someone new to the site understood that the crossover game isn't canon.

To those who keep referring this game as MK8... they're telling the truth whoever doesn't believe it. I got a list to prove it, while not including the extras. I know I said MK9, but I keep forgetting that Deadly Alliance was the 5th game in the series. Here's the list on how they're saying it's true:

Mk3
Mk4
Deadly Alliance (5)
Deception (6)
Armageddon (7)

No, MK vs. DC isn't MK8.

There was a large discussion about that if tthis game was canon where it would be placed and they said it would be, if memory serves me correctly, in between MK2 and MK3.

So technically, if it was canon, Armageddon would be 8th, but, since no one is saying that game is MK8, it's not.

If MKT didn't count as a numbers MK game does that mean MKA doesn't also count.. Therefore it will be MK7

I'd call the next game MK 9 just cos even tho MK vs DC isn't canon it doesn't feel like a side game like MK Trilogy (MK3 with more characters) or Gold (MK4 wih more characters) does.

I do think the next game will be subtitled not numbered.
Whenever MK 10 comes maybe that will be called MKX.
So when that comes we can decide once and for all what games actually count.

Not really, while Trilogy was still about Kahn's invasion of Earth like MK3 was, MKA's story was a fresh one, so MKA should be MK7.

I also usually write MK9, even though I do not consider MKvsDC as canon...

Anyway, I'd prefer for the game if the emphasis was on the subtitle rather than the number. I just don't like numbering games which have more than 3 installments, but that's just me...

Armageddon does count. See, with Trilogy, it was another UMK3 game because that game didn't have it's own story, it still had MK3's story. Trilogy still had Kahn as it's final boss, still had MK3 touches here and there. With Armageddon, there was a story, there was a different boss. Yeah, those might be poor examples to back up the statement about Armageddon being the seventh game, but for the moment that's all I can think of. So, in my case, maybe not to all, but in my case, Armageddon is the seventh game and this next one is the eighth.

But, we don't know that... For all we know, it may just be a reboot as many stated previously in the past. Or, it'll just be called something we'd all not to expect.

You forgot shaolin monks .Although some may argue if it's canon or not,I think that it just tells the events of MK1 leading to MK2 in an alternate way.So,I bet that Boon counts this game and not MK vs DC.Thus, MK9.
