Look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6v3O54LIFs

1. Thousand years ago = BEFORE MK1 = Thats why Raidens costume is his MK1 costume in the scene.
2. He imprisoned Shinnok BEFORE MK1
3. This means its a flashback and Shinnok will not die off as quickly as many members have stated in the story mode.

I say Shinnok And Quan Chi will be in the story mode the last 5 YEARS of the story mode.

It can not be pre MK1, because Shinnok was never captured in the amulet,he was banished to Netherrealm. Amulet was hidden in te Himalayas and protected by four elemental gods until Sub-Zero defeated them all and the rest is known.

I doubt Sonya and Johnny are thousands of years old...
This scene is the end of the Netherrealm War.
Johnny is fighting or distracting Shinnok so Raiden can use the talisman to imprison Shinnok.

Yeah I agree with Weapon Theory. Sonya and Johnnys presence might rule that out. Unless those are actually Elder gods or something.

I would agree with you because I thought the same thing.

Its confusing though because in MK4 Raiden says that he "banished Shinnok to a place called the Netherealm". In the story trailer he traps Shinnok in the amulet.

Shouldn't be confusing since the Mortal Kombat timeline is rebooted.

I don't guess the OP noticed Johnny and Sonya in the background. This scene is the end of the mk4 era, most probably the first act in the story mode. Raiden's classic outfit is simply his alt. Everyone in the story mode will probably be in an Alt costume, just Like mk9.

This doesn't make any sense either because why would Raiden suddenly change out of his MK9 outfit into his MK1 outfit.

Was the NetherRealm war a special occasion to do so or something? Lol

But MK9 begins at the 10th tournament and by then Raiden had already banished Shinnok but I guess.

I hope they don't try to make us believe Raiden, Sonya and Cage were able to Defeat Shinnok, the Brotherhood of the Shadow and the revenants by themselves, that's just ludicrous. Expecting Deus ex machina.

No it isn't, because the person lying down has completely different clothes on and looks to have blonde hair, and also looks a lot like a woman. And "it looks nothing like Johnny Cage"? His outfit is extremely similar to the one Johnny's wearing in the comics right now!

Not sure why people are so hung up about Raiden changing costumes between games... I mean, hasn't he done exactly that before? You might as well complain about Shinnok changing clothes, too.

Ur assuming this all takes place seconds after mk9. It's probably more like 5 yrs later. So y wouldn't he be wearing different clothes?

That doesn't mean shit. Cage, Sonya, Shang Tsung, Kitana and Jade all had their MK9 costumes during the Armageddon (10+ years later) flashback scene.

To anyone saying it's the same person/1 person, look at the guy standing's legs/pants/shoes, and then look at the person on the ground's pants/legs/boots.

The guy standing has pants all the way down, with regular dress shoes.

The person on the ground has boots that go up to the knees, where the pants meet.

Not the same person. Besides, it takes place in 1 fluid scene, Shinnok is being captured by the amulet, we do not see him launch the guy standing 20 ft.

And the reason people say it is Johnny, is because the hair, vest, and tactical belt all look very similar to the ones Johnny is wearing in the newest chapter of the comics.

Exactly. The one on the ground has a chick's ass too. Plus BLACK fingerless gloves. The man standing isn't even wearing gloves.

Look at these pix again. http://m.imgur.com/a/ewASy

Probably because in their old costumes their character models ams faces were completely different and nrs didn't want to spend time adding all them in for one minor scene....

No, I do not have proof of Johnny Cage. That's why I put the question mark beside his name. Hint. Hint. It looks like this

???

As for the person on the ground.

So, no. It's not the same person that was seen standing.
