Ordered in number of likelihood, and not necessarily my personal choices. Also, while the first two were in MK9, I think NRS would still qualify them as characters from the second trilogy:

1. Quan Chi
2. Kenshi
3. Fujin
4. Tanya
5. Bo Rai Cho
6. Shinnok
7. Havik
8. Li Mei

And while it would be nice, I don't particularly believe it either. 4 seems more likely. I think we will see 1-4 on the list, and a NPC appearance or cameo from 5-7. Maybe Li Mei will show up or be DLC.

Kind of off topic but I hope they don't just ignore the Shujink/Taven storylines, Not retread them, but at least deal with the fact that they there quests should be underway during the 25 year time span.

Indeed is 8 bit. Dai derive the 8 characters from MK4-MKD return is certain. The game will have to work somehow Invasion Shinnok and this means at least Shinnok, Reiko, Quan Chi, Fujin and Tanya in the game (maybe Shinnok however be a Boss). The ratio Sareena with history is also evident the same can be said of Ashrah, Drahmin and Moloch (and even Daegon who is also a follower of Shinnok). And do not forget the purge of Earthrrealms put Raiden in obligation to recruit Kenshi.

And considering the Ascension of Kotal is easier seeing opponents to the Throne of Shao as Nitara, Li Mei and Bo Rai Cho than his retinue formed by Ermac, Reptile, Mileena, Baraka and Shokans.

Shinnok and quan chi are certian. Fujin and Tanya are shoe ins. Reiko and Kai are more than likely. so is havik, kenshi and Bo. Hotaru is a wildcard he could be in if haviks in or not. everyone else is hit or miss.
