Sareena has pretty much run her course; there's not much left for her storywise.

Ashrah is far more interesting and developed.

How so? She just took Sareena's story, so she's "developed" using a concept that wasn't originally hers. If they expand upon the significance of her Kris blade, THAT would make her more interesting. What made her want to ascend? Was she always a rebellious demon? Was she someone else in a past life? Is she a banished "angel"?

Sareena seems to be leading a renegade faction within the Netherrealm...who would be a part of that faction? Who are her major allies? What is their goal? That has me interested. They can have both Ashrah and Sareena, no need for one or the other...but Ashrah being more developed than Sareena...eh. Not really at all. Ashrah was in one game...you can't really count Armageddon as expanding on her story since individual character bios and endings were completely irrelevant...it was basically the "Tekken Tag" of the MK series.

Sareena, on the other hand, was expanded upon in several games - Mythologies, the portable version of MKDA (was it unchained?), and her Armageddon appearance (yes, I know I just noted Armageddon as irrelevant but, it was her third game appearance). Then, in MKX, we're basically shown that she's aiding Earthrealm and leading a rebel faction in the Netherealm. So, she's made a total of 4 game appearances, 2 of which were plot-significant (MK:M and MKX), one of which continued her story (MKDA portable), and one which included her fully into the overall MK universe (Armageddon).

Both characters should make a return. MK needs more females, and both Sareena and Ashrah are interesting enough to warrant their inclusion.

It was called MKDA Tournament Edition for gba

I always felt like Sareena character wise, could be the female version "Angel" from the tv show Angel or basically a female Blade

a demon hunter who kills to save others from her race but also battles her literal own inner demons

Ashrah was a demon being manipulated by a sword created to kill vampires. While her Deception story might have looked vaguely like Sareena, it went in a completely different direction.

I remember people were excited to see Sareena and being a bit shocked because she didn't seem THAT well liked. I like her though. I'd like to see her comeback.

Her moves were mostly pretty generic, but her knife throw was the fastest projectile of all 60+ characters.

I think the hype is based on the teased potential that just hasn't really materialised.

I think pretty much the entire roster of Armageddon was generic, but overall I do remember liking her playability wise for her quickness and projectiles. It'd be nice to see her emerge as one of those more obscure but somewhat well-known characters that makes an impact on the regular series.

The movesets in Armageddon were all pretty similar. Aside from the obvious gimmicks, there was a lot of similarities. With over 60 movesets to balance, they seemed to have figured "Meh, if everyone has a launcher, a fireball and a teleport balancing will sort itself out". Not that I'm bashing or anything, since they had a huge task in front of them, but there was a lot of simplicity when it came to balancing everything.

Calling a character's moveset in Armageddon generic is like calling water wet. That game was a hot mess and we all know it. Generic moveset in Armageddon isn't an excuse against Sareena.

I think Sareena has her following because of her links to both Sub-Zero brothers. As well as her demon trying not to be evil backstory. And she has good potential for gameplay with her demon powers.

Sareena isn't my first, or even second choice, but if she got a spot as future DLC, I wouldn't even be mad. Hell, I couldn't.

She's been around since before MK4 and was playable only in Armageddon. I think she's long overdue for another playable appearance.

Why hype for Sareena?
1) Punky Haircut.
2) Sub Zero or Noob Saibot shipping.
3) Demon Girl. Demon girls are always hot.
4) Still considered "new".
5) The alternatives are "purple ninja", "banshee", "rule 63 Sub Zero", "grey ninja", "Bladed arms jobber", "outworld woman", "drunkard master", "wind man".

To be honest I would have: Fujin, Sareena, Baraka and Sindel in as DLC or whatever if I had to have characters that were already in the game/storymode. Maybe throw in Alien and Freddy. I dunno.

If I could have anyone in - Skarlet, Sheeva, Sektor and Havik.

I like them both. I'd actually be into a retcon reveal that Ashrah *is* Sareena -- maybe it's a new form the kriss gives her. It'd be like a light mirror for Bi-Han becoming Noob Saibot.
Same here I like both Ashrah and Sareena.

Li Mei had more character development than Sub-Zero's waifu and is more interesting, and both had generic gameplay. Li Mei, hell even Sindel >>> Sareena

Why shit on everyone else's fun just because you hated the game? Sad way to be.

Garlador...I miss your character breakdowns.

Sareena would be a great candidate for Kombat Pack 2(should it materialize).

Sareena deserves to come back because as far as I know she was planned to appear in MK4, then in MKDA (not portable), then in MKD, at some points, but it never happened. So I think she does have a lot of potential and the team does see it but they always prefer other characters to be in.
