We need new characters. I'll let the developers choose how many

Mortal Kombat 8 definitely needs new characters. Some feel that there should only be a few new characters, and I disagree. With the next-gen consoles and the way Armageddon's story is meant to end things in that generation, the next generation should have more of a sense of newness than before.

Ideally, I feel that the roster should be 20-25 characters. A few of them could be the "sacred cows", such as Sub-Zero and Raiden. Several of the other characters could be some of the newer characters like Nitara, Sareena, and Li Mei. I feel that for the new characters, there should be several of them, maybe about 7 or 8.

NO! That's wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much of an overload of new characters, and a waste of other characters with potential stories.

i say yes to new characters...as to how many i would go with 6 to 8 tops. that is on top of a roster of about 32- 38 characters. some in which could be dlc.

what i'd like to see is 10 new fighters for mk9.

it gets a little boring seeing the same cast over and over just tad bit tweaked up a bit. how many games have midway or wb put out. the answer is alot. why not freshen the series up by having 2-5 classics and the rest be entirly new bringing the roster to 15 with maybe 2 hidden characters. now bringing the roster to 17.

what i'll most likely see is 2-3 new characters if were lucky and most of the older characters from mk1-mk2.

I think there should be 4-6 new characters, because I want them to take it slow and make sure they have quality over quantitiy. I want the characters to have a good story, good design, and good moves. I have been dissapointed by the majority of new characters lately, and I'd rather take 4 good characters over 15 medioce characters.

Street Fighter 3 had its entire game based around characters that were brand new and thats still classed as one of the best fighters ever.
Forward thinking needed people.
Keep half a dozen bin the rest flesh the roster out with new fresh characters with quality movesets.

Here some forward thinking for you. The Mortal Kombat team isn't the Street fighter team. I thought every new character in MKD was bad, and that was only a third of the roster. Out of all of the new MK characters since MKDA there are only two I like, and two I can tolerate. With that said I would prefer if they only added 4-6 at a time to really think about the characters there putting in the game. I like a lot of the old MK characters so I want most of the roster to be filled with the classics.

Traditionally, the MK team has introduced 6 to 8 previously unplayable characters or nonexisting characters as playable in each game. But somehow I get the feeling that rule doesn't apply in the next MK game.

I agree with Sub Zero 7th here. Armageddon was meant to be an end and the next MK was supposed to be a new begining.

Of course, with a new company in charge and undboutedly wanting to see profits as big as possible, I wonder how much of a leash the MK team actually has to really go foward and create something new.

We've also read the rumors about Sonya and Kitana. You put those two characters with Sub Zero and Scorpion and you already have a third of the MKvsDC roster. In other words, the sacred cows.

Would I want a brand new roster for the next MK? Well, I'd like to see the vast majority be new characters that were well thought out in terms of looks and special moves. You know, not just rip offs of old characters with similar or blatantly stolen moves.

But I imagine we'll see a LOT of returning faces. Call it hunch.

I really think Boon will go all out on this one, at least 50 percent of the roster will be new characters.
How else can you have a cataclysmic event with a war between gods and the survivors of armaggedon.wink

4-6 sounds good. 8 max.... I also care more about the quality of those new characters rather than the quantity. Ease the new guys in there, make sensible trade-offs for the sacred cows that have become stagnate, and slowly make the new guys more irresistible than the old ones that need to go.
