For Heaven's sake.... why do people keep creating this useless threads??

What ́s confirmed so far, is that the only returning characters are Sub Zero and Scorpion. NO ONE ELSE!!

We aren't even sure if those two will return! But thruth is: MK8 will have a WHOLE NEW CHARACTER LIST.Accept it, it's true. Every character is going to be forgotten, die, or simply disappear. That's it. If you want old characters to return, you'll hopefully get the two mention above.. hopefully. All the others will be erased.

God... why do these people keep making names for threads like "returning characters", when they are JUST POSTING THEIR FAVOURITE FIGHTERS?

Stop, please. It's highly annoying. Midway won't bring back old characters just because you want to.. The producing team doubtably even reads this threads in MKO..

Nope, wrong. That was never confirmed. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are defiintely returning and supposedly, a lot of old characters won't come back. That's it. It was never said nobody aside from Scorpion & Sub-Zero was coming back.

Get rid of them all. Everyone except Scorpion and Sub Zero, and I wouldn't bring them back with even the slightest bit of similarity as to what they previously looked like. I'm not saying that it needs to be new just for the sake of being new, but if you're going to end the story and wipe the slate clean, than don't do it 50% or 80%. Go all the way. I only included Scorpion and Sub Zero because they're practically the trademarks of this series.

I made a post a long time ago about necessary or "essential" characters to be included in the future of MK.

Honestly, the number of classic characters to be considered should be limited to 20 or less if the team is truly trying to re-haul MK. I'm anxious to hear more about what they mean when they say the game will be completely different. If they are too start completely fresh, then disregard this list... And I totally disagree with those who say Scorpion and SubZero are the exceptions to wiping the slate clean.... One man's whiskey is another man's Scotch.

Here are those "essential" characters in no particular order.

Liu Kang: I liked where the team was going with him taking more of a backseat or side role. The feud with Raiden has potential.

Kung Lao: Extremely popular character, but needs some new role other than simply being Liu Kang's sidekick.

Scorpion: I'm not a scorpion fan, but he is one of the most popular characters, and you know he's Boon's favorite so...

Sub Zero: See above....

Reptile: Personal favorite of the MK "ninjas".

Shang Tsung: The original menace. Always lurking in the shadows.

Quan Chi: He was so important to the story in the last few games, that I feel he is essential at this point.

Raiden: Many might not like the Dark Raiden, but its a nice change up. I could see him being the boss in the next game. I'd like it.

Shao Kahn: No more Shao Kahn as the main boss. He kicked ass in Armaggedon though!

Sonya: Another extremely popular character. Drop the whole Kano gimmick and start fresh.

Johnny Cage: I liked the serious J.C. from Armaggedon. Has potential.

Baraka: If anyone has to be the token "boss's sidekick", it should be him.

Mileena: As long as its not simply her vs. Kitana.

Kitana: See above. I love her as a character, but is in need of a serious story change.

Shinnok: If done property (like his story in Armaggedon), he can redeem himself from his piss-poor MK4 performance.

To be honest, I think killing off characters is a bad idea. What made MKDA so interesting once references to characters who weren't in the game, but were contributing to the plotline anyway (Goro, Noob, & Sektor for example). It was so interesting to find a tidbit of info on Sektor (getting owned by Sub-zero in a Grandmaster take all contest). Everyone was excited for the new Dragon King character simply because there was already lots of vague information of what he was like. I think the future of MK depends on keeping the universe vibrant by forcing players to beat the game with every character how all the established characters are contributing to the world. The characters that I'd kill off are based simply on established storylines that are too interesting to retcon:
