I think the 3D characters who don't make it into MKX go on to form a traveling theatre troupe and tour the realms with their signature performance: Fatality on a Salesman.

— Ed Boon (@noobde) March 4, 2015LOL if Bo Rai Cho is in MKX and Tanya is not at all...
Because Ed Boon said he'd rather have Tanya over Bo Rai Cho and Havik, in a game... in a twitter message from 2013......
He probably changed his mind, since then. *sigh*

"No treble" means "not happening", right?
Please tick off the most popular 3D era characters you have no intention to ever include again first next time Ed, so we don't bother to hold out hope for 10 months. K thnks.

Someone mentioned in another thread that it could mean "[he's] all about that bass", meaning that Bo' is in.
At least in Bo' Rai Cho's case, he's mentioned in the casting call for the webseries and has a connection with Kung Jin.

His inclusion would also contradict the hot rumored roster that's been talked over and over lately.

I think that about sums up the majority of the MK roster since Mortal Kombat II, actually. Definitely for MK4 and beyond.
You can count on one hand the amount of folks from the 3D era that are actually vital to the folklore of MK prior to Shang Tsung's tournament, and virtually all of them can be written off outright (much like the cyborgs, to the dismay of many).
Also, where is this sudden infatuation with Reiko coming from? The comics? Reiko has always been a nobody.

I think his portrayal in Armageddon was the first real turning point for Reiko.
Honestly, I've always thought he was an interesting figure despite his overall insignificance and weak start in the series.

This, I think at this point this much is obvious, not that I can't blame them, becoming more mainstream comes with its limitations, you can't afford too many risks. If you think about it, they didn't introduce one single main character (the good guys) that wasn't related to some old fan favourite as a crutch, they were probably afraid a new unrelated, stand alone hero would be alienated and rejected by the fans. So we have a "safety" pattern here.

UGH. This roster.
I'm this close to hurling myself off into the MK pit.

I thought I was the only one who was feeling this way.
I really do think they are afraid to throw in characters from the 3D Era because trilogy characters are more popular and will always be well-received by the fans and new people alike.
Kenshi was made from the very start to be a badass looking character and he worked, NRS loves him so he is always there.
Quan Chi is the same case, at this point he even replaced Shang Tsung.
Shinnok is in only because the story involves his amulet.
Those are the only "3D Era" Characters.
I half expected Shinnok to not be in either, I'm very happy he made it in.
But if you asked me a day before the story trailer I would have said I don't think he will be in.
Let's just hope NRS consider MK4,MK:DA and MK:D klassics. We need to see at least 2 more 3D Era characters in this roster filled with Trilogy and their kids.

Uh, that's my point, you are giving me examples, I'm asking about successful examples, if anything this is what caused NRS to be more cautious about introducing new heroes.

The point is that they're rightly afraid. Every time they've tried to introduce a new hero, he was met with harsh criticism. I personally like Shujinko, though I would have preferred he had his own unique moveset. Taven had a considerably worse storyline, but had a better moveset. NRS isn't good at writing new heroes. Actually, they've never been very good at writing main protagonists. They've always relied on supporting characters and villains. Liu Kang's story didn't get interesting until he died. I think most Liu Kang fans fell in love with him due to his gameplay or because of the actor that portrayed him in the first film.

I just wonder why NRS seems to despise them so much. Even in the Mobile App commercial they skipped over the 3D era, pretending like it never happened.
There were some good characters, besides Kenshi and Quan Chi, that were really interesting. But I doubt NRS cares, which is kind of sad really.

maybe all the 3d chars are the super unlockable(cyber sub) and NRS is doing a great job at hiding it and come april 14th we all gunna go wild.

I liked Kang because I like played-straight hero characters. Too many "rogues" or "anti-heroes" or edgy takes on protagonists these days.
Unfortunately anyone who's not Kenshi, Havik, Bo Rai Cho, or Li Mei at this point I don't see getting mentioned or being playable any time soon.
It'd have been cool for Ashrah, or Darrius/Hotaru to come back.
