Didn't Kai say to Raiden he wants to wander the earth for self enlightenment rather than to defend earth realm? So I'm guessing that's the reason why he haven't appeared in more MK games. I could be wrong...

I had high hopes for Kai in the beginning, but now that hope is basically non-existent. It's a shame really, Kai has all the potential in the world to be just as awesome as any other hero in MKX.

I do beleive that Kai demands was done at the end of MK4. In this time line, we are during the MK4 era... well... for parts of the game at least.

He was SUPPOSED to be Liu Kang's successor back when John Tobias was on the team, MKDA was supposed to be the next generation of fighters and Kai was supposed to take Liu Kang's place for MKDA.

Of course when John Tobias was still on the team it wasn't called MKDA, they didn't even know what they were going to call it but John Tobias said that after MK4 he wanted to make the next MK game about the next generation of fighters but he never got the chance to because he left the team.

I think Kai was supposed to take Liu Kang's place in MKDA and probably be the wise person who'll lead the next generation of characters but that's just speculation.

I was hoping that he'd be in the game way back when MKX was first announced. But yeah, it's pretty obvious now that he won't be in. I doubt we even get him as DLC since characters like Fujin, Reiko, Havik have more people asking for them. I do hope he's in the next game or even makes a cameo in the comics. He's among the few 3D characters that I actually like.

Kai should've been Kung Jin tbh. There's no reason Bo and Raiden couldn't go to the White Lotus get Kai and give him a bo/bow and arrow and a chakram.

Plus, he wasn't popular among the fans that could be another reason why he never came back

They can't just give Kai a bow and forget about his fire moves, lol. Kung Jin is an archer, Kai was never an archer and hopefully he will never be. Let him go on with his "Let me shot my fire ball on the ground and it comes up from under you."

Years ago, John Tobias called Kai an MK4 reject on his twitter and even said that Raiden should have given his staff to someone else... but the tweets have since been deleted.

I agree. I never understood the facination with Kenshi. He was my most promising fighter when he first was annonced and named "Blind kenshi". And then, I though his mecanics where not fluid at all. Plus they kind gave everything to their cherish child Ermac. (even the Sindel flight. She was the original flyer!).

I'll wait to give an opinion on Jin, but it's true that with the aboundance of family member, thy could have easily replace the cousin by the next generation of White Lotus member... Kai. Just for the sake of not over creating characters that in the end, might just go forgotten.

He can still have his for moves. My point mainly was that if they wanted a new younger Shaolin then they should've used the under developed one they had.
