Update: Taunts May Very Well Be In MKX

posted07/10/2014 05:31 PM (UTC)byJ-spitThey're adding all this personality and still we have no confirmation of taunts. They aren't necessary and serve no other purpose than annoying your opponent, but dammit, I'd love to see my favorite characters be assholes in-game.
How about you folks? Would you want them? How about a different taunt for each variation? Sounds cool to me already, baby.
If that should be a reality, here's some ideas...
Cassie Cage
- Hollywood: *twirls baton* "I make this look easy."
- Brawler: *greco roman type stance* "Come at me bro!"
- Special Ops (idk if that's the name: *patches into radio* "We got a dead man walking. Over."
You know it's fun to think about. ^_^
Update: I've been watching the same gameplay clips from time to time for awhile now and I noticed today that in a gamespot video (Cassie vs Ferra/Torr), Cassie does a salute, but is interrupted by a a flying Ferra. Look closely.

You don't have any ideas though?
Scorpion
- Ninjutsu: *performs hand signs* This could also be cancelled, but if completed, it could buff Scorpion somehow. Stronger magic?
- Hellfire: *points to opponent* "Go to hell!"
- Inferno: *unsheaths harpoon* "You'll die soon enough."
Shit, maybe we can have rival/friend/foe specific dialogue for taunts as well.

A few characters had special moves that were basically taunts which gave you life back. I recall Li Mei having such where she flailed her arms or something like that.

Why not. I want my adversary to go into a Shao Kahn impression and give me a free combo.:P
If the game's letting me decide when to taunt instead of making it such a thing that's done randomly after a certain combo or move i'm alright with it.

I just press the stance change button repeatedly as my taunt.

I think it would be funny if Reiko tried to act like Shao Kahn mid-battle and had taunts.
Coming from a Reiko fan who really wants him in MKX.

No thank you. Taunting will backfire in you as it happens with games like soul calibur, dead or alive and fatal fury which had that option. Let shao Kahn do the taunting thing.

If taunts have a purpose (i.e. a successful taunt regenerates health or super meter) then sure.
If they serve no other purpose than to say to your opponent "Now's the chance to hit me." then no way. I can't see them being used when a better use of time would be to position yourself for a follow-up attack or even play decoy with a different move that isn't intended to connect.

I'm up for taunts, but I don't think they should be given a bonus for using them. It's just to look cool.

Im up for taunts to. I guess it has more use than the stance switch button.
Would be really cool if a stance worked like a perk, giving you something extra when pulling them off. This may trigger players to show off to get that little extra, but at the same time risking aswell.

I love taunts!!!!!! YES! I want this badly!
Scorpion removing his mask fast and breathing fire towards the sky.
Sub-Zero creating a icepuppet and crushes it before the other players eyes.
Mileena doing some horney dance.
Kano doing his spit
And many others.

Good ideas :)
Maybe sub should create an ice skull instead of the icepuppet? the ice skull representing scorpions face?
kano, maybe he should lick his knife while watching his opponent. spit goes well to
Tanya could give the impression that she wants to show her boobies then turn invisible and shows them while invisible. J/K!
Anyway Kano would be the king of Taunts lol, many things could be done like the finger/neck sign that he wants to kill you.
Ferra could do this childish thing with her tongue and hands next to her head, seeing as childish she is. Torr is too stupid to taunt, he's the muscle not the brain.
D'vorah could show her insect features to the player.
Cassie Cage could blow the bubblegum or something like that, or of course say something extremely arrogant.

And then i kick her while shes being invisible and showing them, knocking her down and forsing her out of invisibility.
There you go, you get to see boobs for free.
I don't see why it'd bother some people if taunts had no practical purposes. They're supposed to be fun, to help individualize the characters' personalities, and it's awesome to risk being hit by the opponent just to taunt them.
I mean, wouldn't it be fun if you could taunt one of those Scorpion scrubs, and get away with it? Time it just right so just as it seems Scorpion's spear is about to nab you, your character's taunt ends, and you either block the spear or dodge it. Or alternately, taunt the Scorpion player after failing to get you over here (and Scorpion should not be able to throw another spear right away).
I think we should have two types of taunts: general ones, where the taunt(s) is (are) always the same no matter who you fight, and opponent-specific ones. Here are examples of both
One of Shao Kahn's general taunts: "You weak, pathetic fool."
Against Kotal Kahn: "You Kotally suck" or "There can only be one Kahn!" or "is that you, Hsu Hao? Ha ha ha!!!"
Against Johnny: "Stars plummet"

I'd only like them if you could do them in between rounds. I feel like that's when they're most appropriate.

I dont think Cassie is taunting in that clip. Looks more like she was summoning/calling in another special air strike move

I cannot say for sure, but, isn't their entrance before going into battle kind of a taunt?

I'm pretty sure that's not her designated animation for calling in airstrikes, though.
