Surprising yes, but would hardly draw the OMG reaction already established characters with new and improved looks would.

This would never happen, it just isn't NRS's style. I guess surprising is the best word.

Same here. I'm really curious to see how they top her MKD appearance, if they can that is. They might just toss her in something skimpy and yellow and call it a day.

Man, I really hope not. If there was one bit of feedback that really should have gotten through to NRS about MK9, it would be the stripper design of the females. You're a bunch of 40 year olds, stop designing the women like you're 15 year old teenagers!

Does DOA ring a bell?

Incredibly casual gamer here. MK is really the only one I've kept up with, but from what I hear, it's the same problem?

It can be around the same level of over-sexualization of females, to even more overt (in a voyeuristic manner.) Check out the commercial for DOA: Xtreme Beach Volleyball (which was apparently banned.) I mean, it has a spin-off series of just the female characters playing volleyball in skimpy swimsuits and interacting with each other via minigames.

DOA5 allows you to set breast physics from very slight, to moderate, to high, to insanely bouncy, and (from what I recall) allows you to move breasts in win poses via the analog stick. Also, for some costumes, you can select panty/bra colors. (Mind you, the insane breast physics setting is a secret unlockable.)

Female characters also tend to receive far more costumes than males (many revealing, some not,) often including cat, bunny, or swimsuit outfits. It can also be distracting that some of the females are fairly young; Ayane was 15 or 16 in her debut, Marie Rose is 17 or 18, etc.

Plus, some loss poses do not help with alleviating the sense of hyper-sexualization of females. Male characters', in contrast, don't contain nearly as much panting, writhing, or close-ups on the chest area.

Oh, and the super unlockables for beating three modes on the highest (and insanely difficult) setting are string bikinis for three of the female characters.

DOA is unabashedly sexualized, in essence. MK, while containing some absolutely ridiculous designs, has nowhere near reached the level of DOA.
I actually do enjoy the DOA series, though some of the characters/storylines I couldn't care less about. (Looking at you, ninjas!)
Perhaps the problem with MK is the often horrific character modelling (especially noticeable on females) along with their terrible designs.

Yeah; for the first time in the entire series.
However, Marie Rose is such a loli that it's borderline to many people; she looks like she's 14.
(Plus, it's widely speculated that her existence is to poke fun at Swedish banning of DOA:Dimensions due to potential sexualization of the minor characters in the game. They made a Swede who's just barely legal and looks like jailbait, and then aged the other minors into adulthood to avoid the same pitfall as before (although nobody really cared about Eliot (whose design harkens to shotacon.))
Eliot and Ayane are also just barely 18, along with Marie. (Ayane being 16 in DOA 2 didn't stop them from giving her a bikini costume. Itagaki did as he pleased.)

We do not need anymore cyber kombatants especially a Cyber-Khan. If anything, I'll welcome back CyberSmoke, but, that's it.

I sorta would like to see Sonya back since I loved using her in MK9. but if she doesn't return I wouldn't cry about it. I'd gladly buy her as DLC though if she's not in the initial roster.

I think we'll see a brand new character in the reveal trailer. NRS will use that character to hype us even more, and he/she will be on demo during E3.

From a promotional standpoint, it just seems like a no-brainer to me.

I just fail to see how showing a new character or a bunch of new characters would garner more reaction than showing fan favorites as well as old friends such as Tanya, Fujin, ect with new and improved designs kicking ass. I don't see any one jumping up and down going "OMG! That new character looks so great! He/she will MAKE this game. Yes! yes!". But I do see people having that reaction over seeing someone like Fujin or Havik back in action looking badass.

I can agree with that, I don't mind revealing, but some characters are just a little too much. I hate to point out realism in a game that has four armed monsters who can spit fire, but at least an outfit for the girls that makes a little more sense combat wise.

Whoever said that showing a new character will get the fans MORE excited than seeing old friends and fan favorites in their new designs? That's not what I'm sayin, nom sayin'?

OF COURSE people will be hype to see their favorites in the trailer. Of course people will be hype to see old favs like Tanya or Fujin.

But I believe that the hype can be taken even higher by giving us a brief glimpse of a brand new, never before seen character....among all of our favorites in their new design.

I just want to say, Im totally hyped for MKX. My hype for the high possibility of a trailer is unbelievable. I haven't been on these forums since the Injustice days so im glad to be back :)

On topic, for the reveal trailer, I think there will be ten characters like most of you.

It is inevitable that they will include the two poster boys:

2. Sub Zero

I believe they will tie the events from MK9 to MKX with these characters:

They will definitely show some new faces:
