Too much Scorp liking on NRS?

I honestly hope this is just because the game is on early stages of development, but reading the descriptions of which playstyle brings got me a bit mad about favoritism.

Scorpion gets at least 3 new specials on his playstyles while other characters get 1 or 2 and that's it. He gets more versatility on his customizations that are supposed to add strategy as you sacrifice things to get others, but when Scorpion gets 3 different moves while Sub-Zero's 3rd gives just 1 move and that's all the new strategy you get... at least they could give him his MKvsDC teleport so he can plan with combining that and the clone (clone, teleport behind you to form a trap) and then we get some strategy given how choosing the clone takes away a lot of combo potential as the long combos seem to be on the weapon playstyle unlike MK9 where he had both, Scorp's 3rd has a ground based stun, diagonal "projectile" which hits you on ground or air and back attack. Those 3 powers gives him much more versatility than just the clone IMO.

As I said I hope they spice each style a bit more as right now they seem to be giving scorps too many moves.

Well DUH!!!
Scorpion is Ed Boon's favourite character, so of course he will be favourized. He always has been and probably always will be. Nothing we can do about it.

We only know 6 characters...

We have absolutely no idea about any other character variations or how versatile they may be. Let's not get hasty here.

Here's one thing that we don't know yet, How many standard specials does each character keep? Regardless of style, Scorpion will have his spear, quite possibly his teleport as well. Sub Zero most likely keeps his ice ball and his slide. Some characters might have more standard specials and fewer style-specific specials for balance.

I can't remember where, but I have read that Sub has his slide/ice ball in all styles.

it's stated in an interview by Boon. Though only about the ice ball. We know that the clone in the current build is a setup exclusive. Cryomancer variants will use ice swords, daggers, mauls. The clone is in another one.

He has shown that ability on his MK9 intro and tag mode out animation and MKvsDC, so he has the ability. Scorpion never had the ability of throwing fireballs and there it is.

I know he's the favorite but we're on a point where they're introducting a new tactical feature and making him take more advantage from a game feature rather than just being the winner on trailers gets to the point where it affects gameplay balance and that's bad for the game.

As I said I hope this changes as the game still has a long road in front of it, but it looked like too much seeing all that many moves.

This is all true, but I was sure slide was confirmed as well, so I went back to TYM and found the source. After digging through the forum, it turns out Brady confirmed it. Paulo must have told him after I left the OBS stream last night.

In terms of balance, I think Sub is going to be okay. He gets so much mileage out of the clone. People complained about him being low-tier in MK9, but IMO, his problems were greatly exaggerated.

My biggest worry is that Grandmaster is going to be so substantially better that there's no reason to use the other styles. Unless Sub gets significantly more combo damage out of the ice weapons, Cryomancer doesn't look especially good to me.

As you said, this game still has a long way to go. Nearly a year if they continue with the traditional April release. That's a whole lot of balancing. Too early to call god tier.

Scorpion is probably getting the most attention and detail because he is one of the first two characters they had for this game to work on. Of course he's gonna have a lot into him already as opposed to newer characters. He'll be balanced out just like the rest of them. Regardless, will it really disrupt your gaming experience while playing with and against the other 20something characters in the game? Scorpion might be the only thing on Ed Boon's mind 90% of the time but if you want to keep worrying about him then that's on YOU.

Its sometimes like watching a child, not wanting his character to lose, and hes always going to win. These MK trailers are frustrating, yes i love Sub-Zero the most, but i don't need him to win everytime. God sake let the trailers at least play out evenly showing both characters being able to win.

god i relished that moment in mk9 when Sub-Zero beats him and was about to kill him.

What's sad is in the Giantbomb interview Boon says Scorpion has probably got the most love so far. Then he says something like Sub-Zero needs to get some attention now.

Scorpion is most likely the first character they work on in every game, so it makes sense if he's gotten the "most love so far", because they've taken their time to work on him. He's Boon's favourite, he's the face of Mortal Kombat AND he's the logo of NRS...

Scorpion is the leading man.
I don't like it, but that's just the way it is.
