In my mind it's a alt timeline. Yea, these are Vogel's words but i don't think MK9 and MKX deserve to overwrite MK1, MK2, MK3, Ulitmate MK3, MK Trilogy, MK Deadly Allinace, MK Deception, MK Unchained, MK Tournament Edition or MK Armageddon.

In my mind, it's an alternate timeline/storyline.

I mean they completely ruined Kitana and Mileena's story. It still boggles my mind. Who came up with that retcon and what boggles my mind even more is that apparently the rest of NRS thought it was a good idea.

Don't know why people thought it was an Alternate timeline... It was never ever been shown as an Alternate timeline :/. Didn't Raiden send a message to his PAST self? He didn't send it to his other self from a different world.

Also I just want to say and everybody can quote me on this, Fuck alternate universes and their stupid bullshit they are only there for stupid factor, it's what makes comics fucking bullshit. I'm happy it came from the writer of the story himself, now we finally know this is the same timeline with retcons :). I'm the happiest man on earth because I was RIGHT, I could have been left but nope. I'm always right :).

I'm glad NRS isn't going with the bullshit of "other world" Thank you god.

Sonya did say "Raiden could be having visions of possible futures, not the future."

If that doesn't imply an alt timeline, then what will?

You and I both. Woman-Child Mileena was the WORST thing they did to her character. And it grossed me out when she acted sexual knowing she's basically a little girl in a grown woman's body. Grossed me out even more was that certain people were into that. Also, the changes NRS did to her made her from being one of my FAVORITE characters to a character I absolutely loathed.

But they seemed to overwrite that now in MKX. She seems more MKD like. She's still not my favorites (darn you NRS overwrites!).

I could seriously rant about the Kitana/Mileena thing, but like Ed and Elsa said, Just let it go...

It didn't end with Shao Kahn winning, the story did not end the story is still there. what I liked about MK9 is that it was kinda of a reboot but not really. If you think about it, it's really a continuation because Raiden saved everybody by sending a vague message(which is stupid, why not say "Shao must win", lol) but the story of MK9 for me was a continuation in a way and that's what I loved about it, with all it's flaws at least they tried to not make it a full on reboot, even though it was, they at least tried to explain it in a way that showed us what happened at the end of MKA.


I really didn't want it to be an alt timeline and I'm happy that it wasn't.



Sonya can't imply that because Sonya doesn't know what Raiden is seeing.

She is just wondering if Raiden is seeing possible futures and not their future which is understandable for a human but notice that Raiden never once said "Oh maybe this is what our POSSIBLE future could be" He said "Memories of my future self" Which means that his getting visions from himself in the future.


I understand that people hate a lot of the retcons and I hate them as well but they are not worthy of being an alt timeline.

If they made Liu Kang, Shao Kahn's advisor and the guy who held the tournament instead of Shang and that Shang was actually the one chosen by the Monks then I will take that as a cool idea for an alt timeline.

A few changes here and there don't make an alt timeline, big changes like the example I mentioned are worthy of a new timeline.

But overall like I said, fuck alt timelines, I've always hated that shit and will always hate it.

Good! Alternate universes don't exist, at least not with the exact same replicas of individuals as our own. It's a misunderstood quantum physics theory.

If Raiden literally sent a message to his past self in the same timeline, then how were things that apparently happened before he even got the message different? That doesn't make a lot of sense. If he sent a message to his past self in the same timeline, Mileena likely wouldn't have been "just born" in MK9, as Kitana and Mileena's MK2 bios imply that they had known each other for a while, Kitana even thought Mileena was actually her twin sister.

Since its their story and what they say goes ill roll with it though lol

Do you know what the beginning of MK2011 implied? Shao Kahn was about to end all reality.

There would be nothing left. No time line no universe. Just the One Being and the Elder Gods.

I thought we all accepted that all the idiotic retcons from the last game were just due to NRS's classic laziness.

Not going to lie...I thought it was a much for people to start believing this alternate universe theory. I love the original timeline as much as the next guy, but nothing we can do about it now.

I though it was clear that things have changed. Many things will repeat and this doesn't mean that old characters won't show up, but I wasn't thinking that somehow we would return to the original timeline but without Shao Kahn winning Armageddon.

I made this thread for two reasons:
1. Some of Shawn Kittelsen's tweets seemed to imply an alternate timeline existing.

2. Something to talk about other than the roster.
