You seem to dislike Vogel a lot. They had a slight rivality in MK9 when Kitana found out about her but the story has taken them in different directions. It's not laziness to give old characters new concepts instead of shoehorning old rivalities in a world where they no longer need to exist.

As a guy, I think John seems pretty cool.

I just do not respect him as a writer and think they should give the responsibility to actual writers instead of the programmers and artists.

And really with all the continuity and, uuugh I can't believe I am saying this about MK "Lore" errors in the previous game and MKX (The Tarkata). It really does just come off as lazy. Like he didn't want to bother going back and checking what had previously been established for the characters and their origins.

Heck at times it almost seems like he is doing it out of spite.

We saw at least TWO Mileenas in MK9's story mode, so I definitely think her soul will transfer itself into another one.

Also, Vogel has stated that 'just because you die doesn't mean you go to the Netherrealm.'

So what your saying is that NRS took inspiration from M. Bison; that character in Street Fighter jumps from body to body as well when he is dead.

Which in turn is closely reminiscent of the Star Wars Dark Empire story arc which came out about 3-2 years before Bison's story was fully flushed out.

don't remind me of Star Wars Dark Empire. Having Palpatine OP moreso than in the Movies is poor writing. He should have stay dead.

Isn't their some intros where both Sonya and Raiden are ok with Mileena ruling Outworld, it seems as if they were on her side.
And also theirs an intro with Liu where Mileena says take care of my sister to Liu Kang. It doesn't seem like Mileena harbors much hatred towards Kitana.

In a sense I kind of feel bad for her:
- wants to die so she could be with her father
- some Earthrealmers believe she is the reightful heir to rule Outworld and mostly everyone who was by her side turned on her
- Her rebel army seems to not like her as much either and want to find any way to kill her
- seems to love her sister despite her sister harboring hatred for her

It would be really interesting to see if they make Mileena to be the good sister and Kitana becomes the bad one. Kitana is definitely taking the Scorpion "Mah VenGunce!!1!!" route while Mileena is doing the opposite of that.

Ok so here's this, Kitana is now the queen of the Netherrealm, Mileena just died, what if in the next game Mileena is in the Netherrealm. Maybe Kitana and Mileena won't be enemies. Maybe they will. It will be interesting to see how that works. Also, hopefully now Kitana has the power to bring back Jade, she can't be gone forever. There was really no reason for her to not be in story mode with the other revenants, she was shown as a revenant at the end of MK9.

I think with Kitana being the Queen of the Netherrealm, NRS wouldn't want to have both sister be 'evil"?

I don't have any sense of who is really evil in this game and who isn't. What's up with all the blurred lines.

I would really love if they were going to go this route with Mileena and take her from being a cut and dry villain who is only a villain because she was created by villains. To a sort of Frankenstein's Monster with a heart of gold archetype.

Heck do that and go the route I was saying before with Sareena helping her to free Kintana and you could have Sareena become a sort of mentor figure for her as she struggles with what she is and what she wants to be.

I would love if she was trying to redeem herself to Kitana by saving her from the clutches of evil because she truly does see her as a sister this time around as she has no reason to feel any animosity towards her.

Huh...kinda going the Kuai Liang Bi-Han route there... just a tad.

But I am not going to give Boon and Vogel that much credit. This is MK and they are bound to squander such great potential as they always do.

I agree with the points made about feeling bad for Mileena, I have always liked her a lot and this game made me like her even more and those points come to mind.

As for Kitana and Mileena accepting each other, I don't see Kitana doing that tbh. I'm sure she could but to me she seems like a snob, she probably thinks her royal shit doesn't stink, to her it probably smells like roses and honeydew melon.

Don't get me wrong I like Kitana too, but that's how I honestly picture her lol

Kitana has never been like that but she's brutally evil in MKX.

Takeda : I never considered you an enemy
Kitana : I never considered you at all.
Takeda : Whoa, that was harsh.

I think Kitana is so rude in her intros because they were written with her being a revenant in mind.

Lol yeah I know she isn't really like that, my comment is based on her in MKX (especially her intros) so it is likely she is just like that because she is currently a revenant, but that's the vibe I get from MKX Kitana

I'm a huge Kitana fan, but I agree with your post. She is more stuck up this time around, a stark contrast from her pretty pretty princess all I want is peace and love from the old timeline.
I think it's a combination of her being a revenant and not wanting to be a victim anymore that contributes to her arrogance. But I also I feel that NRS is taking the female versions of Scorpion and SubZero to another level. I feel she truly is becoming a female Scorpion. It's only a matter of time Scorpion trains her in the art of Vengeance. Much like Hanzo has an alter ego, Scorpion, Kitana will have one named Arachnid or something...

Yeah she seems stuck up as hell in this game, and unless she gets restored I don't ever see her accepting Mileena as her sister. I see what you mean about the revenge thing though, Liu kind of gave off a "vengeance" vibe to me as well, especially during his encounter with Raiden.

I do wonder what Liu and Kitana will do now though, same with Raiden.

It really seems like Mileena loves Kitana has a sister in this timeline, there is a intro with Sonya in which she says that they turned Kitana against her.

And yes, Sonya does say that they were wrong in taking the throne from her. No ideia if Raiden says anything.

Anyway, I haven't posted here yet, so here is what I think.

Mileena is much better this time around, she feels fresh, much better than what was in MK9. In MKX she is smarter and reminds me of Deception Mileena, manipulating Tanya and Rain just like she manipulated Bo'Rai'Cho and the Edenians. Her gameplay is great, I love the fact that she uses her Sais more, same thing with the mounth, her X Ray is easily one of the best in the game.

One other thing I like is that she really loved Shao Kahn this time, you can see that when she says Outworld didn't help Earthrealm because they killed him or when she lets D'Vorah kill her because she has given up and wants to be reunited with him (let's be real, she could easily kill D'Vorah with her mounth).

Anyway, she will be back, she is too iconic and popular to stay dead.

There's one pre-battle intro that still is making me scratch my head... and I have no idea what it means or where it was going.

Mileena: "Darling..."
Liu Kang: "Keep away, loathsome beast."
Mileena: "You WILL remember your love for me!"

I assume she was just screwing around with him, but she sounds pretty genuine about it.

Then again, with Baraka dead and Reiko in the wind, she might just be needy (I just realized she gets more bedroom action than practically any other MK character...)

Agreed all-around. She's always been a favorite of mine, but I've never loved her more than I do in MKX. She's really come into her own as a character and her earnest, real love for Kitana and Shao Kahn is fascinating and endearing. I'm hoping we see something of a heroic arc for her going forward -- she's a fun sort of tortured Frankenstein's Monster in this timeline, rather than just evil for the hell of it.

Well don't forget the Kitana and Mileena MK Gold endings.

Where Mileena is demanding a place in the kingdom of Edenia and Kitana just lashes out at her saying "You are not my sister! You were born of Shang Tsung's sorcery for Shao Kahn. What right do you have to the throne of Edenia? You are EVIL! AND HAVE NO PLACE IN THIS WORLD!"

Kinda a snobby bitch thing to do. Up until then Mileena was more misguided then anything.

I'm really hopping they keep in mind what they had established in Kitana's MK 2011 ending.

I wonder about that too. It was in more than one of her intros with him.

Liu Kang: "Leave Kitana out of this."
Mileena: "I'll make you forget all about her..."

Or maybe the girl simply gets around.

Either way, this discussion has opened my mind to the possibility of her being, if not a "good" character, at least a more redeemable one.

I confess, the whole idea of ugly=evil is deeply ingrained in pop culture, and she's a vicious, deranged character at times... but she seems to be a lot more grown up in this game while having *le gasp!* legitimate feelings and love for others, in particular her lost sister.

Years of a universe spent with her hating her and wishing to replace her are hard to forget, but this is a universe where Mileena was not overlooked and neglected, but instead was denied any family of her own shortly after her "birth". It makes sense she longs for the things she never had and to be with the people who made her feel valued.

So... who knows where Mileena will be in the future, but I doubt many of us expect her "death" to be lasting.

Yeah, and she also asks after Kitana lot in intros with other characters. "Where is my sister?" to Quan Chi, "Sister's boyfriend!" and "Look after my sister" to Liu Kang, et cetera. She still has the impulse to want to replace Kitana, because that's the purpose for which she was created, but she can't shake her affection for Kitana either.

I'll be fascinated to see what's up with her in MKXI, especially with all the hints in arcade ladder endings that Shang Tsung will return. And yeah, there's no way she's gonna be gone for long.

*claps!* Well said Garlador!

I really hope they do surprise us and turn tradition on its head.

....

Awe man, I just realized all this talking about what a great opportunity they have to change things between Kitana and Mileena this time around and to make Mileena into this tragic hero.*sigh* is really setting me up for a hard fall when they eventually unveil the next game (get it?) and show that they either didn't realize it, or just dropped it in favor of simply keeping things simple and Mileena is indeed just pure evil because of course she is.

*rolls eyes* god damn it Vogel...just prove me wrong NRS, please just prove me wrong.
I think she might be somehow linked to Kitana, emotionally.
Like when she said "Jade was my...Kitana's...best friend" in MKSM. She appeared quite confused herself there.

Well that was just them toying with the whole clone concept and her wanting to assume Kitana's identity.
