Well Vogel apparently has no clue how to write a character anymore. Onaga's incredibly pointless as he's Shao Kahn Redux. Any character evolution Goro had was tossed out the window. Sub's was halted (as it looked like he was in line to take over the main hero slot in DA, then abruptly shunted off to the side to do nothing in Deception). Scorpion's character has been stuck in a rut since Mortal Kombat 4. And that's really only the beginning.

Since Mk2 actually. He only:

-Escapes hell.
-Searches for the killer of his family.
-Fails
-Returns to hell.
-Escapes again.

MKD changed that....but it was very lame.
motaro was cool, but as far as subboss go i gotta stick to kintaro as definatly the last cool subboss IMO

I dont think it was lame at all, i mean its the best they could do and at least now he is going to be one of the main characters in MK7 if the game lives up to the title the elder gods will be most certainly involved, thus sending in their champion to sort things out.

I think its lame because it feels like a very weak, silly and desperate attempt to improve Scorpions storyline. This character has potential, they could had done so much without giving him the supposed “heroâ€? role, which was done badly and doesn’t fit him at all. But that’s just my opinion, I respect yours.

I agree with you that at least it changed his past storyline and gave him a new twist though, I wish it would have been done in a different way though.

I don't think Scorpion has been given the hero role though. I mean, he's the Champion of the Elder Gods, but does that make him a hero? It sounds like a very impressive position, and it also does make him sound like he is allied with the side of righteousness, but we know that the Elder Gods aren't anywhere close to being "heroes".

They didn't allow Raiden to fight against Shao Kahn in MK3, and made him forsake his Godhood to do so. Later they refused to intervene in the Deadly Alliance issue, meaning Raiden had to leave their ranks to pursue his own goals. Personally, I think they sound like a group of self-serving scumbags, rather than heroes or protectors.

I think their primary concern is the governing of all Gods (but what occurs between the Gods of various realms is up to them, not the Elders, thus why Shao Kahn can barge into various realms and take them over as he pleases), their own self-preservation (why they rewarded Raiden when he saved them from Shinnok), and the prevention of the return of the One Being. In fact, the One Being issue is the only one that they are ever truly proactive about, and even then they didn't get it right.

I think Scorpion has become a shell over the years of pursuing convoluted ideals of revenge. His humanity has been sapped away from him in his hunt for those who wronged him, starting when he killed Sub-Zero, then when he attacked the younger Sub-Zero, and then when he attempted to kill Quan Chi. Who says that being a Hellspawn doesn't come with a price? It should; a hefty price at that, and that price should be the destruction of your soul. The Elder Gods saw that he was a shell, but an incredibly powerful shell, and made him their Champion. He would follow their orders without question, and stop the creation of the One Being, just the way they wanted. Who knows, maybe Monster was the same.

As for Motaro, well, to be honest I never really liked him, and he wasn't given a heavy enough dose of story to make him likeable for me, no matter what plot angles he introduced. I would not be adverse to another Centaurian character appearing, however, to take that rivalry between the monster races a little further. I have always liked Goro better than any of the others though, with the exception of Moloch, who I thought was superb.

Toxik said : I think Motaro should return, I hated Moloch. I don't like Goro either, so Motaro should return in MK7.

See my thread. The one titled something like, my super duper ideas no one will care about.

I mention Motaro. Like I said there, I think he should be an undead sub-boss general in Shinnok's army, while Kintaro is a sub-boss general of Kahn's.

This paves the way for the Shokan/Centaur conflict to boil over, and brings Motaro back without actually having him "brought back."

I find it amazing that with better technology, we've been getting weaker sub-bosses. Goro was brilliant in his heyday, Kintaro almost as good, and Motaro pretty good as well. Goro's no longer the menace that he was, though, and Moloch didn't quite reach the same level as those before him. The Dragon King is the closest to a new "brute", but he lacks the certain charisma that the previous people had in intimidation, size, and "realistic" ugliness. From clay animation to digital, I have yet to see a digital beast to better the likes of the first three entries. While I don't think Motaro should come back, I'd like to see something akin to him in power and size make an appearance.
