That's a possibility, sure. But think of, let's say, Jade's ending from mk9. Interesting ending, right? Now think of all the subtext and nuances of that ending that would be stripped away if it were just a straight up fmv.
Hell, even if they did integrate them your way, all the text at the beginning of the video, just to set the scene, would've already rendered the fmv nearly useless.

Why do people assume that FMV endings can ONLY show one scene? That is what ended up happening in MK4/Gold, sure but it doesn't HAVE to be that way. Why couldn't it jump around in location/time some? Also, there be a MIX of FMVs and text for the ending where they give you the text exposition first and then actually SHOW you a particular scene described in it, or the conclusion to whatever is set up within the text
Trying to think outside the box here.

The thing that made it interesting ending was that she was mysterious, they could still capture that in an FMV. It's not like they have to be the MK4 endings, they could still be well-narrated from a first-person or third-person perspective. With the technology and engine now, the endings could be much more spectacular and memorable than animated-pictures.

Plus this lol. Tired of everyone having a happy ending these days. I liked how people got killed in their own endings in MK4 lol.

I legitimately prefer the animated comic endings from MK9. Creating FMV or even in-game rendered endings that compare with the scope and storytelling quality of the MK9 endings would take a fabulous amount of time, money, and effort I wouldn't really expect any studio to put into such a small aspect of the game.
Did you catch the MK9 story mode?

Time and effort I can understand, but I'm pretty sure that Ed Boon is at least a millionaire at this point in his career.

Not saying MK9's script was awful, but it definitely wasn't excellent. I think a lot of that had to do with the voice acting and animations though. And the score was good, there was just a lack of it.
Just a thought but,
Imagine Sub-Zero's MK9 ending FMV style with the Machinima Raiden Trailer music as a backing track. Holy shit.

It's odd, when thinking back... MKD is the game that stuck with me. I think it's because the MK team took what made MKDA good and made it even better, and it was Jade's, Tanya's and Mileena's awesome return! So it's the endings from that game that stays the clearest with me, which were really cool as well!
When I look back at the MK4/Gold endings, they make me want to cringe. Compared to other fighting games with FMV endings, such as Tekken, they were just... bad. Like, really bad! Tanya's laugh when Liu Kang finds out he's been decieved, Jarek's and Sonya's... and Jax's... stand-off on the cliffside, Reiko just walking into a portal and sitting on the throne, the animation so robotic and stiff and emotionless... They were just so bad!
Tekken stuck with the FMV endings, and funny enough... they are quite bad too. Not animation or graphics wise, Namco has always made beautiful cinematics... but they explain so little and have little to no relevance to the characters, just small sketches and spoofs mostly. It really shows that Namco only cares for the main characters which are Jin, Kazuya and Heihachi.
Mortal Kombat, however... Mortal Kombat is epic! Every MK ending, no matter if they are canon or not, takes the characters and gives them an epic ending that (for the most part) makes sense! And they've done that best with their text-based endings which have only been graphically improved for each game (except for MKA... rather sloppy endings in that game).
I just don't think MK needs FMV endings. Yes, they will be pretty, but that's not what MK is about. It would be a waste of time and money to make FMV endings for MK, imo, when their current recipe already works so well! They're almost iconic for MK.

I would love FMV endings above all else or if they could pull some thing off with the in game graphics...that would be cool for me too. Also the what if scenario of the endings was kind of interesting IMO.
anyways for all things canon, there is the story mode.
I just hope the armageddon endings don't return....EVER!

Definitely prefer text. Sure MK4 endings were more memorable but they were goofy looking and horribly acted. Obviously MK has come much further in its animation and voice acting talent.
But I still prefer text endings.
But I still prefer text endings.
Endings? Mmmmm I want endings like MKII, III and IV commercials. With real actors, accurate looks for the characters, cinematic style with some CG elements. Short, dark, scary, with a narratot who is telling the ending during the scene. LoL.
Probably not, but would be nice tho :)

Full blown FMV endings would be nice, but I'm not so sure NRS is willing to put in the amount of time necessary to do them justice. If say 30 characters are in MKX and each one had a 1-minute FMV ending, that would be 30 minutes worth of footage added on to what will probably 2-3 hours (guessing) worth of cutscenes in story mode. It may not sound like much, but that's a lot of extra time, money, and effort added on to an already massive game. The way the endings were handled in MK9 worked well and I'd be fine if they were handled in that fashion again, in fact that's what I'm expecting.
That being said, if I'm wrong and NRS does decide go with FMV endings, they would no doubt be absolutely amazing! Forget what happened 17 years ago with the MK4 endings, the tech back then was like something out of the Stone Age in comparison to what is available now. I look at MK9's endings and imagine how they'd look if they were in full motion and I think the result would be glorious! I can just imagine Scorp and Subby mowing down countless soldiers with fire and ice or Nightwolf transforming in to a werewolf in beautiful full motion and how cool all that would look.
And just to add something to the people saying they want all endings to be canon, how would that work? The story mode handles that just fine and makes everything canon. Character endings are "what-if" if scenarios and they should remain that way. Otherwise you having Johnny Cage teleporting away with Raiden and Sonya for his ending instead of seeing him become a god like his real ending showed and that's just one example. You get the picture though; story mode for canon and continuity, arcade endings for "what-if" scenarios.

Back at the pre-MK9 days I wanted to see MK game with story mode cutscenes / endings made with actors in costumes. Nowadays, I think contrast between real actors and models will be to big to handle. So no, I don't want that anymore.
As for FMV endings....I like that idea, but the way they work you can't tell a lot with them. Besides, for them to be equally informative as text / slides endings, you need to create various locations, various additional models with animations and costumes for characters...too much hassle for 2 minutes clip. Of course, I am not completely rule out possibility of the FMV / engine endings, but I don't think we will see them.
Personally, I am satisfied with animated slides from MK9 for a time being. Of course, if NRS once again exceeds my expectations, I won't complain.
