Street Fighter 4 release approach for MKX?

posted08/05/2014 11:54 PM (UTC)bydiirecthitHow would you feel about NRS releasing new packs/expansions every 1 or 2 years? I mean they're using a new engine for MKX, so i personally don't see the need to change it again after MKX, especially considering the current gen of consoles is just getting started.
SF4 started with 25 characters, and its latest version has 44, and several new stages compared to the first version.
That way they could also have a lot of obscure, older characters back without the need to get rid of the staple characters, since they woulnd't have to start from scratch.
Killer Instinct is also getting updates in the form of "seasons" with new characters and stages.
What do you think? Do you want regular updates, or brand new installments?

No way. I do not like this at all. It splits up the fanbase and it is too expensive. It is a garbage practice to rinse customers.
The current model NRS have is spot on. Realease the main game and seperate DLC characters. You do not like one, pick another. Then release a Komplete Edition with everything at a cheaper price.
No one should follow Capcom's lead.

Want to make me a sig? Something simple with Reptile elbowing in mk9 would be great :)

They could have a lot of dlc chars, but i dont think it will be like SF or KI because MK is somewhat story driven. If they came out with a UMKX year later with bunch new chars and some nee stages, i dont think that would be enough.... They might as well do as they did with mk9.

SSF4 + AE upgrade + Ultra upgrade = $70
MK9 + DLC characters = $75

I agree with this though, i don't think they'd go through the pain of adding a new story mode each update, maybe adding a couple of chapters ar most.

That is not fair. You are startting with Super Street Fighter 4. Why do not you start with Street Fighter 4 like I bought for $60 then add it up. I do not know how you got those totals anyway.
Secondly Street Fighter 4 is 6 years old. How many people want to wait a console generation between installments? Horrible idea.

Definitely updates...I mean making it to 10 games is a big deal in my mind no need to rush off to the next project only a couple of months after release

I don't get why this was even a topic. I'm sure everyone would pick updates in place of having to buy a new game each time they add new shit. They did updates with MK9, along with DLC and that worked perfect. Same with Injustice. Let the Street Fighter drones buy new SF's every other year with new content because that's what they're used to.

Mortal Kombat, while being a good game. It's not good enough for longevity for whatever reason. Making expansion and new packs will just be too much work for no reason. Just stick with the four DLC characters method. At the same time, we are going to want a new game. That means a new story. And the following is a reason...
As for Engine. It doesn't matter how one feels about it, the fact is, Mortal Kombat constantly changes it's gameplay every game. And once NRS get used to Unreal Engine 4, best believe the next MK game will run on it. When the first trailer was new, and the questions about what Engine will the game run on, everyone kept bitching how it's not running on Unreal Engine 4 and how it's not new gen console exclusive and how the last gen consoles are only holding it back, waah waah waah. So yeah, no. It's going to be on a new engine next time.
The reason why Capcom's Street Fighter IV is what is it, is because Capcom for whatever reason refuses to make balancing issues fixable through constant Patches.
And they just suck so hard at making "new" characters obtainable through DLC.
Instead they rehash and bundle all that over again and charge you for all that. But they have an excuse because they get to put more Replay Feature options each time, which probably isn't possible through an Update.

Read his post again. He is saying NRS' current release model is fine and that no one should follow Capcom's model.
I think both of you guys have got the opposite opinion of what updates is even though you both agree with one another. I will clarify:
Update-Is the same game getting released but with additions. Example is Super Street Fighter 4 is an updated version of Street Fighter 4.
Installment-A complately new game in the series. Example is Mortal Kombat X is the next installment in the Mortal Kombat franchise after Mortal Kombat 9.
I am in favour of the current Mortal Kombat model where there are installments not updates.
I hope that clears it up.

I knew what you meant, it was pretty obvious (not giving you shit). I said updates like how NRS has been doing it lately with their last two games. And how people would rather have updates rather than a game like Street Fighter that just put out the same game, with things included. There's like 8 different Street Fighter 2's, which is fucked up. JadedRaven wasn't understanding I said people would rather have updates than a revised game just with some new stuff in it. They didn't understand what you said, or what I said.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind if they did it maybe once, not 75 times like SF4.
Honestly, at $5 a character, DLC is expensive, and I'm sure we'll all want more than 4 more characters added once the full roster is revealed. I wouldn't mind if they did their 4 DLC characters, and then about a year after re-released the game with maybe 8 or so more. But this is all very unlikely and I don't care whether it happens or not.

Well, let's do the math, shall we...
If each character in a game was to cost 5 dollars, and there's 28 characters in a game, the game would cost 140 dollars. And that's without counting all the content that isn't just characters.
So yeah 5 dollars a character is pretty expensive.

Well, what do you think is a fair price for a character?
Obviously DLC is both a method to extend a game's lifespan/add additional content, and make additional revenue. Given those two objectives, I don't think $5 is asking a whole lot.
Yes, something like $10 would be inappropriate I think, but $5? I don't see the issue.
