This is a positive for me. I am glad to hear that they are aware of the demand for the story mode DLC.

Now, as far as KP2, I also hope they acknowledge the backlash they are receiving here. I've never seen such a negative reaction like this before, because for as much as this fanbase is bitching about the fact that there are now 2 more guest characters...that is also ALL this fanbase ever talks about.

Take a look at all this bitching. Then, look back at MK9 and MKX threads, going back as far as you can to the earliest posts. What will you see?

I abstained from Freddy in MK9. I was absolutely disgusted that he was the final character in the dlc wave. Admittedly, I bought the Gamestop Special Edition which came with the Kombat Pack because I just love MK, and even though Jason was a part of it, so were Tanya and yes, even Tremor. Predator made me happy because Alien and Predator are my absolute all-time favorite sci-fi/horror movie monsters. Jason I played once - and only once - to do his tower. That was it.

I will NOT be bundle purchasing KP2. I will definitely get Bo and Tri-borg. Leatherface will not be in my game. As for Alien...again, Alien/Pred are my absolute all-time favorite monsters...I have yet to think about it. For now I am leaning towards a resounding no on Alien.

It pains me to say it but I also hope KP2 undersells. Maybe they'll wake up instead of listening to the slavering idiots that comprise 60% of the modern MK fanbase, and pay more attention to the few people here and on other fan sites that REALLY want MK characters.

I just hope that the classic characters (such as Noob Saibot, Smoke, Jade, and Shang Tsung) get resurrected and playable again.

I'd be totally up for a Story-focused KP3 with only returning fighters + new cinematics and an extended epilogue. I'm also in favor of MKX adopting the model that Capcom are taking with Street Fighter.

Boon should give the fans the characters that they wanted to see playable who are already modeled in the game. Fujin and Li Mei are absolutely needed. Xenomorph may have a Tarkatan variation but Baraka dies in story mode so he most likely won't be in MK11 so I'd throw him in. Final fighter would be Rain.

If there's a KP4, I'd go with Frost, Sareena, human/undead Smoke and Sindel.

Don't forget Ninja Turtles, 'cause y'know, KI got a Battletoad.

It's odd that so many were against a story pack (myself included) but now it may be a saving grace lol.

Getting Fujin, Sindel, Rain and Baraka would definitely cushion the blow of KP2. Even if Baraka has pretty much been deconformed. Although, gameplay should reveal if that's a true statement or not.

I do not think Ed is talking about a DLC pack of fighters from the story mode. What Ed is saying is adding more chapters to the story mode. That does not necessarily mean new charaters. It could be characters that are in the game that never got a chapter in the story mode.

They would never, ever release story mode chapters without new characters. That idea would never leave the board room. No one would buy it apart from a tiny percentage of MK die-hards.

Maybe, but not never. The only thing specified in the interview is making the story mode more robust by adding to it. Beyond that, nothing is given away. A lot of work goes into the story mode. Not only the script, motion capture, hiring of prefessional voice actors and cinematics and so on. It eats into the budget. It is much easier to do it with an existing character then adding a new one.

Its not looking too good for Baraka IMO. I do think that the tarkatan blades on the Xeno are variation specific, but literally having one of Baraka's main attributes makes me think he isn't ever getting in this game :/

Me too. Which also makes me doubt Sindel or Rain ever getting in to it either. If they threw one of their Story Mode NPCs out of the boat (and arguably the most popular one), it leaves little hope that a Story Pack will ever see the light of day with the other two. At this rate, I'm just hoping they'll hurry up with removing the Steam checksum so modders can do their magic and start fixing this game without all the interruptions.

The difference there though is that Baraka is dead in the canon, while the other 2 aren't. It doesn't mean much, but I can see them adding Rain and Sindel while ditching Baraka on the "he's dead" excuse. Would I be happy about it? No, but at least we'd be getting SOME new MK characters.

Maybe. It's a possibility. I wouldn't get my hopes up though. It is kind of funny how now the Story Pack, which was the worst thing that could have been revealed a couple of weeks ago, is now something that a majority of us want because lo' and behold, it actually wasn't the worst thing that could have been revealed.

So maybe Story Pack could be Sindel, Rain, Fujin and Sareena (or Li Mei/Frost). Double up on female characters due to the lack of them in this pack, finally shut the Rain fans up, finally give Fujin his due. Lotta birds, one pack. Only way it would ever happen is if people make a lot of noise for it. Injustice 2 time is rolling in.

If "Story Mode DLC" came with playable characters I would buy it. No possible way I would pay for JUST more story mode to eat up my hard drive space. I am sorry that I am just old school. I have been playing Mortal Kombat since MK1 in the arcade and miss the good ole days of the game consisting of characters, levels, and a nice ending for each.

Yeah, if they had story modes for Frost & Sareena.....otherwise I'll just leave MKX in the grave where it belongs.

I strongly got this interpretation as well, especially because the quote is so vague/general. Nothing is being promised or even hinted at. Knowing NRS they will change "won't" to "can't" and will focus on Injustice 2 or the horror movie icon fighting game they so desperately wanna make or whatever else their next project is. And who knows, with WB behind the wheel maybe thats true.

Honestly tho, looking at how long KP2 has taken, if we got a KP3 with 4 new characters AND story mode DLC it wouldn't be till fall of 2016 or possibly even 2017 and by that time even die hard MKX players wouldn't really give a shit. They really fucked up big time with the KP2 in terms of sustaining a loyal player base a year after the game's release (assuming the shit netcode hasn't done this already). The only positive being that in future games they won't pull this kinda shit or at least will try to get in touch with what their fan base actually likes. Hope they enjoy all the cash they get from the non existent letherface community. And what kind of hardcore Alien fan goes out and buys an entire fighting game plus DLC just because that single character (shittily mixed with Baraka to boot) is on the select screen?? And finally why should fans give a fuck about story mode DLC when NRS poops out cheap, half assed characters like Tri-Borg and shit all over their own story? I swear MK fans are the only ones keeping the MK lore alive, NRS has just completely lost interest with their own mythology and are starting to lose touch with their fanbase as well. Gah I didn't mean to turn this into a rant but yeah, I just can't shit on KP2 enough.

I think dreaming about a new KP is a dream that'll never come true. I mean, it's almost obvious that KP2 was made out of nowhere after KP1 sales. Besides, KP2 will still be released in 2016. If there was a new KP (depending on KP2 sales, probably) it'd take so long to do it that the game would be dead by then (which means low sales again). I think the risk is too much for them to spend money on it. Has NRS supported a game this long before? WB would never agree...

What if they make Kombat Pack 3 and the characters are Fujin, Li Mei, Sareena, and Frost. This would make people happy with no more guest characters added and three women Kombatants.
