According to Boon in an interview, there will be deaths in story mode just like last time, characters will actually have fatalities performed on them in story mode.
So, who do you all think will bite the dust this time around?

Apparently they won't matter as most everyone dead from 9 is still somehow alive.

I really like Quan Chi, but it's time his big scheming ends up backfiring on his face and either Hanzo, Bi-Han or Kuai Liang kill him.
If it's what it takes to keep Hanzo away from being manipulated all the time I would let him do the honors even if I'd prefer Noob or Sub-Zero doing it.

Im expecting Sonya to bite it in Story Mode. Probably Kano too.

I think it will all be explained in MKX with good reason.
I needed to refresh my memory on MK9's story and after reading the wiki page, I've come to the conclusion that either MK9 happened in an alternate timeline, or that the events of MK9 changed the actual timeline. Sort of like JJ Abram's Star Trek. Raiden sent a message back to himself to change a doomed earth timeline. With Shao Khan breaking the golden rule of MK by merging a realm without winning MK, the eleder gods probably restored the rightful timeline after destroying him. Thus we have MKX. Plus with MKX shifting back and forth some 20+ years it actually makes sense. As much of a cop-out as it sounds.

No. In MKX we are still in the alternate timeline. Liu kang is dead along with Sindel and all she killed...unless they get resurrected by Quan Chi. Kitana and Kung Lao died and are back until story mode we won't know how exactly till then.
Also until story sindel, noob, subzero.nightwolf Stryker etc are still dead lol

Whats the point of a story mode death, if we take it as a joke. The fight will always move on somewhere else by the same two knuckle heads, and characters will never die off anyway. Even the human ones. The so-called "Mortals" in Mortal Kombat have a very unmortal way of magically returning from painful deaths. The story adds a good background to everyone, but takes away a little bit of meaning.
Yeah Kung Lao looks amazing in MKX, but ummmmmm. Did they not realize I saw his neck get cracked like a twig by Shao Kahn in MK9 Story mode?? Im sure producers and executives alike can further insult my intellect with what I dont know. THE STORY, that explains how Kung Lao fixed his own neck just in time for the new year. Ok.

Well, maybe you should complete the story mode. You will see Kung Lao in Raiden's chapter - reanimated and kicking butt. Duh...

RAIDEN!!!!
*Yawn* So? They will probably be as poorly executed and meaningless as they were in the last game too.
Fuck i'm willing to bet they kill Kitana again because ooooh nooo shocking aaah. *rolls eyes*
Then they'll kill Raiden again and expect us to all get teary eyed as if we were playing Mass Effect because we have never EVER seen Raiden die before...only to shrug it off 4 minutes later, then die again, shrug that off and get himself some red contacts.

I seriously have no idea why people are so surprised the dead characters are back. Did everyone stopped playing the storymode after Sindel killed them off? Or you just choose to ignore the fact that you fought against them right after their death?
People, it was completely clear they would play a big role during Shinnok's invasion. All of them? probably not, but don't be surprised to see them back, it's not like NRS hasn't done the exact same thing before
Kill everyone in MKDA
Villain revives them but controls them
Released and returned to normal by the end of the game.
The difference now is that the game takes place in a (much) longer period of time.
I'm sorry, but I just don't understend. Is theren someone able to explain to me why did you think the heroes death was going to be permanent when you were able to fight against them not even 5 minutes after their death?

Yeah pretty much. I'm just not a big fan of the chapter system.
As for who's going to die? One of the Sub-Zeros, Raiden/Liu Kang, Quan Chi, Baraka/Mileena, Reiko, Shinnok, Sonya, Kano, Sektor, and probably Goro.

Replace Shinnok with Reptile^ Not that I dislike Reptile, but because Shinnok has barely been in the games.
A lot of folks whining about the untimely demise and miraculous restoration of a couple of MK9 characters seem to be suffering from selective memory.
For example, they somehow forget that:
● Canonically, Bi-Han died and eventually returned as Noob.
● Baraka was bisected down the middle by Kung Lao and still showed up in MKG.
● Johnny Cage was killed, but then resurrected and restored to earth.
● Kitana, Johnny, Kuai Liang, Jax, ect were all killed by the DA, but were later restored with Ermac's help.
● Shang Tsung and Quan Chi were obliterated by Raiden's Nuke of Self-Sacrifice...and yet they both returned in Armageddon (now, that one, I agree, I have a hard time reconciling with).
Point is, most of these characters were killed, and NRS has always crafted at least a decent *scenario* or reason to restore them to life. But some of you act like a simple neck snap should mean perma-death...and if we weren't playing Mortal Kombat, where fatalities are a staple of thr series, if not its defining element, I would agree with you that Kung Lao or any other MK9 casualty shouldn't be able to just be revived.
BUT, since we are playing a game where a man can be sliced in half and "stapled" back together with a little dark sorcery, I'm confident that NRS isn't just going to throw some fallen MK9 characters into MKX without some sort of explanation...and if you think that by doing so, it cheapens the impact of "death" in the MK story...then I think you may be playing the wrong game, or you may be taking the story too seriously...seeing as how death and resurrection happen almost constantly in MK, ever since beginning of the series.

Hate to nitpick, but Kuai Liang didn't die in Deadly Alliance, he was kinda busy getting betrayed by Frost at the time, lol.

This. I appreciate what they accomplished with MK9 and Injustice, but it just doesn't beat ACTUALLY getting to walk around the realms, exploring, finding secrets, walking into familiar faces.
I guess what I'm saying here is give me a Mortal Kombat MMO. lol As for Story Mode, people will die sure, but they'll be back come MK11. lol
