Well? Anyone else out there who has been wanting animalities back in MK for a long time?
I know that Ed Boon has said before that part of why they never came back after MK3/UMK3/MKT is because the animations were difficult to do/used so much memory, correct?
So there's probably not much chance they'll return in this game, especially considering it's cross-platform and not a next generation exclusive. But I can dream, dammit.

Ew. No thank you. Animalities are an abomination. They were horrid.
Friendships however would be fine. I'd take cute over stupid any day.

LOL. I KNEW I'd get that kind of response. I'm aware that the majority of old school MK fans hate Animalities. I'll never figure out why.
Did you never read Animorphs as a kid? Huh??
TRANSFORMING INTO AN ANIMAL IS BADASS, WHY DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THIS?? *shakes you by the shoulders*
Seriously though, different strokes, I get it. I'm just trying to see if there is anyone else out there who actually misses Animalities.

Damn you're no fun at all.
I'd be totally down for Animalities. That kind of sillyness and absurdity is what makes MK so fun in the first place.

I'm with you on Babalities, too damn repetitive and useless. Although, the ones they had in MK2011 were a huge improvement over the ones back in the day in Trilogy. At least they had funny animations, instead of the fighter just turning into a baby and crying.

Exactly!
And honestly, if you view MK as being serious, I don't understand why you would be okay with Friendships but hate Animalities. FFS, people shoot fireballs out of their hands in these games. And you're balking at the idea of someone transforming into a non-human animal!?

Really? Can I ask why?
I don't understand why people hate them so much. How is it any more ridiculous than people who can shoot fire out of their hands, freeze people etc.?

I found them to just be downright boring. Half of them did the same thing with nothing interesting happening. They were either "eating" their opponent or just knocking them off screen.
Also, Cyrax can turn into a shark that can breathe out of water and can swim through concrete. And Reptile is a monkey.

What I wanna know is how Friendships and Brutalities are somehow more accepted. They're both batshit crazy.

Okay, I understand. It sounds like you are complaining about the EXECUTION more so than the concept itself.
Don't you think they could make them a lot more interesting now with the technology they have?
And yeah, some of the animals characters morphed into were nonsensical choices for them.

You should know by now that logic doesn't exist in MK.

Oh I would most definitely say that they would be more interesting and better looking if they were being created. And if they were ever to be re-introduced again to us in this game, I wouldn't throw a fit about it. However, I just don't really feel that they should return, but like I said, if they were they would be much better to look at.

I've known that since Sub-Zero's been freezing people in mid-air without causing them to fall.

I think it's very easy to make them very cheesy. I'd rather see focus on fatalities, possibly brutalities, and perhaps some new finishers.
Now if they were in MK 2011, which has more of a cheesy vibe to it, they could have worked better. If MKX or a future MK game were to have cheesy animalities, we need to have egg-shitting penguin Scorpion return.

I can't believe people actually want D'Vorah to turn into a dog and Kotal Kahn to turn into a rhino because that's what we'll be getting if aimalities were to return. Are you sure you're cool with that? If so-

You're right. They don't have to be cheesy, but I'm just afraid that they would make them cheesy again. The thing that gets to me about this series is what its trying to go for in terms of ambiance. Is it meant to be more on the serious side or more on the cheesy, light-hearted side?

Both. It has always been both IMO.
Just gonna copypaste my response from the last thread:
MK3-T is forever going to be remembered as the game that took it "over the top", and I wonder if folks who use the presence of babalities or friendships as a rationale for animalties tend to forget that.
Nowadays we consider 3-T classics by association, but at the time a lot of people saw it as a silly clusterfuck. It's one thing to have the odd joke like pac-man heiroglyphs and shadows on the moon...but when you go a few games ahead and you've got fatalities where arcade machines get dropped on people, violence toned down to be intentionally cartoony, explosions resulting in 3 skulls, 2 ribcages, twenty-nine leg bones, etc, skeletons being pulled out of mouths sans gore, Smoke blowing up the world, and every member of the cast could turn into a glowing animal...yeah. I don't mind the odd joke or gag character, but babalities are enough. Not sure I'd even care to see them back.
Animalities are emblematic of the period when MK capitulated to the growing media scrutiny placed on it at the time and got silly all over the place. They left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. And it's best they don't return save for the very few people it would actually suit, like Nightwolf and Liu.

Nah you're not alone. I just wouldn't want everyone to have one. Only characters that have some what of an animal counterpart.
Nightwolf, Kang, maybe Scorpion.
I thought most of the animalities were cool, but there were those select few that are awful. I'm thinking it was pretty hard finding a unique animal for each of the roster in trilogy. There were bound to be terrible ones.
Personally I would like to see Reptile have an animality-fatality. Go full on lizard man and devour the opponent face chew style.
