Should it return or leave? Arena to debate: Goros Lair
I like doing these threads... Anyways, since characters are being debated right now, why not also debate on the levels? There are a good amount of levels as well as the characters.
So, the arena to debate about right now is The Pit.
Now, since this level is THE classic level of them all, being the first level to feature a fatality within it and having several different versions of it, should this level make a return in the next game?
Here's the different kinds of Pit we've seen:
MK1 - Just your average pit, having a giant moon in the background with fast moving clouds and several silhouettes flying passed the moon. When you uppercut your opponent into the pit, you have several of the writers' heads sticking through the spike and it's probably a two story fall if estimated.
MK2 - This is where we're first introduced with Torch and Hornbuckle in the background on another pit. This time when you knock your opponent down, instead of being impaled into spikes, you're just falling flat onto concrete, splattered.
MK3/UMK3 - This is where you fight Kahn last. The pit we have here, there are grinders at the very bottom of the pit, a long way down as well.
We then see this in Deception where it's no longer in 3D, but instead we're treated with a squared platform and in order to perform the "death trap" you must be at the edges of the arena.
Well, I for one would like to see this stage come back. And if the game is in 3D, let's have a few 2D arenas, this being one of them because I really hated the Deception version of this level, I really did. But I would really appreciate it if this level made its return.
So, let's debate. Should The Pit stay or leave?

i'd like to see the pit return but with an option to choose which pit you'd like to fight in similar to the wwe smack down games where if you choose the table match you can choose from single, tag, and elimination table match.

I think they should go back to creating a new one every game. It's time for "The Pit 4".

maybe the next pit could be like the mk movie. fighting on steps and a platform until you hit the dragon logo. the spike would pop up at the last seconds impaling them. not like the previous pits were you know the spikes are there and can see them. this one you wouldn't know. it would look like your going to hit the pavement then spikes pop out of the cracks killing you.

I really like the Pitt, but this arena fits better with the 2D gameplay.

I don't think that you can have a 2D background and 3D gameplay. That seems kind of... I dunno, impossible? What, you step in to the foreground or background and all of a sudden you fall to your death?
No, it should be 3D, but it should be a completely new imagining of the Pit. After all, I still see this new MK game as a relaunch of the series after Armageddon. New plot should mean new arenas.
I don't know what it would look like. The idea thrown out about having it look like the Pit in the first MK movie sounds great.
VERDICT: STAY

Next arena to discuss: The Dead Pool.
This was another great level many have come to adore. The Dead Pool was where we find ourselves uppercutting the enemy into a pool of acid and watching their skeleton move across the screen. (And sometimes watching it go straight into the wall depending on if you're at the edge of the arena)
This level also had one of the greatest background music to have. Many have loved the music the Dead Pool had.
It also made a comeback in Deception. Same with the pit, we're fighting on a squared platform with the acid surrounding the entire border. Shang Tsung watches from above. The same outcome happens when you manage to knock your opponent into the acid, but every time you knock them in, the "Oh uh" sound plays.
Well, I am a fan of this stage because I've always like the music with this level and I hope it does return in future games.
So let's debate. Should the Dead Pool stay or leave?

Love the deadpool, but it needs a face-lift. I thought the one in Deception was adequate, but needed a lot more oomph.

my 2nd favorite arena of all time should retrun, no must return maybe not the next game but should most def come back. keep the music it's always had and the acid fatality but also maybe add a hook fatality. uppercutt the fighter on the hooks watching there blood spray all over the screen and watching the skin peeling as well.

Dead Pool: One of my favorite arenas, but they gotta make those hooks interactive.

i agree... i have what they did in shoalin monks in mind with the hooks...also some extra death traps like a spiked wall or a stage fatality with a big pot of acid to be spilled on the victim would be nice even. i would like it to return but it needs some changes to freshen it up i think.

I dunno, to me, each arena should have some sort of context within the game and story as a whole. They stuck to this in the first two or three MK games and then after that they just sort of went a little random with the backgrounds and every idea just sort of got thrown in.
The Dead Pool was a cool idea for MK2 and Outworld, but would it fit in to the next MK game? It's possible, I guess. But if we're simply talking about the stage itself and disregarding basically everything else that I just said, then I think it's an alright arena. Maybe even top 10.
Still, if we're talking about remakes, I think that the Dead Pool already had it's chance. MK:D's version was somewhat weak and basic looking. but it was a chance none the less.
Personally? There are about 6 or 7 other MK1 and MK2 backgrounds that I'd want to see before the Dead Pool came back. I agree that it has potential but it could also stand to sit out a while longer.
VERDICT: GONE

The next arena to debate: The Subway
First introduced in MK3, this stage we have your average subway with flickering lights, an Ed/Tobias sign in the background and a vicious stage fatality where a train comes and hits you away.
Coming back in Armageddon, you now fight on a platform with both death traps on either side that has your opponent flattened by a train, still looking somewhat the same way as it did in the past.
I was not too much of a fan with this stage as I couldn't quite understand how you managed to knock your opponent on the other side of the subway and when it came back in Armageddon, the death trap was just so horrible.
I think this level should not return. I did not like the concept of it, I did not really like the music that went along with it, and the fatalities could have been performed a lot better than what they managed to give with this stage.
So, let's debate. Should the Subway stay or leave?

There were quite a few Mortal Kombat 3 arenas that didn't hook me in, and this was one of them. I don't know, just never got into it. It wasn't terrible in Armageddon, but wasn't great either. I don't think it should come back.
