I would like that to happen, cuz I dislike the idea of some1else buying the rights of MK and make it crappy without booN and the team.

I'm pretty sure the MkTeam does already own at least a large portion of Mortal Kombat by themselves. I remember Boon saying that, but I can't seem to re-find the proof.

Ed said in the recent OXM interview that he didn't know what the IP would cost but probably couldn't afford it.

i believe midway owns the ip pretty much hands down. ed and co probably don't own any of the ip at all. i base this off an interview i saw where john tobias said after he left midway that he didn't own any rights to the characters or franchise even when he was with the company. comic and game companies are notorius for owning all the rights to any created properties. (this is why image was formed in the 90's for comic creators, and why there have been more indie developers for games.) since mk is the only profitable ip going at this time anyway, i doubt they'd sell it off to the team, or even anyone else unless the company collapses, which i doubt is going to happen. i guess we'll see. but midway probably won't fold.

None of that means they don't own shares in stock of their own company. Which, like I was saying...I know I saw him say they do.
How do you think Wal-Mart stock works were a big fat chunk of the company is "owned" by the people that work for that company, eh? Of course they don't own Wal-Mart as a whole, or even a single store in particular. But they do have stakes in the company, and vested interest to see the company do good.
Owning the IP comes with more fees, obviously more responsibility for the hierarchy(CEO's, Presidents, and in alot of cases, Board Members..ect), and since MK is already established, a network. He'd probably have to scout out everything all over though. Financial team, marketing and distribution team, and all the way down to hiring new testers that work for MIDWAY now, but that test Mk games..all that "stuff" (frankly) would need to be re-constructed had they went ahead and "took over" Mortal Kombat completely.
If they did I tell ya what, we'd see them take a huge hiatus. By the way he answered in that latest interview though, I don't think he really wants to go that route at the moment. Boon and the Team are ready though.
