Yeah, Shang Tsung is dead, but it is likely for him to come back in MK X. As John Vogel said in the past, "No one ever really stays dead in Mortal Kombat.". Shang Tsung's overall gameplay wasn't quite my cup of tea, but NRS more or less had the right idea for him. Character-wise, eh....he sucked. The live action versions are better, and design-wise, his MKDA look is still my favorite. If he's going to return, he'll definitely need some sort of character development. Perhaps if Bo' Rai Cho is in the next game, there can be interaction between the two.

I really hope Shang is back in this game. I hope he morphs too.

ya and hopfully with some SERIOUS fatalities! If the "Joker" one was his secret third like the Kintaro one in MK2 i could handle it, but both his Fatalities just sucked so badly I felt he lost some of his personality

I sure hope he comes back and comes back strong too. After to poor treatment he received from the previous game I would say he deserves his time to shine to reaffirm himself as a prominent villain in the series instead of simply being Shao Kahns bumbling Starscream.


My hope after the last game was that we would see him thriving in the Netherrealm, seeing how it would pretty much be for our favourite soul eater, an all you can eat buffet. And because of his staying in the Netherrealm and his nature he would inherit a more inhuman appearance. Nothing too radical just something a little more akin to his MK3 appearance (white eyes and markings around them) and those creepy claw like finger nails from the MK2 illustrations of Old man Shang.

Bottom line if they bring him back they better do him justice instead of letting Quan Chi out shine him every step of the way. I like that bald bastard but I am really getting sick of him and his smugness being 10 steps ahead of everyone.

I had hooked up the n64 the other day and played trilogy with him...gah his still my fav villain but at the same time I miss his morphing powers. He owned so much and this is the next big gen systems I don't care if he does it behind smoke or a curtain I want his morphing back real bad. Also they should give him retribution as far as how things ended for him in mk9 I hated it plus I want to see his ending actually happen where Raiden recruits him! Seeing him on the side of good would actually be awesome in my opinion!

I think Quan Chi makes the cut, not Shang Tsung.

I wouldn't mind both tho, as they are both very different sorcerers, one Necromancer and one shapeshifter.

Except they've really already said that characters will return. They said it'll be a split between new and veterans. Some "dead" characters are coming back or we'd be stuck with the shit characters from MKDA-Deception to fill the void of "returning characters". Shang Tsung I see coming back, except I really hope he's only an old man. No younger self crap, just an old man.

I'd be 100% fine with Sindel getting brought back to life during the course of the story as one of Quan Chi's undead servants, then having her stab him in the back at some point down the line and having her whisper in his voice "Hello".

I like Shang. Gameplaywise he was cool to play in MK9. But his fatalities were a bit dull. In MK3 they were awesome! (spike carpet and soulsteal leaving nothing but a wet green skeleton all slimy)

Storywise he is quite weak as well. He got a boss to report to, in other words, an underdog. It would be nice if he got turned into a reclusive madman living in a hut in the forest :) (like a witch!...or not)

Assuming that they are even going to attempt to retell mkda, it would be damn hard to do it without Shang Tsung. But who the hell knows if that's even an option with all this skewed timeline fuckery going on.

NRS would have to redeem themselves hugely for fucking up Shang Tsung. After those two stupid idiotic fatalities in MK9, I lost all interest in him.

I'd rather want Ermac to have the Soul Steal that he was supposed to have in MK9.

Bring Shang back and give him his MK3 Soul Steal fatality. MKDA Primary as one of the costumes and a new variation of his MK3 costume as the other.

I've always liked Shang's "nefarious underling" personality. For that reason I want him in the game.

What if he is on the deadpool list. Then we will not see him anymore till the next game. I like him though. I am still confused about some of the ones canned so far.

The only MK he hasn't been in were in MK 4 & MK D, while in MK mk 4 we had QuanChi and Shinnok, im pretty sure NRS will make it story wise possible.

Darius was one of THE worst characters ever created, also hotaru just some generic body guard.

They could be placed along side Hsu hao, worst/bland/generic EVER characters together with Kobra.

There are many fans of ShangTsung, hes been the staple and most of the time the main vilain or sub vilain in the series.

It seems your knowledge about MK in general is very very lacking, stating these generic non loved characters are more popular than ShangTsung haha

Geez creature, I was talking about the other topic with the huge list of what most people wanted to see back in MKX, Shang Tsung was really low on that list, lower than Hotaru and Darrius.

It has nothing to do with the storyline of MK at all, just with other topics on THIS forum.

And Shang Tsung was together with Mileena, Sektor and Stryker low on the list of playable characters in MK9. That is also a fact as i've seen the list.
