That was just a piece of concept art.

It doesn't make sense for Shang to have a demonic form because he's from Earthrealm. I'm pretty sure it was mentioned before, but MK9 confirmed it.

Personally, the only reason I'd want to see him back would be his MK9 ending, where Raiden actually recruits him to fight the menace of God Kang. It was so nuts that it was actually kind of awesome. I have no idea how they could possibly follow up on that considering that Shang is fucking double dead, but still.

Im sure shang will be back. Johnny cage has died loads before and the elder gods (or Raiden, cant remember which) have sent him back.

Johnny should have stayed dead... out of ALL the characters in the history of Mortal Kombat, even before the games we have played, Johnny was the one character the Eldergods allowed Raiden to bring back? He never did anything significant since then... of course it was just so he could appear in MKT.. but still..

If he ends up being in the game, I hope to high hell that he has the Soul Steal fatality. I was pissed that they rehashed Joker's finisher from MKvsDC and made it his second fatality. I guess maybe because he's had a variant of the soul steal every game, but that's his damn signature!

I agree.. Shang Tsungs Soul steal is his signature fatality.. not having it would be like scorpion not having his flame fatality..

Although for me the last time they made it, they over did it and made it overly elaborate with him jumping on them while they are laying down.. I like it basic.. lift them up.. suck out their soul until they are a dried husk, and then drop them on the ground..

Sad as it may sound. but sometimes i would do Shangs throw in MK9 during the 'FINISH HIM' stage. showed how much i missed the Soul Steal fatality.

Shang is probably one of the few dead characters that I'd welcome back with no qualms. Old Shang head is a fave of mine.

Seconded. Shang Tsung going out with a whimper in mk9 was one of the biggest fucking letdowns in that story.

Agreed... I loved Quan Chi in Mk4... but now I'm tired of him and I want to see Shang take him out and establish who the ultimate sorcerer is.

This topic has been my major concern since the announcement for MKX. NO ONE is a bigger fan of Shang than I am but I have my doubts on whether the sneaky sorcerer will make a return to the roster..

1. He died in MK9 (His death was bullshit btw)
2. He was hardly used for online (He was the only kharacter I played as!)
3. He wasn't present in the MK4 storyline (MK1-3 Shang Tsung/Shao Khan, MK4 Quan Chi/Shinnok)

That being said, if an alternate reality is used for the story mode then any kharacter is fair game. Maybe he could even end up as DLC or an unlockable like Quan Chi was in MK9 (More of a hope than anything else). All I know is he better be in the game or I will be pissed! PLEASE put him in NRS!!

I loved his play style, but those button combinations...for the love of god those button combinations were finger grinders.

Very true. Shang is the hardest to master in MK games because he has the ability to become any kharacter. If you know how to play well as other fighters then he is a force to be reckoned with.

I hope Shang Tsung is back! And i don't think im alone on this one...

I also want to see him back, and not as good boy. Exists in Story Mode spent a great opportunity to explore it. Shao Kahn withdrew his powers. How he would fare as a mere Sorcerer Moral? Without the various souls? It would be interesting having to turn around and just having a single skill, try to regain power selling a service or Quan Chi can provide.

He would have several contractors to provide adequate Sektor souls for the Lin Kuei Automatos. Reptile, to restore his people (and it's time for leading a conspiracy Reptile). Quan Chi to bring a weapon they can use against Shinnok (considering he may have already had the knowledge about the Army Onaga). And without knowing Mileena, as could pass for a Shadow Priest and Mileena need a Wizard vs Quan Chi and Shinnok.

Also bring back his MK2 Soul Steal Fatality or give him a new Soul Steal Fatality! I do not want to see his last two Soul Steal Fatalities though, they sucked!

Well, he is sorta a signature character in the sense that he is the sole shapeshifter. And no, Shinnok does not count.

Stepping down or removing him from big bad status? Fine.

But Shao Kahn basicallz YOINKing him into Sindel? Sure, surprising and unforeseen, but below what the character perhaps deserves.

If they do bring him back, I hope they make him resemble Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa. & give him back his morphs!!! & I liked his younger version laugh in MK9. It was good that they discarded his "taste like chicken" line.

Honestly I prefer the Custom MKDA and Alt MK9. Would you also like him wearing an outfit from Shadow Priest.

I like Shang Tsung, but he got rather screwed over in MK9 with Quan Chi slowly taking over his part of the play... that bastard.

So, it would be funny if Shang Tsung came back and gave Quan Chi the same treatment. XD

With Shang being a sorcerer and a series villain mainstay it's certainly plausible for him to return. After E3 and more of the story setting is revealed we can have more to go off of roster wise to speculate.
