Shang Tsung still has lots of potential, even if the "shceming sorceress" thing now clearly belongs to Quan Chi.

"Sorcerer"

Shang Tsung could be a wildcard here. Something like his MK9 ending but with some twists and him trying to get advantage of the situation would be really cool.

That is close to what I had mentioned and is a good idea.

I'm hoping to see Sindel in MKX too even if she wasn't popular, as she would fit perfectly in the variations style of combat and I like the character more than any other edenian girl and the Ermac/Jerrod story would be better if Sindel is around.

She would fit perfectly with the variations, but probably not so much with the story, unless Kitana was to bring her back to the good side some how.

Shang Tsung is extremely legendary as hell. He can transform into any kharakter whatsover, even female kharakters. He can steal souls.

You are all jealous of Shang Tsung's huge skills and soul stealing abilities!

Shang Tsung is deluxe and epik.

I would be happy to see this kharakter in MKX!

But I mostly look forward to a Tanya reveal. I feel like Tanya will only be revealed in April, at this point.... IF she is ever revealed to be in MKX, at all lol...

Shang is awesome and classic. His slot would not be wasted. Only thing that sucked about him in MK9 was his uppercut took 3 years to come up, and his fatality with the clown. I actually don't mind that one but at least give him the classic soul steal fatality. His second fatality was nice though.

He was such a badass in MKvsDC and Deadly Alliance. The guy is the reason for Mortal Kombat, we wouldn't have an MK tournament if it wasn't for him, so show him some respect!

I've always been a fan of his, will welcome his reappearance for MKX, since the game is catering to classic MK1 and 2 characters so far. But IMO Quan Chi is more powerful. I'm always torn between the 2, I like them both equally.

Yeah, I'm not understanding the whole anti-Shang Tsung sentiment out of nowhere, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

I definitely wouldn't call him a waste on the roster. But I can understand people's gripes with him being "overused", but to be fair, those same people better also be complaining about Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

My problem personally is half and half. I'm half not thrilled because yes, he is mainly overused. The other side of my argument is 90% of the time when he pops up, he's used BADLY. He went from being a strange, mystical powerhouse to Kahn's bitch to henchman status then back up to half of a bad-ass, brutal duo, then dead then back to bitch ass henchman. And his fatalities over the past several installments have also been incredibly lackluster. Based on those performances alone, I feel they have no idea where to take him creatively and I'd rather a new character or a post-Trilogy one to take his spot rather than him just being here because he is who he is and he's been around forever. If he's included, they have to wow me or I'm gonna roll my eyes and say it's a wasted spot compared to how creatively inspired everyone else seems to be.

However, if they can gladly prove me wrong then whatever, I'll end up being happy (I guess) with his inclusion and happy that his fans are happy. But as for right now, that's why I am at least not thrilled. Can't speak for everyone else.

Amen! Great comment KenshiMaster16.

If Shang is included, he needs one of his variations to have that giant flaming snake from the MKd intro.

I'm a 30yr old who's been an MK die hard since MK1. But I still much rather QuanChi. It's the developers' fault tho. QC is everything Shang was supposed to be. An MK sorcerer should fight like an evil version of Dr Strange/Zatanna. And sadly, that's QuanChi, not Shang Tsung.

Quan Chi is jealous of Shang Tsung's hair.

Quan Chi is mad at a possible Shang Tsung reveal.

I like both of these kharakters, by the way. lol

You have a point there. They had a nasty habit of doing that in the 3D era, giving storylines and traits to new characters when they could've easily been given to already established characters instead of coming up with new concepts.

A lot of what makes Quan Chi who he is could've been given to Tsung and have made him even more of a threatening badass.

They can certainly make Shang a badass even with taking his "enlightened" ending from MK9. Have him steal their spirits wink

NRS obviously is not honoring what the previously said about not including the bottom 5 least used characters from MK9

Since

Shang Tsung
Mileena
Quan Chi
Kano

Maybe they looked at them and decided to prove that they could make them interesting.

Quan Chi is the only one of the bunch that interest me. I understand Mileena's importance to the story but she is not my cup of tea

That is probably the only way I would be happy with his inclusion; some new powers/special moves, fighting alongside some of the good guys, or atleast trained by one of the good guys, only for the purpose of offing Liu Kang (if he is presumably the boss) because of his new-found Godlike out-of-control power.

Now that is a storyline I could get behind after all the henchman/bitch bull they've been shoveling our way for a while now.

I blame him not being played much in mk9 on two things. Finger crunching combos and sub par fatalities.

The fatalities are a minor gripe to most, but seeing how some casuals pick favorites off of looks and fatalities, Tsung was definitely leaving a lot to be desired(just couldn't leave that joker fatality in the past).

As far as his combos go, I believe Shang Tsung suffered from some of the worst button layouts in MK history. I enjoyed learning the character, but pulling off combos with him could be such a bitch.

I fucking love Shang Tsung but he's one of the characters that I only want playable IF they're MK9 ending is canon/semi canon.

The others being:

Ermac
Kabal
Liu Kang
Johnny Cage

Just went through the lab with him.
I forgot how much fun he was. What I didn't forget is how he leaves my thumb a bit sore.

I couldn't play with Shang online because of the lag. He is a slow character and his combos require some stiff arrangement of buttons, wasn't working well with lag. Same goes with Mileena actually.

If Kabal had been only one to gain Shao's power out of all the other endings of characters that also did, then I'd say yes to him. However, they won't take his ending as canon. I doubt he'll be in playable in the main roster. Storywise and DLC, he has a chance.

For your sake, hope he's in.

Thanks! But honestly I don't really want him over most MK4-A characters, it's just his ending (without the killing Kahn part) with him getting a major upgrade and looking like a Sith Warlord would be cool in this game as long as he got some extra specials.

I remember how badass Shang was during the arcade years. I was 12ish when MK1 was released. I still love Shang, but I just think Quan Chi is harder and more evil. I found myself rooting for Quan Chi during the DA intro battle with Shang. When Shang returns his story should reveal him to have found a way to become way more powerful. He should have his own agenda and not be aligned or afraid of the big boss(s) at all. Give him back his morphing ability. Create some epic finishers for him. These are the ingredients in making a badass Shang Tsung once again.

His design in his MK9 ending is pretty cool and he could use more specials as you mentioned.

Im pretty sure it was said the 5 least used characters would not make it in to MKX. And i believe he was part of them.

Anyways, he should not be in MKX. I will be pissed. He is overused and a boring villain. He has been outdone by Quan Chi. He is now the best sorcerer in MK. He is not fun to play as. Theres just so many reason why he should not be in. I would rather see Mokap.

Shang Tsung was one of the last characters I mastered. Just because I could tell he was a commitment, lol.

But he had some really great, diverse combos once you got the basics down. Especially if you started throwing in the Soul Steal. The MK3 style fireballs were also a blast.

And lawd...

...those fatalities. sad

Probably all those "least played" characters were more about the character playing poorly (like many comments said, Shang Tsung had horrible button outputs, something that they seem to be fixing now as the close-far moves now are decided using a direction AFTER the move combination that is always the same), so I don't blame them from using them again and trying to get a better experience with a new moveset and design.
