Yeah if Kano can be made to have 3 variations Shang can too. If Kano can do something in the story Shang can too lol Idk what but im sure it would be at least as memorable as whatever Kano is going to do in this game.

Skull Fire- pertaining to his fireballs.

Soul Embracer- includes soul steal special to morph, throws souls, etc.

Enlightened- something to do with light and spirits.

The debate about Shang Tsung and QuanChi reminds me of something in Superman Comix. Superman's very first Super Villain is a mad scientist called the Ultra-Humanite. Lex Luthor didn't appear until 2 years later (1940), yet Luthor is a globally recognized icon, not the UH. I think it simply boils down to the KooL Factor. QuanChi is just a much better character, esp within the "Scheming Sorcerer" trope.

I personally hope Shang is Out, becuz I want his rising/falling fireballs to go to Kai (I know it's a stretch. LoL)

But if ShangTsung does make the cut, one of his variations needs to have that Fire-Cobra he summoned in the MKD intro video!

I think this could mean Shang Tsung might not be playable. At least on the main roster. Shaun makes it sound that, like a purse, they don't need to use Shang Tsung every time for each game.

Although DLC is still a great possibility and hey, it's not outright deconfirmation either.

I personally wouldn't mind if Shang Tsung sat this one out though.

Yeah I wouldn't mind if he just had a short part in the story. Old man rebuilding his power for the next game. I wouldn't mind if he was on the roster either. I think they could do a lot with the character, killing him off sucks.

I do remember a tweet long ago by Shang's MK9 voice actor Andrew Kishino that he won't be reprising any voices in MKX. So I think that's two bullets to the Shang Tsung in MKX hypothesis .
