Wanting a new character who happens to be gay and avenge their same sex lover is fine, if NRS wants to do that, I support it. But you can't just call people brainwashed because they disagree with you.
And yes, close this thread, please.

If you use a term invented by tumblr slacktivists, however, you imply, perhaps unintentionally and inaccurately, that you are one of them or agree with their philosophies, and there's an inherent fascistic "I demand that you behave the way I want or else" between the lines in everything they say and do.
And opposing them and their toxic politics sometimes means opposing the twisted little terms they invent for themselves to use on others like a weapon. That's where I stand.

I don't frequent tumblr, but I've been there before and certainly know it's reputation. Personally, I feel like the term has grown far beyond it's source of origin, so for me that's largely irrelevant, but I completely understand why the source would bother you.
The language may be loaded, and if that's your real issue, then I can respect that. My issue was mainly as I explained it before; the societal behavior and attitudes that necessitated the language to begin with. That's the part of your original post I took issue with.
As for the original topic, I'm kinda confused as to why people keep calling for the thread to be closed. Yeah, it's an old idea that's been talked about ad nauseum and the topics meandered a bit, but so what? If you don't like the conversation, there are plenty of other threads out there. No one's forcing you in to this one.

Dark, the person the second post was directed towards, has interjected a few times in this thread to say that they're gay and disagree with me (apparently they're okay with the status quo). That's what I'm referring to.
I didn't say anyone was brainwashed for not wanting LGBT characters in the game. I said someone was brainwashed because he believes the women of MK only started looking overly sexualized in MK9.
If you don't want to participate in the thread, leave it.

I might as well just do that, argueing with you is a pointless endevour.
I really advise everyone else to do the same.

Dark being okay with the status quo speaks more to his sense of perspective than anything else.

Granted, the women of MK have nearly always been ridiculous (Trilogy's ninja attire springs immediately to mind), but MK9 took what was merely silly and made it completely stupid. To the point that the casual fan could have been forgiven for thinking MK9 had been a Tomonobu Itagaki joint.
Why is this constantly a thing that needs discussed in the context of having to be included in a Mortal Kombat game? I get that entertainment media in general can stand to benefit from gay/bi-sexual men in prominent roles but...why force it into MKX when it's not even a heavy character drama type of narrative?
I mean do we see evidence of Reptiles sexual orientation? How about Sheeva? Or Stryker? Or Jax? Or Sub-Zero?
Why does it matter in a damn fighting game?

The whole "force" thing. I don't really get it. I haven't heard anyone say "put this big elaborate homosexual storyline in even though MK's story has never emphasized romance in a major way."
There have been some romantic references at least. Liu Kang / Kitana, Cage / Sonya etc. I don't think it'd be a bad thing if they had this sort of reference or just a character that was a perfectly normal, non-stereotype that just happened to be a lesbian or transsexual or whatever.
Maybe it's just an off-hand reference about a character that lost his husband or a "they used to be together" comment or whatever. Would that be a big deal? Again, I don't think anyone's asking for a big production.
Some people seem exasperated that the topic keeps coming up, but I don't get the impression that anyone's trying to push an agenda, or force NRS to do something for equality's sake or some moral imperative. From what I can see, it just kinda seems like a dude or two saying "hey, ya know what I'd like to see?"
Maybe I'm just forgetting the rest of the thread. I guess I just don't see the aggression behind the suggestion or any call to arms to force this idea awkwardly in to the game.

There's finally been some games released over the past few months that I've been interested in so I've been frequenting other communities while I've been in lurk mode here if I'm here it all. No I mean I get it, people need something to talk / speculate / argue over to pass the time. It's interesting to see what topics get covered at various MK sites. To your point I'll say this. It's not that I'm opposed to having more character development in an MK game where something like exploring a character's sexual orientation makes more sense, it's just that to sort of shoehorn it in inexplicably feels hamfisted and almost exploitive. Like it or not, some characters just aren't high on the priority list of receiving proper character arcs and development. They're more supporting characters.

The only reason that relationship can't be said to follow a character arc is because MK9 is poorly written and starts forgetting about and dropping plot threads during the last 3rd of the game.
Otherwise, it almost forms an actual developing plotline. Johnny goes from aggressively hitting on her to fighting and respecting her, to rescuing her while asking Jax if it's okay to date her, to sharing status as last survivor with her, to fathering her child in the sequel.

Calling it now, Smoke and Subzero. They had more than a friendship going on a little somethin somethin. Tell me you don't see it in the story mode. Oh also, calling it. If this is the younger subzero in MKX, he's gonna try to save Smoke from the netherrealm. He'll at least mention Smoke in the story mode.

No, it was just sexualized male fighters in general.
OP in that topic said why can't we get more of them in Fighters.
A few late people mention MK though.
A few didn't care for homosexual men in fighters.
And the rest was basically everyone drooling over a picture of a concept art of a fighter that basically looks like Assassin Creed with no pants on and his insane long penis wrapped with cloth.
Overall, this topic here was more civil than the one on /v/.

What do you expect from /v/?
At least /v/ is tolerable enough to browse. As opposed to /tv/

MK threads are the some of the best on /v/, aside from the occasional Capcomfag
