But if he does return then he should leave Shang alone. The MK team had something good going with Liu vs Raiden ending for Kang. THat was good. If he returns then this is the route they should take. Otherwise kill him. Put him in a blender i dont care he needs to die. For real not like Deadly Alliance.

No, that would be one retcon too far. I was the same as you in that I didn't care for Liu Kang, but as soon as I saw that neck snap, I was a fan all of a sudden. These feelings are normal, and the fact that we want him back now is exactly why he can't be brought back: it was a powerful + unexpected plot twist for the series. Bringing him back to life cheats the players of an interesting story. His death is a big win for Shang Tsung, and now his character can grow in new ways as can all the characters. Kung Lao suddenly has to take on the role of hero whether he wanted it or not. Earth is vulnerable without it's champion, and so is Outworld without it's Emperor. The realms are now in chaos, and two realms have already broken off from outworld. Neither Shao Kahn nor Liu Kang should come back because that's like the writers saying "We didn't know what to do next, so we returned the game back to status quo."

Sheeva & Motoro is others character that shouldn't be brought back because it cheats Kano of his chracter development by retconning his oppritunistic promotion to general for Shao Kahn. He went from being on death row to general just by making the riht deals at the right time. Bringing those two back to life is like saying Kano wasn't really that clever afterall. Likewise, bringing back Kang and Kahn is telling the player that the Deadly Alliance were all talk and no death!

Nope, gotta stay dead, and no more zombie business either! The writers are just going to have to swallow the pill and declare a new Grand Champion for Mortal Kombat. Is there a belt or trophy for the Grand Champ?

I like Liu Kang. I think he should be in the next game, just not as the hero. IMO, after MKII his job as hero got boring. Pass it on to Kung Lao. He should be recooperating from his Zombie Rampage.

Well, Liu already proved to be a badass being Earth's champion so yes, I also agree it's time to move on. But me, being a fan of his, don't really want him to be killed off. Having him return as a mentor, teacher would be pretty cool but, he does need to retire.

If Liu Kang returns in the next MK, they should give him new special moves as he has the same over and over since MK2. If he's back, I hope it will be in human form.

liu kang is wack because he has hokked chains and he cant even use those as weapons and i think that mk armageddon was stupid because the made liu kang look dead and in shaolin monks he was human so its like someone in the real world died and came back and they should not keep liu kang in the mk games because sub zero took a break shinnok took a break sheeva took a break reiko took a break rain REALLY took a break and kai took a break and then here is liu kang who has been in every single mk game and movies:o

I think that Liu Kang should return...in Mk 9...along with scorpion. sub-zero and all the other "Good" MK Characters. Then they could show the Noobs from MK8 how its done...

I'd rather not have Liu Kang return, as bringing him back would really drag out his story. Given the way they are setting up his current story, I think it's best for him to have his story end by ascending to the Heavens for his soul to rest.

Yeah, I think it's time to retire the Liu Kang character for good. At least for a few games, until his return from the dead (I can see it being like Optimus Prime returning in Transformers) means something. I thought it was a great move when they had the Deadly Alliance kill him, and unfortunately they just undid all of that.

Liu Kang should definitely not be in MK8.

By the way, isn't it a bit hypocritical to use arguments like "Liu Kang is in every game!" against his return, and then be all for Scorpion returning just because he's Scorpion? I'm not accusing anyone here, but the numbers would have to allow for some overlap.

The thing is, Liu Kang has pretty much been the main hero in MK1-MK4, and given his relative lack of development as a character, it can be understood why he isn't liked by many.

As for Scorpion, we know that he's a fan favorite and that Boon wants to have Scorpion coming back in future games. I just hope that in his case, Scorpion can and will be greatly fixed as he's currently fucked up in different aspects.

Agreed, People were frustrated with Liu Kang because he kept being the hero of the series without any further explaination. He despises Shang Tsung in particular, and he likes Kittana in particular. It's really never gone farther than that. His relationship with Kittana is plutonic at best, have they even kissed? Oh, he hates Shang Tsung, does he? Who doesn't?! The weird thing is that Shang Tsung never really did anything to Liu Kang. Corrupt the once noble tournament? Come on, that's not very evil. Meanwhile, you got Sub-Zero leaving his clan and being hunted, helping smoke retain free will, then returning to become Grandmaster with a powerful "dragon amulet," finding a new student that betrays him, then discovering his ancestors, then discovering that his older brother was a wraith all along.

Even Sonya's hunt for Kano was more interesting than Liu Kang, and that old gem has been in a loop for awhile. When people said Liu Kang was the series hero, it was like when people tried to tell you the vanilla ice cream was better than chocolate.

Liu Kang's winning streak felt like a slap in the face to all the interesting characters. Killing him in mafia style hit was the best thing that ever happened to his character. I suddenly felt like Liu Kang was the coolest dude when he was killed by the deadly alliance, but that's why he should stay dead. It immortalizes him as the champion because he never lost his title in a fair fight. It was especially interesting because the deadly alliance was actually dipected as winning [you were beggining to wonder if the bad guys ever would].

The death of Liu kang makes Earthrealm feel more vulnerable. Our hero has been slain! The story arc is too good for someone to just yell out "REWIND!"

I'm with Sub-Zero 7th, have him ascend to heaven as Liu Kang the champion, not weird... freaky... zombie guy.

I'm completely FOR Kang's return! Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade,they all died at the end of Deadly Alliance, but all came back!
But, Liu Kang is the main character of the franchise! The fact that the main character's been dead for the last 5 years is a little...um...WACKED!

LIU KANG should return to mortal kombat alive! LIU KANG is the center of the franchise anyways. He is the chosen one selected by the elder gods to bring peace bak into the tournament. IM ALL FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call me a Kang fanatic, but I think it's time for Liu Kang to return to life. Like he said, Kang's the main character! It would be like killing off Ryu in Street Fighter.
As for anyone who claims, "You can play as Kang in zombie form!", all I can say is that while you can fight as Kang, it's only Kang's BODY. The character himself is what needs to come back. Forget his corpse. We need the actual Kang that has been there since the first game!

In MK8, I think it would be sweet if the game built up to Kang's return.
Liu Kang vs Zombie Kang would make the most awesome boss fight!
Liu Kang vs Corrupted Raiden would be cool as a Sub-Boss battle!

Liu Kang should stay dead and not come back. He's ran his course as "the hero" and he was never that interesting to begin with. His zombie story is lame and only dragging him out longer than he should be. He should settle his zombie business and his soul should move on to the heavens.
