The company is not stupid. They are highly aware ever since MK9 on how much players want stable online play. If they were able to do it, they would.

Is there even a reason for region locking? I don't see one.

So what does this mean exactly? I did NOT get the import edition and I live in the U.S so how does this affect me?
Although I will be taking a trip to Puerto Rico for like two weeks this summer and planned on taking my PS4 and MKX with me, how is that going to work with the region locked nonsense?

It means the game can only work in the same region or you can only play with people online in the same region.
Probably both though.
Probably both though.

So I wont be able to play my U.S purchased MKX on my U.S purchased PS4 in Puerto Rico?

Its more towards imported things, as if you have a US PS4 and bought the EU MKX collectors edition. In your case, it's still gonna work.

Region lock relates to playing online with PS3 / PS4 only.
Xboxes are not affected.
All it means is that if you try to play online, you'll only see North American people.
Puerto Rico may even be classed as North American anyway for online region purposes.

Don't say bad things about NRS, there are people on this forum that will eat you alive if you say anything about their beloved NRS team. Because NRS can never do anything wrong and their decisions are always right.
Region locking shit is fucked up and like I always said and will always say. NRS are not smart enough to realize the things they can do.

The thing is, they made two games with very bad netcode. Lets not even talk about MK2011. Injustice was a slight improvement but far from acceptable. The idea that MKX won't be much different makes my blood boil. I mean, what in the holy fuck is their reasoning behind it? "If they could, they would"? Why the fuck would this be such an impossibility? What is their excuse, please tell me. They have the budget, obviously, cause they are backed by WB and by just looking at the game's content it is clear they have the means of funding it.
So please, do tell. Are they too stupid to write a good one? Are they too stupid to realize they can use good existing netcodes like GGPO? Or is it that they just don't give a shit about the people who have been requesting this for four years and who expect this since it is 2015 and every half decent fighter should have one?

Hey I am with you man, I think they are not smart enough. But we can't do shit about it. Let's just hope they decide to change their mind.
I agree that there is no reason for region lock, especially when we know other games could do it. And if other games which are no match for MKX could do it. I wonder why MKX can't. Other than of course, fuck those who want to play online.
I'm confused, first off OP's link no longer works. But if I remember correctly his tweet said it would be the same as MK9 and Injustice, which WEREN'T region locked. Right?? Or am I remembering wrong?
Secondly, even if the game was region locked wouldn't that be a good thing? Like maybe that sucks for people who live in areas where not many other people play the game, but for me in the U.S isn't that great? Like I'll never have to play scores of Brazilian dudes and New Zealand guys and have lag that is so fucking bad it feels like I'm trying to run underwater. When does a fighting game ever have good connection between two different continents? No offense to non northwest people but I'd rather not play you than play a shitty, laggy, insanely frustrating sub par version of the game with you.
Am I lookin at this the wrong way? Anybody feel free to set me straight. I'm really fuckin worried about the netcode of this game and how well it plays online considering NRS has such an incredibly poor track record. It also bothers me that this isn't a much bigger issue than it is, like people should be tweeting them to give us news on the damn netcode not how many costumes Scorpion has. I mean this could absolutely kill the longevity of the game. What good is an awesome game if you can't fucking play the thing

The tweet got deleted, I saw it embedded somewhere else. But yeah, I agree. Most the time I experienced lag it was either with 1) someone with incredibly shitty service or torrenting way too much stuff or 2) someone from another country.

MK9 and Injustice were region locked for PS3.
Most fighting games nowadays have an in-game switch so you can choose to play people from your own area or the whole world.
And if you live in New York, you'd rather play someone with a good, fast connection from England than Billy Bob from BumFluff Idaho with a $2 connection.
There has never been a single Midway / NRS game with good netcode and it doesn't look like they are going to start now.
