I have a question to those, who understand how the game business works.

Basically, I wanted to know, why is it that publishers don't want any info getting out about a high-profile game they are publishing, until the game get's closer to it's release date? Such as with the MK franchise.

Because the game will be crap and they are sure it will be, otherwise they'll release info pics and even beta versions to test lt like for example Star Craft, Diablo, all the blizzard games, Quake etc.

Either that, OR they want to make a "grand entrance" and explode with a ton of cool shit all at once. Sometimes companies like us to wait in anticipation. Thus the reason for "teaser trailers" when it comes to movies.

Latest update from Boon's twitter said he was in an airport at 1:00am, so that could indicate he's on his way to a conference to give a presentation. Not a guarantee, but it's a hell of a possibility for an upcoming press release.

I think it's also safe to say there will be no Noob.com prior to the press release. For the previous game, the site's main purpose was for viral campaigning, and it's WAY too late in the game to be doing that. That should have started up in January.

As for why there's no news, my only theory is that the next installment is based on a gimmick that will probably piss off the core fans. I'm almost certain that's why the press release came so late for MKvsDC: they knew there was going to be a backlash (I think tomorrow will be the 2 year mark for MKvsDC's news release). I hate to say it... I really fucking hate to say it, but the fact that there's been no news yet may mean we're looking forward to a reboot after all.

If people think I was angry at the notion of MKvsDC, I'm going to enter a whole new universe of "pissed off" at the revelation of a reboot. MKvsDC was like a bad flu; I didn't like the situation, but I knew it would eventually be over and things would return to their proper course.

But if a reboot happens, the series will be permanently set in a different direction. Mortal Kombat Armageddon will be deemed the last genuine installment of Mortal Kombat.

Try reading that previous sentence again without throwing up in your mouth.

It's only April 16th... which means that we still have two more weeks of April left. Therefore, we could get something around the next two weeks, or wait for E3 to happen... whenever that comes I don't remember its date.

I'd just be patient, I like the fact that there really hasn't been official news yet, why rush when you have plenty of time to get the game worked on to where you want it?

They are probably just missing their deadlines.

Remember, God of War 3 took 3 years to make, so if we want a MK that doesn’t suck, they should push the release date to 2011.

Yeah, I don't think it's because the game sucks or anything. I just think that they're holding off until E3. As for the lack of a viral campaign, who knows... Maybe that's not the route Warner wants to go. I can't say that I blame them. I've never been an overly large fan of such campaigns.

Still, I get the feeling that we'll see a grand entrance for the next game. We just have to be patient. I'm holding out hope for a magazine cover and story before hand, but that's looking rather doubtful at this point.

On the other hand, the lack of any sort of hint or fanfare either means that the team is absolutely buried in this game, trying to get stuff ready for E3, or WB doesn't seem to want to put any marketing muscle behind it just yet. I somehow doubt that a game that's been such a consistent seller would be purchased, only to get the cold shoulder from the publisher that bought it.

I'm not worried about a reboot. If it happens, it happens. Personally, I wouldn't mind getting away from the Armageddon story. No offense to the MK team, but that was some of the worst writing I've seen in the series BY FAR. If they at least recognize that Armageddon happened, destroyed alot, most of the characters etc. I'll be okay with a reboot.

I just need a transition from the past if that happens.

Now, if you mean reboot in the sense of "remake" (and I know, there have been entire threads devoted to the differences between the two) then that'll make me want to projectile vomit all over my computer screen. I don't want MK1 or MK2 all over again. I don't want a game that says nothing in the other games happened yet or any other BS like that.

Its not up to ed its down to warner brothers, they just lifted the lid on fear3 and its rumored that condemned3 is coming aswell.
When WB give the green light the embargo will lift.
Eds under an NDA like everyone else. By the way check out my profile for an incrdible drawing by the guy who did the renders for mk.

I wonder if Ed is even in charge still?

WB might keep him around as a service to the old-school fans, but WB might be making all the creative decisions.

E3 is from june 15-17 I think the reason why we probably haven't heard anything yet is because the game is not going 2 b release this year. Because i seen a trailer recently for a game that is going 2 b release spring 2011. So how can they release a trailer 4 a game that's coming out next year and the mk team haven't yet release a trailer 4 a game that suppose 2 come out this year i dont understand.

Yeah I don't think MK9 will be released this year anymore either.

Good and bad I guess. Good, because they will make the game superior. Bad because I am impatient. Haha.

Just doesn't make sense to have a game come out at Christmas time and not show ANYTHING for it by now. I would guess we aren't getting MK9 until Christmas 2011.

Oh, and if its NOT a reboot/remake, I will be sad. I am sure I am the only one who thinks this though.

What the hell was Ed Boon on about when he said "I've got some great ideas for noob.com" and "Not long now..." then?

It does my head in sometimes. I just want some concrete news and not stupid rumours.

The reason it's taking long is because they have to make a new fighting game by december, and I think there trying to put a lot of work into this time so there not ready to release anything.

Im sure ed and the mk team are in charge of development but its wbs money they are playing with so theres an added pressure now that they wouldnt have got from midway.
Warner brothers will demand quality, ed even mentioned on his twitter about demonstrating the game to wb executives.
After quality like batman arkham asylum, fear and condemned thats a publisher that demands quality from its studios lets see if the mk team can handle the pressure.

Thats true, they wouldn't want MK to be an embarassment for them and ruin their reputation.

Still think E3 is a bit unlikely. Unless there's word of a 2011 release, I doubt we'll get first info in June. I've just never heard of a game being unveiled less than half a year before release.

the fact that they are too busy to throw together teasers is good enough for me. I dont care how many people know of it or buy it, as long as it stays afloat and its solid. there will only be a small core of good players anyways.

numbers dont matter, only for continuity, which is important. But how well the game sells is not how good it is. I just want a solid game.

this is a good thing.

I'd gladly take a 2011 release if they made sure to get everything done well

They got the resources so what they need is the time so there's no excuses.

Hype it too early and by the time it comes out, people will be a bit bored. Hype it up too late, and there's no time for word to spread, people to get hyped etc. I feel they're going to be showing something soon though.

In my opinion, a reboot is exactly what this game needs, but have the reboot coincide with an ending from Armageddon. I don't think Ed would just leave us hanging at the end of Armageddon and never tell us what really happened.

Of course, even if we never found out what did happen, I wouldn't be too disappointed. I didn't really like where the story was going after Deception.

Reboot all the way.

I don't really think that it's the fact that they don't have time to ready it, I just think that they want to have a certain amount of info to release, and I'd imagine they would want to make the teaser much better than MKvsDC's teaser. Plus, you know Ed wants to keep us fans in suspense.

true,,,

Ok i still do not think a reboot is going to happen. Id like to say tha tmuch before continuing.

If the series was going to or is going to be rebooted. Now IS the time. while its possible to give a sense of closure in a massive destruction. Many characters can be killed and all feuds can be brought to an end.

Now if they are going to SIT on it and just do a Re-immagining. and THEN return to the story when the creative juices are going. I am ok with that aswell.

Either way, if the series is going to get a reboot. We better get a final CG cutscene. I want to know how everybody died. and I want MKA biographies.

Even if its just on the Kollectors Edition. Il buy 2 of them i dont care.
Boon better not drop the ball on this or Theres gonna be a HUGE backlash. i know its not possible to please everybody, but be delicate.
