DLC has done wonders for the overall roster balance IMHO.
Gonna go for 76.
Solid mix of returnees (bit special forces heavy) who look fantastic, great new characters, couple of awesome guests. Only shortfall for me still is post-trilogy lite and a couple faces we could have lived without (Jax).
I'm generally happy with the roster now - the inclusion of Tanya seemed like generous fan service after months of radio static on 3D era.
Just still feels a little sad guys like Fujin, Havik, Reiko have missed the cut. Yes, ok - you can substitute just about any [missing character name], but the entire trilogy cast came back just 3 years ago, so they haven't been out of action long, and a little break seems almost a relief. These three are long requested, Reiko and Havik have been especially built up in the comic, so it's a big shame to see they haven't made the roster or first DLC.
I'm hoping for a second wave, but even if we get 2 more DLC characters, I'm expecting to see the inevitable missing trilogy characters who casuals will tweet Ed to death about when MKX finally hits shelves. Meh. Anyway, overall this is a solid roster now.

I'll give it a 75/100
Overall its a very solid roster. Some great new additions along with the standard MK staples. A few head scratchers peppered in. I believe its a bit short on villains and does no favor to fans of the 3-d era games. Some glaring ommisions to be sure, but solid none the less.
Can't wait to play!

I'd give it a 70. Pretty solid amount of characters that I like, and even the ones I don't care for look like they'll be fun to play as. Drawbacks would be too many dead characters returning and the cast being far too heavy on the Special Forces side.

65 before DLC. With DLC bumps it up to a 70.
Too much clutter in terms of Special Forces, too many good guy families (would've preferred an evil one or two if that is the route they wanted to take) and too many dead characters from MK9 back too soon and playable.

+ All of my favorites are in, looking and playing better than ever.
+ Best newbies in a long while.
+ Good mix of characters.
- Returning dead characters (Kung Lao and Kitana could have been left out for a while; it doesn't even seem like they have any story relevance).
- Would have enjoyed seeing a reinvented Fujin or Reiko, or even Havik, in place of some of the resurrected.

95 for me. My two mains are in as Johnny Cage, and Kano. New characters like Cassie, and Takeda. The only things that would have made it better would have been Reiko, and Fujin as playable for me.

Ha, this!!
Also, like poster above, I would have taken a hit on Kitana (my main) and Kung Lao staying dead to see re-imagined Havik, Fujin etc. Would have bumped the roster upto a near perfect 95 for me.

I'd give it an 80.
However, if Baraka is playable then it's a perfect 100.

The only changes I would make would be taking out Kung Lao, Kitana and Jax. Jacqui would still be in it, they can say she was born before 9.
I would replace the three from above for: Fujin, Havik and Baraka or Rain.

If Havik and/or Fujin makes a magical appearance. - 10/10.
Other than that, 8/10. Jason and Predator bumped it up for me.

I'll give it an 80. I don't like Sonya or Jacqui and if they were replaced with Havik and Fujin this would probably be my favorite roster.

20.
Worst MK roster ever. Boring old characters, insipid new ones. More crappy guest characters. Paid DLC from day 1.

I'll give it about 25/100
And I'll try to explain as much as I can why.
Since I'm always being negative I'll start for once with the positive.
+ Interesting new characters(Kotal Kahn,D'vorah,Ferra/Torr)
+ Shinnok looks amazing, he deserved to be in this game and they get a plus for that.
Negatives.
- Lacking variety.
- Too much SF characters.
- Roster doesn't have characters that were supposed to be there, characters that survived MK9, characters like Cyrax,Baraka,Sektor,Sheeva etc...
- A game about off-springs of characters we like and the son/daughter of Liu Kang is no where to be found.
- Only ONE character from the 3D Era on the initial roster who wasn't playable in MK9.
- Some characters are unimpressive in design. Jacqui is one, actually she is number one.
- Surprising... Surprisingly bad.
But hey, let's look at the bright side, Predator is in so I don't even know why I'm rating a roster I like.

Why is Jax in this game? Do we really need three members of the same family in a fighting game? Why is Jax in this game? This edition should be called Mortal Kombat Special Forces Family Feud. Why is Jax in this game? Sonya should've died during childbirth.
-10 each for no Fujin & Havik.
-10 for Jax.
