I laughed pretty damn hard at that.

Holy shit. Boon can be ruthless...
Rain never even made Mortal Kombat 9 and that was basically Mortal Kombat Trilogy so the chances of him making Mortal Kombat X when Ed Boon says it has the most new characters of any Mortal Kombat game are practically zero.

He made it as DLC, actually.

Rain was always a stretch to expect to be in sadly. Boon just sees him as a joke character. I saw this tweet as well. The person he sent the @ tweet to is a die hard Rain fan. So he could have just been trolling someone he knows that loves Rain.

Ed Boon didn't deconfirm Rain as much as he took a fun jab at CDjr (who was one of only two tournament players who had ANY success with rain).
But it's not like Ed needed to deconfirm Rain. I mean, it's Rain. I like the character, but he never had a snowball's chance in MKX.

Obvious poke at CDjr. C'mon guys, don't take Ed's twitter so seriously.

You people need to stop. He was poking fun at the other user and wasn't meaning anything except to be funny. There was nothing horrible about what he said, nor did he deconfirm him. So everyone jumping on this "YEAH YOU TELL 'EM BOON!" bandwagon can shut it. He knows Rain has fans, which is why he ended it with a question mark targeted toward the guy who played as Rain in the tournaments.

But I thought you were Rain's biggest fan? How can this be?
Anyway Raiden doesn't show a lightning (from above) move in his moveset and I give Nightwolf like 0.0% chance to be in X, so that gives Rain a little more chance.
Was there only 1 player that played as Rain in the tournament? Or were there only players for each character one?

To me this tweet confirmed Rain rather than excluding him. My educated guess is that he will be DLC in worst case scenario.

From what I know the guy was a HUGE Rain fan, that's why he played as him in the tournaments, which is also why Boon was teasing him with that statement. It was harmless. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Rain DIDN'T make it, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if he did. He's one of those characters that seem to be stuck in the middle. But him being in MKX is not this impossible feat some of the users on here are trying to make it out to be. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the DLC MK9 characters returned sans Freddy since they sold pretty well. Either that or he could once again be DLC, still, he makes the cut "like a boss".

I'm going to sound like a broken record, but oh well. With the limited returning character slots available I don't see why Rain or some other characters will return. Especially Rain though. He was cool in MK9, but he'll be sitting on the bench this game.

I personally think it's too early to be declaring who will or won't be returning for this game. If most of the dead characters actually stay dead then that leaves room for characters who are still alive that were in MK9, even if Rain doesn't return, it improves the chances of surviving characters that aren't poster boys or poster girls. But I'm sure a whole host of the supposedly dead characters will somehow be resurrected and thus taking up spots.

I am a Rain fan but I am happy if he returns or not. I am neutral about it even if Ed Boon is trolling us.

This. Clearly a jab at the rain enthusiast. Can't really be taken for or against Rain.
