While I'd certainly prefer playable for these characters... fightable, and with a new look in many, if not all, cases. (Depends if you count the revenent look as "new" for ones like Sindel, I guess) is still good, imo.

Chances are very good we'll also see them as fightable in the living towers. Chances are decent they might even have hidden fights in areas like arcade mode. Chances are good they'll eventually get added to MKX Mobile (which is a much simpler game overall, and since it's freemium, likely to have a lot of enticing characters added for quite a while). And if we're super lucky, they may even be playable DLC somewhere down the line for the console versions. Tanya already gives credence to that hope.

And frankly, lets not forget... this game has a history of non-playable, fightable only NPCs. Reptile. Jade. Noob. Smoke. Noob Again. Does anyone act like Reptile wasn't an MK1 character? Like Smoke and Jade weren't MK2 characters? No.

It places these characters at a level below playable characters, but a level above just a cameo. Which I like. I consider them "in the game" now. Even if not playable in the game.

If people want Rain, him being DLC in MK9 should not be the deciding factor for NOT having him again. If so, then they should have just added him to begin with.

Tanya also has no variations and we know she's DLC. My hopes are low that we'll seen Rain as DLC...But I have a tad bit more faith.

People will hck the pc version and we'll get all the npc's so that's awesome. Waiting on to see if Noob is in.

I don't understand the appeal of hacking the PC version to make them playable when they clearly won't be complete...

It's not like they'll have stories.
It's not like they'll have arcade endings.
They clearly won't have variations.
They clearly reuse pieces of existing characters (Tanya, for instance, is using Kitana's default stance/rig)
They may have a limited pool of special moves.
They very likely won't have X-Rays or Fatalities.
They may not even be modeled with the correct anatomy to have fatalities performed ON them. Since they're in story mode. I mean it's entirely possible (not likely or unlikely, but possible) that when you try to dismember these guys, the game will break.

So what's the friggin' appeal? No new story to be had. No new endings to be unlocked. Broken and/or incomplete gameplay, that clones the characters we have.

It's not like just because someone can hack-unlock the pieces of Smoke they put in MKX you'll have a fully functioning Smoke on par with the one from MK9.

Because there are some people who just want to play as their favorite characters. Simple as that.
Not to mention all the people who keep calling this a "shit" roster want alternatives

But it's not JUST the story that's missing. It's... a half dozen things.

If your motivation is story, you don't get it.
If your motivation is gameplay, you get broken/incomplete.

You're not getting the full picture in either case. Rain seems to be one of the more complete NPCs. Tanya seems to just have a fireball.

I dunno, like I said, I just don't see the appeal... of hacked characters. That aren't fully functioning. If they WERE fully functioning, I'd get it, but if they were fully functioning, they likely wouldn't need to be hacked in the first place.

Let me put it like this: if you were badly craving for a pizza, but there's no way to get a full one...wouldn't you settle for a slice? Yeah maybe it's missing some jalapenos or sth, but all the basic ingredients are there.

Ofc course I'd rather have a complete playable version, but can't be greedy at this point. Take what's there and make the best of it.
