That is a natural phenomenon. Eventually your mind conditions yourself to accept - aka desensitization. And we had, how many games? Eleven? Twelve?
As I said, it is no longer WHAT he/she does to the victim, it's the HOW that matters.

Yeah, it's just a bit odd to think about. I mean, when I saw Cassie's X-Ray, I laughed so hard! I found it so incredibly funny how they just splatter like that! The first thing that came to mind was Tiny Tina from Borderlands 2 going "POP goes the weasel!"...
And then I read online how several people cringed and looked away, because they found it so hard to look at, and I believe NRS might think it is too "gory" to be revealed officially on the internet or something.
So yeah, I'm just as jaded as well. Its a curious thought how we can get so used to looking and something like that.

Aheh.
The problem is going to show up soon. Think about it, MK9 had a twofold
success: mechanics, and gore. Tame gore (hence the dismemberment fatalities), but still relatively above-middle brutality.
Now look at MKX and check what they are doing. MKX is slightly away from the core of MK9 (bare bones: MK9 with enviroment access, and faster). The fatality system is basically MK9 evovled into it's logical end.
BUT: okay, we have holes, internal organs moving, but the fatalities themselves are conceptually not that different. Kotal Kahn's I can see in the MKDA ending, it's not that hard to code - meaning that fatality only partially uses the abilities of the new engine.
On the other hand, Quan Chi's: starts out niiice, then goes downhill. Why was it good the first time around? Because the concept was something that made you cringe.
There are a few factors that you have to keep in mind when designing finishers: time, action etc. and one of them is not drawing out the fatality unless it's building to something ( Shang Tsung's soul slam in MKDA: final stomp), repeats because it is comical (leg rip). This is the first one. The victim swallows the blade, it should have stopepd there, going through it is an instant kill,
imagine this: instead of making a hole in your neck, tilt bnack the head, and make Kano grab the blade and:
1. floss himself to death. Funyy
2. slowly pull down opening up the throat.
3. pull it out and slam it into one of his eyesockets.
4. pull it out and cut his eyes up horizontally.
5. push the blade down, abnd let Quan Chi use magic to pull it through or out.

I totaly agree with that. MK9 had way to many of them. I had high hopes for Quan Chis Fatality, but it is just his first one. So lets see what will be his other one

Exactly how most people reacted towards Kano's fatality.
Me? I saw more than that.
Whoever thought to directed having the camera being shot behind the victim, and showing the guts slapping to the ground at that part. Awesome.
Then the view when showing the opponents face and Kano blast a hole in the head revealing his? Awesome.
To others?
*yawn* boring, another laser fatality.
I do agree, Quan Chi's fatality could had been more. I still like Chrome's idea of having the victim slicing himself down the middle. But people would still bitch about "another split in half fatality".

You are exactly correct.
No one has to fret about becoming a desensitized human being tho. The desensitizing only extends to MK, if these mutilations happened in front of your eyes in real life. You would be feeling "some type of way" that you can be sure of.
But the point at hand made by Chrome: Yes, the task for NRS is to deliver the fatalities in such a way that people can still be awed. Ways of doing so are playing with the presentation; the music, the suspense. And having original content never hurts.
Wow. What started out so promising ended up being just another slice and dice. Don't get me wrong, the sword through the mouth via domination screams Quan Chi...
...but the levitate (where did Quan gain that power?) and verticle slice does not. Was hoping for something a little more...necromatic? Maybe something with a little more flair? Shang Tsung had a domination-like fatality in MK9, and it was infinitely better than Quan's current one.
Oh well, it's only his first Fatality. Hopefully his second will prove more interesting. So far, definitely my least favorite Fatality (followed closely by Ferra Tor's).

Nope, I feel the flavor of the fatality really suits him. It is known that in the old timeline, Quan Chi froze Baraka in mid air so he may have something similar in this timeline. I guess Quan Chi killed one or both Shinnoks and took a skull for it's mimicry capabilities.

hm... but qc freezes him with the power of his amulet, didn't he? qc doesn't have this telekinetic power. it makes no sense.
at least it's better than another "glory hole" fatality.

So I showed the trailer to my friend's over the past weekend.
The fatality happens. I watched one of my friend's closely. Jaw drop. The same reaction I had.
I asked them all before showing the full fatality what was to happen after the mouth impale.
Out of the three.
One guess that after the mouth impale, the opponent will just basically fall.
The same thought I had.
The other two said the opponent will be split in half.
