Because you don't seem to understand how this system works. It's not to reward long time fans or people who put a lot of work in the game. It's there to discourage you and make you pay up. The game also launches with 8 characters less than MKX to make you want to expand your roster.

And NRS gets a lot of flak on the mobile forum for using this exact method with souls and gold cards.

The game's not even out, and we don't know how it's going to work, and you're already assuming shit :-/

But you're a blind MK fan so nevermind
and your just a street fighter fanboy, go away. Go find a forum were you Crapcom fanboys can get together and talk about how boring, slow,and uninspired the entire series is.

My main issue is this (and please forgive the lack of knowledge, if any, because I've only played 2 or 3 Street Fighter games in my entire life and can probably count the total hours of those experiences on both hands);

You start by paying $60 for 16 characters. That's hardly anything. I know we've all mostly complained like hell about MKX's roster and who or who was not included but we still got 24 WITH three variations on top of that. SFV is only comparable to KI which has 18 characters, but they only cost $40. It's a complete ripoff in my eyes.

Then when they start releasing characters, you can either buy them or unlock them. Does anyone truly believe you'll be able to unlock these characters like "the good ol days"? Absolutely not, you're going to have to do some ridiculous grindy bullshit that no one outside of the hardcore SF fans are going to want to do, so they're screwed out of a few bucks to get these characters in a way that pushes some towards actually buying them out of intimidation at the amount of time that would be spent attempting to get them.

That is the kicker and the thing some people seem to be overlooking; they wouldn't even give you the option to buy these characters with real money if unlocking them was fair, otherwise what's the point? At least with MKX everybody is on the same playing field; you test the characters out in the Towers and if you want them, you shovel out a few bucks to get them. If you know you're gonna want every character no matter who or what they release, you buy the Season Pass. Here, they are splitting the fans in two; those who will unlock for free by dedication or those casuals who'll have to fork out the dough and that is what is unacceptable to me. Sure, it's great for the die-hards but not for everyone else. Is it a trivial argument at best? Yeah, a little bit, but it rubs me the wrong way and puts me off of their company and makes me, as the casual, not even want to attempt to play.

lol Come on guys, let's not start a franchise war here. Both are equally reputable franchises with their own positives and negatives.

I've got almost two million koins post clearing the Krypt, it would be lovely if I had some use to them.

I believe players should be rewarded for the longevity of play, makes a good incentive to keep the community active.

It sounds good and generous on paper, but EVERY other game that has incorporated a microtransaction model like this has abused it.

well then, there is nothing to lose, we're still getting ripped off paying for kombat packs and additional character skins, atleast this'll give us something to strive for.

How did the Kombat pack "rip you off"? This is addition content. It appears you just want a hand out. Spoiled gamers with their false sense of entitlement.
