"When Ed first talked about an MK reboot before MK vs DC became a reality, he talked about scrapping the fighting system, scrapping virtually all of the character roster, ending the old era (which is what Armageddon was supposed to do, if I'm not mistaken), starting a new story and doing basically a new fighting game with the MK universe.

The basic implication was that Sub Zero and Scorpion would be back, but there were no guarantees otherwise..."

This is my definition of a reboot too. Start completely from scratch and redo the entire storyline. The continuity has gotten too nonsensical and confusing, a redo that is a "back to basics" type game would be the best way to go about it. I'd like to see about half classic characters and half new characters.

You all have very valid points to give.

I personally would like for it to revamp itself after the events of Armageddon. Virtually all new characters with only about five returning with a roster of around fifteen characters. Sub-Zero (New Champion of Elder Gods), Scorpion (vengeance on Elder Gods), Raiden (fallen God), Reiko (new Emperor), and Shang Tsung (attempting Godhood through souls). Possibly even the new Noob/Sub-Zero creature result (Noob ending) at the end of Armageddon now neutral in life. Everyone else to be all new and deal with the events after Armageddon. Liu Kang is Elder God and protector of Earthrealm.

This way things can start somewhat from scratch, but not completely disregarding the past games. I don't really care how they had Cage return over and over, but I'd like to go forward from that point and continue with something new.

I'd also like for the next Mortal Kombat to be more of a game like Shaolin Monks but more vast with next-gen technology and have the traditional MK fighting as an additional game choice like Motor Kombat, Chess Kombat, Puzzle Kombat and so on to play. The only other addition should be Kreate-A-Fighter again, but have it much more vast in options with no cheesy (Power Rangers, etc.) costume pieces. Various weapon to chose from too, like swords, axes, hammers/clubs, throwing objects (stars, knives, etc.), whips, and spears. Make it difficult to obtain some of the stronger ones in each catagory.

I would like a game like this to be made so that everyone gets what they want and are provided with some variety as well as simplicity. And I'd like to see the characters continue with the Unreal Engine 3 look. I hated the digitalized actors. The actors costumes aways looked cheap while the new ones look very bad-ass. Digitalized actors again would be a horrible idea.

I agree with you for most of that except the weapons and maybe the total re vamp but to do all of what this states would mean people have to compromise things and with this fanbase of selfish critics and newcomers to the series...no one wants to.

Sure, they could have something like a MK 1 & 2, where you start out with the original 7 and get to unlock Reptile, Shang Tsung, Goro and Ermac. Then you transition in to MK2 through the story, and you get the next 10 (since you've already unlocked Shang Tsung and Reptile), then you get to unlock Shao Khan, Kintaro, Jade, Smoke and Noob.

Maybe you keep it 2D, but if it's a remake, chances are you modernize it with the best 3D graphics around. Maybe you don't put 3D movement in (think Street Fighter 4), but you make everything as realistic as possible.

Maybe you can unlock new costumes, new moves for each character, new winning poses, maybe each character will get an extra fatality that you can also unlock.

Sounds pretty cool?

Sounds really cool!

Reboot or remake, sign me up for this.

By the way, you wouldn't know exactly what Jax and Kitana can do because this would be refreshed and revitalized. Johnny Cage may not be a joke kharacter this time.

You also should not get only the same old characters! Many potential kombatants were cut due to limited memory. These concepts can be revisited and included now.

Reflect on these ideas:

Kintaro, not as a Goro klone, but as a kat-person kombatant (with only 2 arms).

Tanya could have been in MK2; a female kickboxer and a masked bald man with hookswords were also cut from MK2.

Jax (as Curtis Stryker) was supposed to be in MK1; Michael Grimm, Tundra, Rokuro and Minamoto were other rejected names for MK1.

Shang Tsung transforms from old to young to combat his opponent; a mirror match is his only other transformation.

Hachiman as another god kombatant (base him on Raiden's original ending).

Ermac re-imagined; Hornbuckle introduced; Blaze/Torch re-introduced.

No real pallette swaps. More martial arts based fighting style move.

There's a lot that can be done with only MK and MK2 this time around.

More ideas for reflection:

Curtis Stryker is not a white cop.

Jade has a staff of carved jade and copper boomerangs (as a homage to her copper fans in MK2) instead on the ugly purple weapns she has now.

Red Sonya as kharacter (as a homage to the only non-ninja pallette swap in MK1).

Jean Claude D'eath as the joke kharacter (since it was the death of the Van Damm project that led to the kreation of MK).

Let your imaginations roam free.

This is what it is or should be: a reboot into a NEW World or & New Story the way it should of been bac in the 90's with our new millennium technology
The story can be redone over to include the New Characters never been in a Mk game as well as the older mk chars, also the Names of mk we heard b4 but never seen the character. This redone mk game can feature all the latest gameplay modes as well as older types of fatalities e.g.
Mutality(different settup from mk sholin monks),,ANIMALITY,FRIENDSHIP,FATAL 1,MERCY!!,FATALITY2 STAGELITY(stage fatalities ),DEATHTRAPS(different settup from mkd/mka),PITS, MUTALITIES-replaces BABALITIES from previous older mk titles.
Remember!! bac in the 90's they didnt know how far the series would go. Plus they had 2 think of stories to bring back chars ppl loved(to make money-popular demand ).As well as try to keep upgradin their games with some of the latest technology we received. I dont want 2 see borin neck stretch fatalities(mk has so much more potential)

Honestly, a reboot is such a lame idea at this point. In a few years, it may be just what the doctor ordered, but for now there are too many loose ends.

We've got the Noob Saibot reveal that's never been paid off.
Sektor and the Tekunin haven't done anything as of yet.
Deception introduced not only a new major villain, but two completely new worlds to develop.
Speaking of Deception, we still need a proper outcome to it's events.
The Quan Chi / Scorpion conflict still hasn't reached any kind of satisfying conclusion. Which is kind of sad for a story started in 1997.
We still don't know what's up with Taven, since Armageddon didn't have any kind of ending.
Weren't Mavado and Hsu Hao gunning for Kano? What happened there?

That's just the stuff off the top of my head, I'm sure there's tons more. Once the current story arcs are concluded and everything's wrapped up, then I'd have no problems with a reboot.

Answer me one thing, Mortalkombatkombatmortal... How in the world can a multality work against one person? You do know that multi means more than one right? And I know for sure they would not bring that ality into the series (Unless it was to be featured in another adventure game) if it's just a fighting game. That would make no sense to alter what it was in Shaolin Monks to make it fit perfectly into the fighting game. It would not make any sense whatsoever.
