MKX Sub-Zeros X-ray attack is a counter attack like Johnny Cages from MK9
Sub Zero's xray attack is initiated in similar way to Johnny Cage's from MK9, which is very irritating because its like a counter. I've hit Johnny Cage's xray very few times because whenever i hit the buttons, the opponent just backs off. I hope they change this and also it did only 31% damage which is quite low for an xray attack.

Counter X-Rays just require good timing. You have to bait out your enemy's attack. Best way to do it is get right in their face and start pressuring them.

Cage was my main in MK9, his X-ray was awesome online. shit in single player though, I think it just reads your inputs.
Countering is not easy for casual players and considering the fact that Sub-Zero is one of the if not the most famous fighter in MK(atleast in my region), he should have more accessible Xray attack which is MK's flashy move just like fatalities.
And also there's no "bones shattering" in his xray attack

I, too, don't dig the counter X-ray idea for Subby, although I loved it for Johnny. The counter fits better to Cage's fighting style 'cause I see him playing the trickster. Sub-zero' s charging X-ray was perfect for him, I don't see why they changed his style.

It'd be cool if each variation had different ways of executing X-Rays, but I think it'd be too complicated. Personally I think, each character should be given two separate X-rays that work differently and have their own unique inputs, instead of the R2+L2 command.
I hate it, when someone attacks from the air and falls in sub-zero his counter, sub-zero missis the target cause the oponent is frozen in the air. I have seen this in the sub-zero versus ferra and torr videos. While with Jhonny cage he always hit the oponent.
I hope they change it

They changed Sub-Zero's X-Ray move back in MK9 as well. Initially, he froze the ground and performed his X-Ray but they changed it to a shoulder charge. As gameplay is tested over time there's a good chance they might change it.
I don't mind that its a counter move, though. Next to SZ, I also played JC in MK9 and had no problems landing his X-Ray. In high level, X-Ray's won't even be used unless you have a significant advantage over your opponent and can take the risk. This game will be no different from what I see, unless they make X-Ray's consume two bars and Breakers three bars

Sub-Boring fans are always so demanding... While they already got everything...
Sub-Zero haunts every freaking MK game and he not only has a girlfriend and brother, he also got a robot suit...
Be glad he's so freaking popular! Other people never get to see their favorites AT ALL.

The problem for me is not that it's a counter-attack, it's that it doesn't have follow up possibilities.
On MK9 you could combo before X-Rays to make a greater splash of damage.
In the case of Johnny, you could easily follow up the X-Ray to have the same effect in a different order.
Sub-Zero's MK9 X-Ray can't add combos before or after the X-Ray, which limits it a lot.
I hope they change it so during the counter stance the opponent is just frozen on touch, but the attack can be released like the MK9 version to perform a charge and initiate the X-Ray. This way it would be like the old version and you could implement it during combos like any other character.
During one of the gameplay videos I saw D'Vorah being frozen when shooting a bucket to Sub-Zero while he was preparing the X-Ray, and I got the impression he charged on release, but it could be just the counter animation once he was hit. I hope they change it so you can combo with it.

Its true that in this state the move has no follow-up possibilities and that is indeed its main downside. Thats why I am hoping that they take X-Ray's to the next level with this game and give each character two X-Ray's, each with different damage outputs, priorities, follow-up options etc. so one can be chosen depending on your match-up before the match

I can't speak for MKX Sub, but in MK9 a parry X-Ray wouldn't have been bad at all. His whole game was basically to frustrate the opponent into doing something stupid. People online would get so annoyed by ice clones not letting them in, so once they thought they had half a shot of getting in, they would do something dumb just to get in. BOOM. That's when a parry Xray would have rocked. Desperate jump in? Bop.
However, it's true that follow-up or lead-in combos would be nice. It's still early though so things will likely be tweaked.

@DVorah
I get that you love to troll Sub-Zero fans, but doing so in this thread just makes you look desperate and obvious. Grow up and go talk about something else. Or better yet, since all you can do is bash other's opinions and ideas, don't talk about anything. You obviously have nothing of your own to contribute.
Yep, I just fed the troll. Fuck me, right?

I'd also like to point out that it's not final. Remember back in the E3 demo Kung Lao's X-Ray had the opponent back off holding their throat instead off bouncing of the ground?
Yeah things can change.

Actually, no it's not.
During this fight (1:15) You can clearly see it isn't just a parry. He lunges forward, punching D'Vorra in the stomach activating the x-Ray.
At least I hope it wasn't activated by the barrel.

Considering that Sub already has an ice parry and MK combo damash exceeds 30%, giving sub an X-Ray parry would be redundant.
I agree with the above user anyway. It doesn't look like a parry.

Actually I did make my own topic, but obviously nobody cared because i'm a newbie.
Ignore newbies and they turn into furious Rock Trolls sooner or later.
And the grow up comment is so pathetic... what is it worth to be grown up? Respect? Ala Putin and all world leaders and politicians? Yeah right. Nobody ever grows up.

Here we go again...
Ok 1, it isn't final. Mileena's Xray was different when the game was announced from what she eventually got.
2, characters might get multiple Xrays for each variation as we've seen in interviews.
3, even if it was a counter deal with it. It's nice to have variety in gameplay and Sub Zero was already a defensive character so it would fit his playstyle perfectly.
Seriously I just can't at all the Subby fans being all whinny about everything all of a sudden. Wth happened to you guys?

I'd like it better if it resulted in a juggle (since it's a counter), because that damage is minimal for what it is and what we see on-screen, imo.
I don't diss too much since it's (likely) a new Sub-Zero. Shit, his fighting style is dramatically different in general, so all the naysayers should think about that as well.
