She had a cool story, and they could have done something really neat with the whole dragon presence inside of her after Bo Rai' Cho saved her. Instead, they decided to give her the "I must betray my friends for Dragon sex!"

They could have easily done something better with her but the ending they gave her, in my opinion, was just shit. And because of that, I don't want her to return as badly as other characters. Might sound weird or dumb, but that's just how it is. I felt they ruined her just by that ending alone, despite it even being non-canon.

I agree with everything you wrote except the hat. Sorry, but I like the hat! If we can have half a dozen ninjas in MK, you can have three people with round, flat brimmed type hats(Kung Lao, Raiden, Ashrah).

Ashrah without her hat? Are you kidding me? Ugh, fans. People who call her a female Raiden over that very different-looking hat shouldn't be taken seriously.

But anyway, I did like how she was treated as a misguided villainess in her MKA story, and Nitara as the good one. Now that was refreshing. And speaking of Nitara, my hope is that if she and her race ever return, that they won't be portrayed as predictably evil. One evil vampire is okay, but she/he shouldn't represent the entire species.

Who thinks Nitara could make an oddly interesting ally for Earth's heroes?

I was actually thinking about Shujinko, as well.

Raiden's interference with the timeline may have unforeseen consequences regarding Shujinko's mission.

We know from the MKX comic previews that Kotal Kahn possesses a Kamidogu. Initial fan reaction seems to have been that either he killed/defeated Shujinko and took it or that Shujinko hasn't been hunting for them in this timeline.

My thoughts are that the major power vacuum in Shao Kahn's absence may have prompted Kotal Kahn to retrieve the Outworld Kamidogu before Shujinko could get it in this timeline. Shujinko, on Onaga's orders, could be out to take down Kotal Kahn.
Perhaps Shujinko actually does bring down Kotal Kahn, and is responsible for the emperor's downfall. I think the story could go down a number of interesting routes here, with Shujinko perhaps being warned by Raiden of Damashi's true nature, or Reptile not being present to host Onaga's soul, or Shujinko taking the Kamidogus for himself and becoming the final boss of the game.

The last part is possible - he would be a surprising return character for quite a few people, and his ability to defeat Onaga and learn the skills of numerous warriors makes him very formidable. It isn't impossible that he could become corrupted, or perhaps - like Dark Raiden - believe that he has to control the realms with an iron fist to ensure their safety.

Rly? Even though it didn't make much sense for her character or story, that ending was the only thing that personally made me give Li Mei a second glance, lol.

As for returning "unexpected" folks I want to return?

It's sad but the inclusion of any the above now counts as "unexpected" - a complete joke and short-sightedness from NRS. These four - first three, at least - should have been automatic shoo-ins for MKX. They are comfortably the most popular 3D era characters alongside Kenshi and should really have been included in MK9.

Kind of makes my blood boil. I'll throw Li Mei into the mix there aswell. These characters really do deserve a chance to shine in 2D.

The other day Ed Boon posted DA..... it could stand for Darrius, Dairou, or even Daegon. All of these characters are unexpected but atleast one of them could make it in. I really hope it is Daegon because I really don't see any of the other two characters returning for a while.

I'll take any of those two even if it means my favorite might miss the game this time around.

To be honest, I don't see Tanya being unexpected. Many did want her in as DLC for the last game, her returning for X really wouldn't be unexpected.

I sorta expect her to be in the roster. If she's not, then I'd say that would be unexpected.

I think that's giving him too much credit. It's more likely a reference to (yawn) the Deadly Alliance, which is far more synonymous with those initials. Much as I'd love for Dairou to appear in the game, even as a cameo, I've long accepted the fact that it's not going to happen in all probability in either regard and it won't keep me up nights. Just gimme Ermac and I'll be happy as a clam.

I think them plus Li Mei and maybe Frost will make it.

I think them and maybe Li Mei & Frost as well as Shinnok and Reiko.

Even if they're not main roster, those 8 seem to be the likeliest of the 3D era cast that could (and in some cases- should) make returns.

Out of the 3D era I'd just want Frost, Shinnok, Tanya, Fujin and Reiko.

Fujin's in for sure. The tweet and the boot pic #6 all but confirms him. Tanya is likely but havent been hearing much about her. Havik hasnt been hinted at all hes a hit or miss. Bo is more than likely in due to the leak and his story ties. He will at least probably be dlc.
