All the characters that died in the MK9 story-mode can sit out of this game. Even though MKX story spans to 25 years. Hope it happens and if it does, I will miss some of them, but so what.

Depends on who you consider unexpected, does Havik count? Id like to see him return. Kabal might be considered unexpected since we saw him die, and id like him to return.

The most unexpected person that I could see returning is Ashrah. IMHO, she has tons of potential and a story to build upon. I think that they could do some really cool things with her.

Kai is very unexpected... and could be revamped into something really cool..

I wouldn't mind seeing Kai in the game if they retconned him. I would like to see him as an unpolished fighter. Someone still learning their craft who was thrust into the fight.

Ashrah. They were really onto something when they created her, IMO.

A demon that seeks to purify herself and uses holy magic? And she's being misled by a genocidal weapon? There's strong potential for her to develop into a knight templar kind of character. That's a pretty novel idea for the MK series. Just get rid of the hat (PLEASE!), and all of the "female Raiden" nonsense will vanish.

How odd would it be for Raiden to have an ally from the Netherrealm against Quan Chi?

Lol I see more in the future. To keep things in perspective, you can't really expect too many returning characters. Why do you guys think they made MK:Armageddon and MK:9 ?!? They jammed packed EVERYBODY in those last two games to avoid age-old debates like these.

If you want the old stuff, play the old games. I'm confident Ed Boon will set the bar fresh, and new with mostly new characters. Give them a chance! Maybe they can come up with characters as popular as Scorpion and Sub Zero, if they don't have to squeeze in 32 of the past characters due to peer-pressure fan mail.

For the sake of the thread. I'm just lucky as hell my all time favorite goon is back. Quan Chi baby.

Try need to be careful about how many new characters they add. I personally would not have more than like8. Every fighting game that has introduced tons of new characters in one game has been hated, except maybe tekken 3.

There is one I can think may surprise people is Blaze. I know some hate him and some like him but if he is in the game and looks better than he has ever before more people may like him more than they hate him this time.

The truth is that all the characters mentioned in this thread so far are way more interesting than almost any character from the first MK games. I'd rather have Reiko and Havik any day instead of same old boring Liu Kang, Sonya etc.

The only original characters that are more interesting than than 3D ones are Noob, Ermac and maybe Smoke. And they're not from the first 2 MK games either. Reptile and Mileena used to have a cult following too, but they haven't been that interesting anymore since they made them brainless lackeys.

I mean, who in their right mind would like to see Jax over characters from the 3D era? What's more to say about Jax in the MK universe? He's a major in the US army, cool for the early 90s.

And Cyrax? This is almost 2015, people are asking "mmm, so how exactly does this cyborg nanobots transformation happen?" Again, cool for the 90s, but I'd rather take a demon from the Netherealm wielding an ancient sword that speaks to her any day.

Kano?? Need I say more? He's fun and a wise-ass but not as interesting as to play as him, for me at least.

I don't really see a purpose with him, unless they totally have new plans for him, but it's not like he doesn't have a chance in returning since all do. I just would like to see everything with Armageddon go away.

What's with the Armageddon hate? I remember that everybody loved that intro when it first came out. The story was pretty good, full of myth, prophecies and MK realms. The fighting characters were pretty badly developed cause they crammed them all in with not much time to individualize them.

But to never want to see that story again? Why? And you're not the first who says this, I've seen more anti-Armageddon opinions lately. I thought it was a good story.

The game came close to me stop liking Mortal Kombat. It was unfinished, the new features did not interest me, the endings were horrible (more horrible thatn Li Mei's Deception ending). The only good thing about it was conquest, but even that had issues because we had a very bland protagonist.

The intro, yeah it was cool, but the game was just so horrible. Had Midway not had their problems, I'm sure it would have been a great game. But it wasn't, and it's a game I don't want to continue seeing/hearing about anymore because of how awful it left an impression on me.

Blaze is a pretty uninspired boring and character, tbh, the effort it would take to make him interesting may as well go to the creation of a whole new character. Also, how is Li Mei Deception's ending "bad"? it was foreshadowed in her intro profile, we might dislike the direction they went with her, but this change gave much needed development to her bland and forgettable character, it pretty much justifies her appearance in Deception.

If Liu Kang was to come in as the fire god, he would have Blaze within him.
