At this point of the story, Quan Chi is at his highest point. He and Shinnok are about to invade the realms with the Brotherhood of the Shadows, and part of that is Sareena. Both Subbies are under Quan Chi's command, so there could be some interesting connections made there.
REIKO
Also part of the Brotherhood of Shadows, we still have yet to see how he became part of that and why he wants Shao Kahn's helmet and possibly throne. Seeing as Shao Kahn has died permanently, Reiko now has a chance to reach for the throne of Outworld, though it would mean to betray his masters Shinnok and Quan Chi, and he might have to fight against Mileena and others formerly loyal to Shao Kahn... or maybe strike a deal with them and help them fight against Shinnok.
TANYA
Since Edenia was never freed from Outworld, I would assume that Tanya is still in Outworld. There are multiple paths she can take - either helping Shinnok and Quan Chi to the throne of Outworld, or ally herself with Reiko to assure a place as queen should he succeed in taking the throne. Both Reiko and Tanya have both be proven to be quite intelligent individuals. so an alliance between the two of them would be a smart choice... of course, due to her nature, Tanya would later betray Reiko and take the throne for herself.
ASHRAH
Longing for freedom from the Brotherhood of Shadows, Ashrah will eventually find the kriss sword Datusha which lies dormant some place in the Netherrealms. As Shinnok and Quan Chi are focusing on taking over the realms, I could easily imagine Ashrah as joining forces with Raiden and the surviving Earthrealmers against the Brotherhood.
BO'RAI CHO
As Shao Kahn has fallen and most of the Earthrealmers as well, both Outworld and Earthrealm are weakened and defenseless against Shinnok's forces. Raiden would of course seek all the aid he can, and seeing as Bo'Rai Cho is Liu Kang's former mentor, he'd be one of them. He could also be the connection Raiden could use to maybe even join forces with the Outworldians against Shinnok.
FUJIN
Depending on your perspective of the situation, Raiden's battle against Shao Kahn could be seen as a success... or a failure. I could imagine someone like Fujin would see Raiden as a failure, having been responsible for so many losses of the Earthrealm warriors, and thus seek to take his place. Maybe he would start out aiding Raiden against Shinnok's forces, but along the way he might see Raiden as too weak to fight this fight and wants to step in instead.
NITARA
Since Shao Kahn is no longer in charge, Nitara has all the freedom in the world to find the orb that binds her realm of Vaeternus and use it to free it from the rest of Outworld. However, she would most likely be entangled into the war between Shinnok's forces and the others somehow, being forced to act to ensure her realm won't be invaded once more. And then she might bump into Ashrah with the Datusha, thus a new rivalry will start from there.
...
Then there are people like Kai, who won't be getting his shaolin training from Liu Kang, since he's dead. However, he could still get a role as part of Earthrealm's defenders.
Havik could easily be a background character, not actively a part of the war, but pulling some strings from behind the scenes, still securing him a place as a playable character.
And on the other side Hotaru would stand, as the realms are being very imbalanced in turn of chaos, so he steps in to make sure order will be maintained, either as part of Shinnok's forces or Raiden's defenders.
Skarlet and Rain would both be on Outworld's side, while Kenshi will aid Raiden, of course.

What about Li Mei? Would she be added 2? Or be saved for the Dragon King saga?

The thing is, Li Mei became important, because of the Deadly Alliance which consists of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung... Shang Tsung is dead. So Li Mei doesn't matter. At least not yet.

Lore wise, it would make no sense, but sure, if they want Li Mei to be in the game, they're gonna shoe her in somehow.

Li Mei is the most uninteresting character in MK as far as I'm concerned. She doesn't do anything for me story wise, move wise, or look wise (she is hot though). I know a lot of people like her and want her back though.

We should get a poll of the MK4-MKD new characters. There's some I really liked, and there's others that have a lot of potential. I just wanna see the consensus of the most requested as of now.

I liked Li Mei's background, but not enough to want her back. She just seems kinda bland overall.
As for Scorpion, he needs some changes. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Elder Gods should bring him back as human, their champion, change his colors from black and yellow to white and gold, his name from Scorpion to Hanzo and, aside from his iconic spear, give his move set a sizeable face lift.
Sure, give him his old name, outfit and moves as a hidden unlockable from story mode or something like that, but I'd kinda like to actually miss Scorpion a little, and I definitely want to see something new with his story beyond wanting revenge. Maybe he gets his family back if he wins?

Gold and white? He's a ninja! And the only REAL ninja in the game! And you want him to be in pure bright colours? WHY?!
Well, and I who thought Scorpion couldn't get any worse, but there you go...

We have yet to see what's happened with Liu Kang's soul. Either Quan Chi has it or something else has happened to it.
As for Sub-Zero... he's dead and his soul is under Quan Chi's control. Which means he hasn't become the Lin Kuei Grandmaster and won't recruit Frost. So right now she is a lose card, like Li Mei.

Exactly, Scorpion is boring, tired, and stale. Kuai liang never had beef with Scorpion in the old timeline and shouldn't have in this timeline either. However, they had to bring up the boring, tired, and stale rivalry of Scorpion and Sub-Zero. They had to keep it alive. I'm a fan of Sub-Zero so I'm definitely bias, but I think Subz suffers because of having to stay tied to Scorpion and his stale arse.
I do think bringing back his wife could spice up his story though. I posted this on TRMK, but had an idea for a woman dressed in black and is a member of brotherhood of shadows. Her name for now is Silhouette. She worked her way up in the ranks of the brotherhood of shadows through strict training. She is biding her time to.reveal her true intentions.
Basically it's Scorps wife. She is kept a secret by Quan Chi. Knowing that one day Scorpion may find out the truth, Quan chi lied to silhouette telling her Scorpion left her and their son to die. Learning this caused her to join the brotherhood of shadows and seek her own revenge against Scorpion.
I feel this could only enhance Scorpion's story. It would release him from the Sub-Zero rivalry and also give him.something to fight for.

How will they bring Kuai Liang Sub-Zero if Sareena learns that Bi-Han had a brother and that she can help Kuai.
Will the cryomancer armor appear in 10?
Plus I hope the hatred rivalry ends between Scorpion & SZ. I want Sareena to be the first to tell Sub-Zero why Scorpion killed his brother after he restores his humanity from the cyborg shell he's consumed in.
Later on, when Sareena told Kuai Sub-Zero everything, he fights Scorpion and eventually he'll learn the truth that Quan Chi deceived him and that he killed Bi-Han realizing he told the truth.
What of Scorpion's son and wife? Wonder what'll happen that when Quan Chi dies either by his hands or Shinnok's, perhaps in one last effort, one of the members of Hanzo's family becomes a brother or sister of shadow.

The look I was thinking of is kinda like Shinobi, but slightly more grandiose, like how a "champion" might look. I thought that it'd be nice to put him on a different path.
To finally have something good happen to him after nine games of seeking revenge and getting duped and seeking revenge against someone else.
As for him being the last "ninja," I thought that maybe having him lose through some sort of treachery and the Elder Gods turn on him, discard him, and he's back to what he was, look and all, with some new machines to rage against.
As for him being a real ninja, in this particular situation, I don't personally care since he'd be transitioning to a new role for one game, as the story takes him back to his regular look and it's available as an alt etc anyways.
It's just an idea. Whatever happens to him, i just want them to be a little bold, even if it's just a temporary adjustment that ultimately doesn't change who he is too much, but still sets his story in a brand new direction.

So you want to remove his one redeeming factor.Well, fine by me, the best thing that can happen to Scorpion is a complete revamp anyways. I just don't agree with the direction you wish to take him. The only thing I like about Scorpion is that he is the only character in the MK universe that's an actual ninja. Instead of taking that away from him, I'd much rather turn him back to his roots, remove the whole hellspawn factor and make him an actual REAL ninja once more.

With Scorpion i don't think anyone could really change what he IS but certainly end the SubZ rivalry and focus on something else for him to do.
Almost certainly Scorp and Sub will return as always being the 'poster boys' for MK.
I feel Li Mei should definitely return. A young, noble yet naive warrior would be perfect to fill the roles missing from the forces of light since most were killed. I really liked her playstyle too, so i do have bias, but hey, it's just what i want.

She would need an entirely new approach to the series then. In the original timeline, she and her village were enslaved by the Deadly Alliance to build the temple in which the Soulnado and the Dragon King's army were held, and in an attempt to gain freedom, she joined the fake tournament held by the Deadly Alliance...
... But since the Deadly Alliance has no hope to be formed in the current timeline, as Shang Tsung is dead and his power and soul is fused with Sindel. Should his soul have been seperated from Sindel, we have yet to see anything about him. And this means Li Mei's original approach is forfeit.

I'm not sure having Nitara back would be a good idea. I mean we already have Skarlet for a blood user.
I do wish Skarlet, Rain & Kenshi are playable and no longer DLCs.

Here's the characters I hope will return, and a short explanation to why and how they fit in:
SAREENA
FUJIN

How would you revamp their movelists like Kenshi's?

Avoiding any debate over who's a ninja and who's not, my point isn't to take that one redeeming factor away from him. Far from it.
The point is to give him a new name, look and play style (keeping only his spear) and actually giving the character something positive before taking that away, putting him back to what he was (human or hellspawn), giving him his look that everyone knows again, all within one game, with the main goal of setting his story on a new path.
Sorry for going off topic here though.

I am all for that, but you seem to want for him to go one way where I would rather go another way. But at least we agree that something should be done about him. ^^

You make it sound like they need to be revamped. The thing with Kenshi was that he and Ermac shared alot of moves. NRS gave Ermac some of Kenshi's moves, because they wanted to expand on his moveset and quite frankly, I think the telekinetic moves fit Ermac better. That's his thing. And I am glad that they revamped Kenshi's moveset to something alot more fitting a swordsman like him, but keeping his powers within the same style as Ermac's, them being of the mental sort.
True, some of the characters on my list could use a bit of work on their movelists. For example, Tanya and Nitara share the same flip kick, and as mentioned, Nitara and Skarlet are both hemomancers (blood magic users). But like Kenshi and Ermac, as long their movesets are different from one another, I see no problem with it.
