For some reason I have this feeling in my gut that Kitana is not going to be alive at the end of story mode & I don't know why.

I think the Kitana we've been shown since January is an alt costume (like how Tyler Lansdown said that some of the costumes we're seeing are alts in one of the streams).

I think she might be wholly on the side of Quan Chi through the entire story of MKX. I kind of got the feeling that the scene where her and Sindel were fighting Cassie and Kung Jin beneath a blood red sky was near the end of story mode.

Although that would make me wonder what the hell really happened to Jade. How can a chick who is dead herself mourn someone? confused

I've been wondering the same. Just sent a question to NRS for the next Kombat Kast trying to get a clue if Kitana is playable at all in the story (I know they won't give a straight answer).

Looking back at the MK9 promo campaign Mileena got a lot of attention: trailers, demos and so on, but she was a supporting nonplayable character. Maybe they never show before the game's release too much of those characters who play a significant role in the story? Kitana has got quite a lot of attention so far: a trailer along with Kung Lao, Kombat Kast 3, a personal trailer, Variation Pictures. Maybe it does mean that we'll briefly see her in one short scene?

I do hope I'm completely wrong about that.

Before the story trailer I had been thinking she would be resurrected during the war against Shinnok and then she'd be seeking vengeance and trying to kill Quan Chi (just like Mystique did in Days of Future Past).

I don't feel there's anything "different" in Kitana.

Her portrayal, especially in the new timeline, is that of a deep-down benevolent, but outwardly self-righteous royalty. She very often showed herself to be a bit cynical and standoffish, even snobbish. I saw her intro with Cassie, and didn't even blink: "Yup, that sounds like something she'd say to someone like Cassie."

I like this and I hope it stays that way. I'd be very bummed to see "Princess" Kitana again, with her irritatingly unbreakable altruism; a better-looking Liu Kang, in most ways. We don't need cookie-cutter heroes, and we don't need Peach in Blue getting kidnapped or mediating failed truces. I like her much better as a good guy with a darkly arrogant streak.

Trust me, she'll insult everyone in that roster, especially now that her best friend and would-be boyfriend AND her lifelong status have been taken from her. The bitch is mad. Suits her better.

I feel Kitana is not going to be available for most of the story until probably the last arc or so. She'll get freed by Cassie's crew then help in defeating Quan Chi.

I didn't feel like her portrayal in the new timeline is really any different from the old one in any way. She had like a couple moments of tenderness in both but that was about it.

I liked Kitana's arrogance in the first part of MK9. She was Shao Kahn's daughter and she'll slice your head in half. It would have been really nice of NRS to not retcon her backstory with Mileena so we could have actually seen what their relationship was like.

Maybe as Raiden sucks Shinnok into the Amulet she gets freed and then later on when Mileena unleashes the Amulet's power she frees Shinnok and thus Kitana becomes 'controlled' again. Could that be why she's fighting Kung Jin in that story mode trailer looking possessed in the red/bloody environment (looks like near the end of the story mode)?

But the Mournful variation and Jade remain a mystery (especially since Sindel is seen in that red/bloody scene along with Kitana, so apparently she's back too near the end of the story, so what on Earth happened to Jade)... Really looking forward to find out what the hell happened. I don't think we'll get a Kitana chapter this time though.

I'm pretty sure 10,000 is the Earthrealm equivalent of 25-ish.

I don't think there is a canon conversion for Outworld/Edenia years to Earthrealm years. That is just how I have always interpreted it. I have always seen Kitana as a teenager or maybe early 20s.

I kind of agree that I see Kitana around 25ish.
Personally, I always thought 1 Edenian year= 400 Earthrrealm years. I asked thought that time was different in each realm, some go much faster in time than others.
So maybe Kitana is actually 25ish years old in Edenian years, but due to time differences she's 10,000 years old in Earthrrealm years.

Hey dude!

At first we weren't sure if that possessed woman fighting beside Sindel was Kitana, Mileena (since she's wearing purple) or someone else. But after a closer inspection, we can see that it is actually one of Kitana's alternates based on the concept art revealed during the live stream. Could that outfit been assigned to a different character such as Mileena? Perhaps. But just for the sake of trying to figure out Kitana's role in MKX, lets assume it is Kitana.

Okay so in that scene we see revenant Sindel & Kitana fighting Cassie & Kung Jin. That being said, we know that Kitana & Sindel were not freed after the Netherrealm War. Maybe the Princess was freed and recaptured by Quan Chi? Perhaps, but lets assume Kitana was not freed at all.

My question is, how do we know that that scene (Sindel/Kitana vs Cassie/Kung Jin) takes place towards the end of the story mode for MKX? Is it because Cassie is all grown up and we know that MKX will focus on 3 different time periods, this being the final time period?

Ed Boon said that MKX will focus on different time periods, so we will see a lot of time period skipping. However, Ed also confirmed that MKX will focus mainly on the 25 years after MK9 story arc. That being said, Kitana's liberation might occur halfway into the story mode because MKX will mainly focus on this time period (25 years after MK9).

My point is that just because Kitana is fighting against the new generation of heroes does not mean that this will take place towards the end of MKX. It could take place way sooner than we think, which would give enough time to Kitana to make things right.

I'm also very confident that Kitana will get a chapter in MKX story mode because they have a lot of story telling to do with Kitana. MKX is supposed to have an epic, longer and more detailed story mode than any previous MK game. MK9 gave almost every character their own chapter, so why not MKX? Another factor to consider is the smaller roster MKX has compared to MK9 which also increases the odds of Kitana having her own chapter.

Have they even confirmed that we will have chapters in MKX? I could've sworn I read that they will skip around with characters with no particular chapter order ala MK9 style, in MKX story mode.

So many questions! So much speculation! Can't wait to get the bottom of this!

Guess what guys, I got some insider info via a private messagetongue

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
She does indeed get freed and revived but late in story mode. However my source also stated that most playable characters will have a chapter in story mode, so I hope Kitana gets one as well. If not than hopefully MK11 will cast her as the main protagonist

When you find the right people to ask and be persistent, you will be rewarded with a lot of great information.
thank god ... maybe she'll be the one who defeats Mileena ... and restore Outworld once and for all ... who knows ... Mileena didn't end up being killed by Kotal Kahn, I'm sure of it ...
