Kitana, Mileena and Jade - a debate about their inclusion in MKX.

Mileena: Will probably be in the game since she survived MK9.
Kitana: Popular, and dead doesn't mean 'out of the series', she can also benefit story mode with her rivalry with Mileena.
Jade: Although she isn't as popular as Kitana or Mileena, she might be DLC too. You never know.

I am a bit surprised by all the people storming Boon's twitter demanding Kitana but very few have mentioned anything about Mileena. I know Kitana is the most popular but I thought in the past ten years since Deception Mileena had managed to sneak that title away from her, or at least it would be neck and neck. Honestly, I want Mileena in this game. For me personally, it just wouldn't feel like MK without Mileena.
That said, I think Mileena has a high chance of returning simply because I don't see NRS just leaving her character out in the cold, especially considering the dominating presence she had in the MK9 marketing. Kitana will probably make it in right along beside her, If not, she'll definitely be among the first DLC warriors released next summer.

IMO, this twitter situation reflects the fear of Kitana ́s fans because they know she is dead. From my point of view, Mileena's inclusion is almost a given fact. I think an enormous majority EXPECT Mileena to return in MKX; in other side, Kitana's chance for a major return (because she is dead) are fewer than Mileena, or at least her fans feels in that way. And all the twitter cry reflects it. Just IMO

That's a good point. Didn't think of that.
Eh, Kitana fans have always been persistent on social media. Just look at the Kitana fans here, myself included. I don't think they're being anymore vigilant right now then they've ever been it's just that the stakes are a bit higher for returning characters so more people are paying attention. Power of suggestion and all of that.

I wonder if Kitana's fanbase would be satisfied with Kitana returning, but being a background character, as in not having an important role at all. I mean, she could return as Quan Chi's slave and possibly stay like that all the way through the game's story mode, yet still be playable.
As a Jade fan, I'd be happy just to have her be playable. Of course I'd LOVE if NRS build on her character and gave her some plot importance, but it is not something I would demand, knowing it might never actually happen.

I agree with you, I'd be more than happy just to have Jade playable. Anything else is a bonus! It'd be amazing to see her in a fully fledged story mode without her motivation for fighting being to do with Kitana, but as you said, doubtful it will ever happen.

That could happen, after all she may be a DLC character for we all know, with no role in story mode. I think she's proven to be worthwile of being at least sold via DLC.
As much as I'd love Mileena to return, her story significance is wrapped up in her hate-on for her sister (who is dead) and being a minion of Shao Kahn (who is dead). So while SHE might have survived the events of MK9, most of her plot significance did not.
It's cool though, I'm sure there'll be another "femme fatale" character for me to main.

By the MKD both Kitana and Kahn were dead and Mileena was one of the core characters of the story. So, death of her supporting cast doesn't mean a thing. NRS can always create a new supporting cast for her.
Besides, Baraka is still around.

Unfortunately her story still revolved around impersonating Kitana. But yeah the one good thing about Mileena in MK9 is her story is now almost completely removed from Kitana, they just need to move her in a new interesting direction instead of her just struggling to get power and then ending up someone's minion. She didn't have very much to do in MKD or MKA and Edenia isn't separate from Outworld like before so I imagine that Kitana would have more of a supporting role this time. I was actually disappointed that Kitana wasn't the subboss of MKD. I mean, she was raised from the dead and turned into Onaga's personal bodyguard, yet we never got to fight her. Didn't make much sense making her his bodyguard then. :/

The sub-bosses usually have some kind of gimmick and Kitana didn't really have one. They would've had to make her a monster or something. Although, if the story had played out differently it would've been cool to see Kitana and Mileena as the sub-boss instead of Noob and Smoke. We've never really seen them work together before.I was actually disappointed that Kitana wasn't the subboss of MKD. Mileena fans have always been persistent (and demanding) on social media too (I am the creator of the first Mileena's fan page of Facebook). We really want her inclusion in this MK. A big part of MK community (Mileena's fans, sympathizers and non-fans) believe she deserves a spot in this game, almost a given fact. I observe a hysteria status praying for Kitana's reveal (well, TBH, from some Mileena's fans too). And I don't think Kitana's fans are more loyal, demanding, persistent, etc, than Mileena's; in other words: I don't think Kitana's fans are more supporting than Mileena's. They are both communities very strong and supporting of both of them. The sibling rivalry between both character's fans is ficticious.

There were a number of things I didn't like about the three of them. I do think that Mileena is the most likely to return since she's alive and can play a part in the Outworld story. It wouldn't surprise me if Jade gets pushed to the side, which is unfortunate since MK 2011 didn't really know what to do with most of the characters.

They were fodder for the most part, save perhaps MKDA-D. This is the result of character duplication. Half of the MK ninja male/female roster is basically filler, no matter how or how much background you castruct for them.
And this is why the good aprt of the characters languish in the context/-less world of MK. Noob Saibot had basically nothing beyond - > shadow dude. Well, untill they revealed him to be Bi Han, that character existed only as filler.
