Is Mortal Kombat getting too evil? MKX is brutal!
You know I wondered to myself back in the Deadly Alliance days, "If Boon and Co continue to give fans exactly what they asked for will these fan's continue to bitch about getting what they asked for." Apparently so, sorry Netherrealm.

Actually it does sound odd when I read it again lmao

The game's atmosphere and dark approach is fine. It balances between beayty and the 18 rating.

That's because you can't please everyone. There are fans who can't let go of their old favorites and want MK1-3 characters over and over, not accepting change. And there are those who welcome new characters and are ready for the franchise to move on.
So far they've given us mostly MK1 characters (with the exception of Quan Chi but we all knew he was gonna be in) and some people loved it but there are others who aren't particularly fond of them. So of course you are gonna please some, your are gonna disappoint some. Happens with every game.
It's still too early to complain though, I'll give you that. I'm waiting for the game to come out before I complain about my favs not making it :P

This is the MK. I've been waiting for. It's dark, gritty and f*cking down-right sadistically grusome!
So can't wait to see Chi's full fatality.....
So can't wait to see Chi's full fatality.....
Too much gore?! No way, I want more!!!
I hate the other figthing games that have no gore at all, it's a big fat lie!!
If you beat up someone there will be blood, face reality, do not hide behind flashes and signs... MK is the real deal, it always has been (more or less).
If you are scared, play street figther or tekken... Or DOA if you wanna jerk off.

This fatality is sadistically creative, but I don't feel it's anymore evil than many other fatalities we've already seen. The Deadpool stage fatality in MK9 was brutal.
Sony would probably think it too evil to be done on Kratos, though. Or rather, too degrading.

Yes too much evil and violence after 10 mortal kombats its time for these conflicts to be resolved through peaceful diplomatic means where characters talk out there problems without having to resort to violent combat. Rather then fatalities and the classic "finish him" you could have "negotiate" and if you pull off the negotiations properly instead of fatality you could have negotiated.

it seems you asked a hard question lol.
i played MK2 in the arcades and to me its 1 of my favorite next to MK9 in terms of graphics and dark style. MK2 was a perfect blend of elements that made it the succes it was and to some still is. in certain aspects even better than the latest MK imo.
when i was young blood and gore was 1 one of the reasons i played MK. but that soon was lost to me when i was introduced to the ralms and characters of MK.
MKX feels very horror / gothic dark. i prefer MK2 / MK:SZ mythologies dark. sorry for my english its not so good

Am I in the wrong place?
I thought MK was supposed to be brutal.
And I love the dark and gritty aspect of this game so far like it's supposed to be.

You sound like there is no middle. saying > "There are fans who can't let go of their old favorites and want MK1-3 characters over and over, not accepting change. And there are those who welcome new characters and are ready for the franchise to move on"
this perspective is limited and flat, sorry if youre not. but if i love a franchize bc certain elements that made me love that franchize it doesnt mean that i have to agree with every single change they make. especially if the team has changed that much... this limited view on thing always leads to the same type of discussions unfortunatly. nothing personal but if you really see it like that i dont agree.
Not more gore. More oomph.
Would be a common mistake to dilute the show by simply going over the top until it moves to self-parody and then becomes masturbatory shite.
Though I will bet my ass that the internet is going to have a field day with Quan Chi's fatality performed on females.

It would be, if it wasn't for the silliest, most poorly-written/acted cutscenes I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. The music and stages were grim, yes, but those cutscenes injected enough camp into the game to make the entire rest of the series blush.

This is seriously the most disturbing game I've ever seen and I think that's awesome! MK9 was saved with all the colorful backgrounds and palletes, but MKX is so damn dark and gruesome. I'm really getting an MK4 vibe from it but on a whole other level.

Hm... it doesn't matter how brutal a fatality or a game is. It's just a game for me. Only fiction, nothing real. This Point of view changes if i see a movie with real actors... i cringed and felt sick by the death of Oberyn Martell in Game Of Thrones. But in a game it doesn't bother me :)

Well said. This divide in the fanbase seemed to have become even more apparent after MK9. NRS will just have to stick to their guns AFTER MKX and continue to have the series go down this new path rather than chicken out and make MK11 yet another "nostalgia trip".

I am worried about the brutal nature of it not because I am against it just the rating of the game. I mean if they focus so much on the realistic nature and human anatomy wouldnt this contribute the ESRB and other rating systems on the game? I hope not but still hold my doubts concerning this. Honestly, I like the more darker side of it but maybe its just me. I don't think its too extreme i think its almost just right.

Too brutal? Not yet. I mean it certainly could be if they wanted to go that extra mile. These are some of the most vicious fatalities we've ever seen, but that happens with every MK game as the gore tech improves. They now where the line is and they don't cross it. Plus the inevitable humor will deflate that notion of too brutal.
As for the too dark question, nope. Seems where were it should be if you ask me.

the way this game is going with the darkness and characters fatalities.
I couldn't see this game without some characters- we've seen Kano and now Quan Chi so now I'm hoping for Baraka and Havik
this would really complete the roster for me
i can imagine some of Baraka's fatalities already
