Saying that MKX is getting to evil or brutal is like saying that porn is getting too nasty and perverted.
It's supposed to be in MKX's natural universe to be bold, brutal, sadistic, and evil. I mean, subzero's or scorpion's fatalities from the first MK weren't bad enough? It was subzero's head rip fatality that caused so much controversy, and eventually inspired the creation of the ESRB. The first MK established this gory nature, announcing to the gaming community that it was going to be a bloody, brutal, and sadistic game and it was proud of it. Ever since, the fatalities have become an expected and necessary part of this game.
and speaking of the first MK, i find it very interesting how MK 9, which was actually a sort of retelling and collective reboot of MK1-3, was used as the modern MK1, and now MKX is doing what MK2 did to MK1, taking everything to the next level.
I agree with all of the responses to this topic, and it's funny how everybody is thinking the same thing: MKX is what Mortal Kombat has always been aiming to be, and now we are finally getting the true nature of the game.

I'm all for the darker/grittier tone. It wasn't until I replayed MK9 last month that made me appreciate how much darker MK X is looking thus far. Humor will still have it's place in the MK universe, but I'm loving literally everything I'm seeing tone wise from MK X.

This is seriously the most disturbing game I've ever seen and I think that's awesome! MK9 was saved with all the colorful backgrounds and palletes, but MKX is so damn dark and gruesome. I'm really getting an MK4 vibe from it but on a whole other level.
Quan Chi's fatality is the first fatality ever in MK's history to make me feel...uncomfortable. It was just so EVIL. I think it was the fact that he was making Kano do it, almost like he was killing himself I guess. I don't know, but it definitely fits the dark and eerie tone that MKX is going for. In my opinion, it is the best and most sinister finisher so far, and we haven't even seen the whole fatality!
Wasn't this problem brought up during 2011?
Yeah, I'm liking the direction they're going, brings back the 90s memories of when they were constantly talked about on the news for being too violent and such.
If this is truly a problem with people, then obviously this is not the kind of game for you.

Yeah, real big fucking deal.

Stole the words right out of my mouth. It's MK, it's been this way more often then not. With the fidelity of modern technology however there is less that is left to the imagination. Even IGN was posting something about MK becoming to gory. Now go back and play MK:DA and perform Quan Chi's fatality. Less Giraffes more gibs.

The new direction of the game is what I have always wanted for MK. I am lucky that it matured as I matured.

The darker and more evil, the better.
However, some of the things are just comical, like Cassie's X-Ray with the popping testicles. That's just hilarious! XD

Yeah, as much as I love that game and besides the fact it probably has the best gameplay of the franchise, the best "atmosphere" belongs to either MKD or MK4, in my opinion.

Yup i agree with you on both of those and its why they are two of my favorites. Deception had humor in it but overall it was a dark game and i loved it. I felt like that was missing from mk9 so i cant wait for Mkx

It's only a few seconds but it seems Quan Chi puts them in trace and forces them to walk towards a floating blade. They continue walking until the blade is being forced into their mouth.....and that's where it cuts off.
So hopefully we will get the whole fatality soon.
Honestly I think people are overreacting about his fatality. It's a cool concept and it's a good idea for a fatality but as far as violence goes I've seen way way worse. Even in MK. It's just a sword in his mouth as of right now, nothing over the top.

It will probably do something over the top right after the opponent sucks the sword, but the little part of the Fatality we've seen, you are absolutely right.

No, I actually like it that way.
I miss the darkness of the original 3 games!

Um..
The answer is no. Darker is always better. Time to leave the brightly colored power ranger-esque spandexes behind and enter the modern world.
BRING ON THE DARKNESS!

I hope it doesn't go too over the top. It can sometimes transform something perfectly cruel into something unimpressive. Just like the leg beat down in MK9, that head explosion was just unnecessary.

Let it get too evil for people to handle, I trust Cassie will lighten up the mood when she is in the limelight. She will always be around to poke fun at any dire and dreaded upcoming apocalypse. As the first child born from the famous Johnny & Sonya, she has an ego that is larger than life and she is not about to let death hamper her in your face lifestyle.

I have yet to see anything that makes me cringe. Then again, I'm rather jaded (LOLPUN!!!) when it comes to stuff like that. E.g. I hear people say that Cassie's X-Ray or Scorpion's Fatality makes them cringe... it hasn't affected me yet. I just find them hilarious. XD

How long has the community been saying MK needs to be darker and more gritty? Quite awhile. Now that we got it, it's becoming questionable? This is the game most have wanted, myself included. I know I stumbled upon my own dislike with the newer characters we've seen. But they're slowly growing on me now.
After seeing this trailer it brought back the evil and darkness it's been lacking since mk4-da. I'm very happy with the game. I have no complaints. I've learn to embrace this game and I love, love, love it.
If quan chi looks this good. I have no doubts at all about shinnok. He's gonna be out of this world incredible and I'm fucking stoaked and max hype for his arrival. I sit anxiously for his reveal as I did Martian Manhunter in IGAU.

I seem to recall that there was a problem like this back with MK9... People wanting something, MK9 brought it, but then people were second-guessing it... I can't remember what it was though. Was it gore?

It started after armageddon. It was right around the time of MKvsDCU people on the forums were mentioning how they wanted the Next MK (before we knew it was mkvsdcu) to be dark and gritty. More blood darker fatalities, music, characters. Those who wanted that got that with mkx.

There's honestly no telling...
It's seemed every time you turned around there was something else NRS "fucked up".
Too evil? NOT EVIL ENOUGH! Quan Chi should have them rip open their own rib cage after they eat that sword!
I always wanted someone to have a forced hara-kiri like fatality. Makes sense that it ended up being him.
I'm glad they realize when it comes to fatalities that it's not always about WHAT happens to the victim but rather HOW it happens to them.
If he just took a sword and shoved it in his mouth it really wouldn't be that big of a deal.
As weird as it sounds, I wouldn't mind seeing fatalities that include fear, torture, or even one that has the victim begging to die.
